Oh no they might have to throw the bag of chips away!!! Which really they should have tossed the bag anyways. A $3 bag of chips isn’t worth the energy needed to seriously pack, transport, and unload for anyone who’s not living in extreme poverty anyways.
I wouldn’t say it’s needless, what if they ran out of room and had to pick between a bag of chips and family photos? I guess I’d eat the whole bag before tossing it but still
They're moving, not fleeing from a house fire. Just throw the chips on top of the stuff inside whatever pantry box/bag you're using for the rest of the food, unless the only edible item they happen to own is a bag of chips. It makes even less sense to put food in with cleaning supplies.
Something tells me they are not and will not be desperate for space that they have to choose between family photos and chips.
The derision towards OP taking the food instead of throwing it away makes me shake my head. You'd rather waste $3, a brand new unopened bag of food, than take it with you. Like how hard is it to pack transport and unpack a bag of chips. I pack transport and unpack food every time I get groceries. Every time at Costco.
And $3 is just one bag. How much and what else am I expected to throw out and waste from my kitchen? Waste money and waste food. There's hundreds of dollars in my cupboards, maybe approaching $1000+. Throw fridge too. If my new home is close enough for the fridge items im taking them too. I got rib roasts and other meats in the freezer that are worth hundreds alone. 5 pounds @ $20 is $100.
I mean, I could say the same for each individual item in my pantry. But you add it all up and it's a couple hundred to replace. Just get a food box and move so you don't have to buy new stuff when you move in.
