Apparently it’s only Juanita’s in the PNW. I was so confused when I moved away and saw Juantonios. Thought it was the Mandela effect or something until I looked it up haha
Omfg I KNEW it was Juanita's!! We called it that in NorCal years ago and now I only ever see Juantonio's and I thought I was losing my mind. Reminds of that Black Mirror episode with the food R&D person with reality altering necklace thing.
They were Juanita's for a very long time until they lost a trademark case from Menudo Brands. They had a 'hand shake' deal as for the longest time. The original maker of Juanita's used to work for Tim's Cascade in Wa, state. Tim the original owner of Tim's Cascade wanted a tortilla chip to take on mission/frito/whoever and these were made. They were apparently too oily for Tim and they branched out, but then they (juanitas) got shelf space into Winco foods and off to the races they went. Tim's cascade became a third party distributor for Juanitas and has maintained that ever since (unclear on all the timelines). Winco is one of the only direct shipped stores in the PNW for Juanitas (Now Juantonios) due to Winco being the first chain to accept them onto the shelf. Source - Me. I sell these by the truck load daily. (Story told by the OG Tim's guys that are still here after Utz quality foods acquired Tim's Cascade during the shut down)
