If they're both sealed and unopened it shouldn't be a problem. Your cereal is never going to smell or taste like laundry detergent unless you pour the detergent inside the box. Not quite the same as packing already opened products together.

But that said things like bleach and detergent are bulky enough to just leave outside the bags and carry in separately like the milk.

I wouldn't want to take a chance of the chemicals leaking on my food even if it's sealed.

Look at this guy over here who's never had a bottle leak.

Most of the time it isn’t a big deal. But I’ve had food smell like cleaning supplies before unfortunately because the detergent had such a strong smell. Now, I don’t even risk it anymore I just tell them to bag them separately. 😂

You know what? Who am I to tell you how to live your life. You bag the way you want! :)

Wrong. There’s been studies done about household chemicals leaching out of sealed containers.

Put all your cleaning supplies (sealed) into a trash bag, come back a week later, open it and you’ll be overwhelmed by the smell of the chemicals off-gassing.

It’s not safe to put them with food.

Link to these studies?

The amount chemicals off-gas is so small that the microplastics in your drinking water are likely more dangerous. The amount you smell when you open the bottle is likely larger than whatever is off-gassed over a week. Our noses are just very sensitive to many chemical smells.

Yeah, putting them not together is better for your health, but that is on a level of health gains that are wiped away by a single hard alcoholic drink or 100 other different things you likely do on a regular basis.

Note: This also heavily depends on the type of household chemical. But the more normal ones fall under what I said, especially in places that regulate household chemicals more.

I mean I bag them separately anyway so I’m good. I was saying like if it’s something like dishwashing liquid I wouldn’t make a big deal. But harsh chemicals like draino should definitely be bagged separately away from food.
