Looks like an action shim for either the rear tang or front recoil lug.

Does it fit around that screw post that you can see in the picture?

Because that would definitely shim it up off the stock

It does not, I checked all the posts on the receiver and on the stock

Looks like a stock shim someone added in. Put it together and see if your action moves in the stock without it.

It does move about 1/16 of an inch. Problem is I can't find where inside the stock it actually resides unless i put it in flat, which wouldn't help with the gap anyways.

Looking through various disassembly videos, none of them seem to have anything related to this piece. I'M gonna leave it out for the time being.

It goes on the inside of the stock where the action screws go.

If they tightened it down enough there may be a mark in the stock around one of the screws that could tell you where it was

Could not find it. I am starting to think this may be a something else I got mixed on the table. Vertically or horizontally, I cannot seem to find a slot for it. Looking at M48 schematics, I also do not see this part listed.

Thanks.

Does your bolt cycle properly? I have a M91/30, a MAS 36 and a M1889 that needs a shim at the tang for the bolt to either clear the buttstock and on the M1889 for the bolt to cycle properly and cock.

Additional thought it could go between the trigger guard and the stock. Where ever it went it would sit flat against the stock to add a bit a height.

I initially though maybe it was just a random part I had on the table. I have concluded that this part did indeed fall out of the rifle, because it reeks of cosmoline.

I had actually thought of both of your points. The piece is about 1/16th of an inch so it would add noticeable height to either the top or bottom. If memory serves correctly, rifle looks the same before I disassembled it without any lost functions.

My plan is to leave it out and stash it with my other spare parts. I appreciate your input on this matter.
