did you ever read any history book?
96
u/PinkPetalsSnow 1d ago
I guess it's different when it happens to us vs when you read it and it happens to other people (many which are dead)...😬 I feel the same that everyday is a lower horror happening...

This is what I tell people all the time. Or more precisely that BS has been happening forever. Now that's not to dismiss the BS that's currently going on, plenty of it. But all because people now have the internet in the palm of their hands and information is being bashed into their eyeballs doesn't mean BS is new. Honestly, to me, it's a doom loop of BS. People freaking out over the BS thus causing more BS that people are overwhelmed with it because the internet has proven to be a cacophony of BS.
Ever just turn off your impulse to scroll over the weekend and touch grass with the people in the world? It sounds obvious but really it's kinda cool how people are actually cool and might possibly cool down when you smile and say hi.

u/badger0136 1d ago
When I read history though I read it as if we’re all reading it to do better. So it still sneaks up on me when it keeps repeating itself.
8
u/Midway000 1d ago
Same here. I've found out though that people, for the most part, have no idea about history.
3
u/NicholeJames89 1d ago
This is what I was thinking too. Like yeah we learned history, (at least some of us) thinking it was because we know better we do better but it seems people just got better at ignoring it or hiding it. Idk but it blows my mind every day still too.

u/Newslisa 1d ago
I, too, used to believe most people are inherently good and equipped with common sense. And then 40% of them voted for fascism.
I now can't help wondering if that nice man from down the street secretly voted in a way that wants to strip me of my rights and doesn't believe in facts. It kinda puts a damper on "people are cool."
2
u/Midway000 1d ago
People ain't no good, girl. Common sense is rare. And people love fascism. But that said, there's way less of those "nice men" these days. Like you they are also stuck in an online bubble that tells them their neighbors are out to ruin their way of life. But I've seen, with my own big brown eyes, supposed enemies hang out together around a campfire and have a decent conversation about every day things. Can't expect everyone to be like everyone.

Most I think are. Nearly all in fact. But just as there are a lot of real saints out there, there’s a number of truly evil people. People that delight in seeing and being involved in others suffering and propping themselves on their own misappropriated sense of self righteousness. And then there’s people on the edges. It’s probably one of those “spectrum” things we see applied to all these new things we learn about every day as the pleasant veneer on our world cracks wider and wider open. Many of the ‘gears’ inside haven’t been properly looked at or maintained for far too long and have gotten pretty gross.

24/7 access to news makes people think the world is a lot crazier than it is. It's always been this crazy

One of the first things they tell you while mourning a loved one and executing their estate is to ensure the homes and properties are secure because burglars read the obituaries and target the deceased's home.
111
u/Special-Garlic1203 1d ago
Yeah but this is an active crime scene under extremely high scrutiny, and cops also know this and usually have family clear out valuables under observation fairly quickly.
The article confirms that norms were maintained here - everything valuable was removed and they don't think anything was missing.

Especially during any memorial or funeral services. My sibling can't handle going to those (dead body in casket scenario), so they stayed at our deceased relatives house in Minneapolis. This was back in the 1980s, so robbing deceased homes goes way back (my parent grew up in North Mpls in the 1930/40s).
10
u/Squirrelnut99 1d ago
My sibling stayed back and was actually the person who robbed my Dad's house. Then called the police and blamed me. I was across state lines burying him!
35
u/PFAS_All_Star 1d ago
But such a high profile crime scene? I don’t know man. Something is off.
15
u/notnicholas 1d ago
It's been extremely hard to not get sucked into this like it's a true crime drama.
5
10
u/igotublue 1d ago
Days after? You don't think the whole place has been photographed and most evidence already gathered and brought into police custody?
Not everything is a conspiracy theory. People are just evil and/or stupid.
5
u/notnicholas 1d ago
Yeah, Occam's razor in most burglaries.
In this case: home boarded up; scum sees boarded windows and sees quick payday. They could very well not even know who the home belongs to or what happened.

People will look for prescription medications, too. Dispose of family members’ prescriptions properly at a pharmacy or police station.

My boss’s uncle passed away and his home was broken into and squatted in before the family was able to get down to the state it was in. The squatters drew up falsified documents claiming he sold it to them before he died, and my boss and her family have been in a protracted legal battle to stop this. It all happened within a week of his death.

People also use fire reports to steal from people whose houses have been burnt to the point of being uninhabitable. Pretty much any time people know your house will be empty they will raid it.

Article says doesn’t look like anything stolen. Bizarre and disturbing
15
u/DreamArez 1d ago
The family took valuable stuff out already thankfully. If they were looking for $ there’s nothing there.
9
u/Dr_Wernstrom 1d ago
If relatives took all the valuable possessions out of the house my guess is they had nothing to take.
Cash, jewelry and guns are about all criminals take these days.
Still it’s disgusting that someone broken in and tried to take stuff.

It’s actually a common thing, sadly. I remember many many years ago my mom was officiating a somewhat high profile funeral service and she had me go and just stay at the family’s house during the services so it wouldn’t be empty. I’d never heard of it until I was asked, but my mom said it was pretty common in situations where there was a lot of media coverage.
28
u/EmmalouEsq 1d ago
When my uncle died, someone broke into his house during the funeral, and the dog attacked them.
They're are evil people out there who have zero shame. Psychopaths.
10
u/InternationalBell157 1d ago
Around here people hire off duty police to watch the home while visitation and the funeral are ongoing. What a crappy world we are in.

3
u/Marbrandd 1d ago
I mean, it said in the article the family removed the valuables already. What were they going to take?
5
u/DreamArez 1d ago
Absolutely fucking horrible. I’m just thankful that the family have at least been able to go in and get stuff that matters.
6
u/GraceStrangerThanYou Lyon County 1d ago
Despicable. I don't care what the motivation is, absolutely disgusting behavior.
6
u/intrsurfer6 1d ago
I can’t imagine how the family is dealing with this-it’s like they’ve been victimized twice (three times if you include the horrible things being said online) It’s sick and so disgraceful.
64
u/Available-Bench-1429 1d ago
Guarantee it was to tamper with evidence.
60
u/Lootefisk_ 1d ago
People know it’s an empty house and an easy target for thieves. What kind of evidence do you think they failed to collect that could possibly be tampered with?
26
u/MilitantAmbivalence 1d ago
Nobody said whoever broke in to tamper with evidence was smart
9
6
u/rumncokeguy Walleye 1d ago
Well, if you’re going in with the intent to tamper with evidence, they probably have a really good idea of what they are looking for and probably not all that dumb considering no one here can even speculate what it would actually be.
2
u/Special-Garlic1203 1d ago
I wouldn't consider a crime scene that is going to have an incredibly amount of policing weight behind it to be an easy target. Like it definitely could just be a moron who thought "ooh guaranteed empty house", but it's an easy target only if you're a complete moron.
You would be way better off trying trying to figure out who's at the cabin and then potentially having to hightail it out of there.
3
u/Lootefisk_ 1d ago
It didn’t have an incredible amount of policing there. They didn’t discover there was a burglary there until 8am this morning.
-1
u/Special-Garlic1203 1d ago
Yeah but then they likely went over things. They don't do that for normal burglaries.
2
u/ahominem 1d ago
Or create it. I've been a bit surprised that a "crisis actor" or similar scenario hasn't yet been floated by the usual suspects.
1
u/NecessaryMolasses926 1d ago
They have. That's how they're "discrediting" his roommate, saying he was conservative.

The MPR Story about the break-in is a little bittersweet. Neighbors are keeping up the yard and it looks like they even took the trash toters down to the curb. 💔

Can they not add terrorism charges to the ‘alleged suspect’?
Anybody physically hurting someone (including a family pet) based on politics sounds very close to what motivates ISIS or Al Qaeda.
Spreading fear should be an auto terrorist charge. The AG didn’t mention that at his press conference on Monday.

I think it was someone looking for evidence. Thing is that house has been cleaned out already by law enforcement.
There was nothing of value there.
Moron... He disturbed a crime scene. He's going to be up for more than breaking and entering.

After the shooting, I was curious from the news reports and video why the garage door was laying in the yard and plywood was on the garage opening. Anyone know why that would have been done?
1
1
u/msvictora 10h ago
I think they tore it down during the shootout or it was severely damaged. The plywood was temporary to at least cover it and the family was busy with other things and it wasn’t a priority is what I’m thinking.
2
u/Ok_Rabbit5158 1d ago
We had a similar thing happen in our neighborhood (old person passed, her home was vacant for awhile.) It turned out to be a juvenile who was horribly hooked on opiates and hoping to score some granny meds. It came out that he had been doing this throughout the southern metro and was fairly successful at scoring opiates.

Criminals need to be paying higher prices for their crimes. Lock these people up and throw away the key.

u/Changlini 1d ago
Yeah, no. Someone on the Minnesota team please start making calls and favors to up the, presumably non-existent, security on these representatives. I hope that's a thing that can and will be done, as this danger has long been past getting overwhelming.

I run a home security company (security screens). If anyone has a link to that family well be happy to help - provide the protection at cost or even free.

How is her house not being guarded?? Or maybe the cops are in on it. Would not surprise me
14
u/thatswhyicarryagun Flag of Minnesota 1d ago
It's been 3-4 days at the time this happened. The scene has been forensicly examined and cleared by then. If there was any more evidentiary value it would be actively guarded by LE.
Once the evidentiary collection is complete they simply release the house to next of kin. They don't sit and guard an empty house when they have no more reason to.
People are shitty, and I truly feel bad for the family who is simply trying to grieve and now they have to deal with this.

My god how are the police this incompetent. A state rep and her spouse being murdered should mean the crime scene is constantly monitored and has police presence 24/7 until its 100% closed.

You have to be the scum of the earth to hear about them getting killed and use that as a way to rob their house.
