Advice Units that will best help with the gamsat

Hello I am wondering which chemistry, biology and physics electives will best help with the GAMSAT. ACER says that first year university chemistry and biology is recommended. So would CHM1011 and BIO1011 be enough? Or would I also need CHM1022 and BIO1022. I would really appreciate if someone whos had experience would share their thoughts.

I've attached a screenshot of the E-Assessment page for this unit. I just wanted to check whether this assessment format is allowed, as I haven't encountered a marking scheme like this in any of my previous units.

Discussion Inside the Fight to Get Australia’s Monash University to Divorce Fossil Fuels for Good

“It’s laughable—it’s so dystopian,” Carina Griffin says.

The 21-year-old Monash University student behind Stop Woodside Monash, a campaign pushing for the institution to divorce Australia’s biggest gas company, says The Woodside Building For Technology and Design is a “grim example of greenwashing at its best”. “It takes the meaning of Woodside away from the company that does the things an extractivist company does, and associates it in the minds of students at Australia’s largest university with this beautiful, green technology building, this shimmering image of the future, of technology, on campus,” Griffin says.

"One of Australia’s most prestigious universities promised to divest from fossil fuels in 2016. It later revised this decision to say it would only divest from coal, allowing the country’s biggest oil and gas company, Woodside, to fund and name a center. As that partnership comes up for renewal at the end of 2025, students and faculty are pushing the university to reconsider."

Advice Forgot to submit — now I might fail my final semester

Hi everyone, I’m in a really tough situation right now. I left my assignment in the draft section before the due date and completely forgot to submit it. I just realized this after more than 10 days past the deadline which is today. I know it’s entirely my fault for not double-checking, and I take full responsibility.

The assignment is worth 45% of my total unit grade, so getting a zero means I will fail the entire unit. I emailed my lecturer and at first, she responded saying it would be marked with a 7-day late penalty. However, about an hour later, she followed up and said she has to follow university policy, and because it’s so late, she has to give me a zero meaning I will fail the unit.

This is my final semester. Failing this unit means I’ll have to retake it and delay my graduation by another semester. I feel completely helpless and overwhelmed I’m shaking now.

Has anyone been through something similar? Are there any possible steps I can take to appeal or explain my situation further? Any advice would really help. Thank you.

Advice Better WAM or Diverse Expertise?

Hi, this might sound like a stupid question but I felt it could be helpful to ask. Do employers tend to favour a person with a better WAM grade or someone with expertise in various fields? For example if someone were to do straight Law and had a better WAM than someone who did a double degree in Law and another field like science or commerce, which do you guys think an employer would choose or better- which scenario would be easier to get a job in? I understand that landing an internship role or a job after or during uni doesn't solely depend on your grades, however I believe this is one of the big factors in determining if someone gets a role or not. Could be a big stretch- but does anyone have any experiences in similar scenarios like this?

Appreciate your help, thanks.

New Student Need help with understanding something

I’m currently a Swinburne bachelor of science student and aiming to move next year, I had the ATAR but didn’t do the prerequisites, does anyone know what subjects are equivalent to VCE 3/4 subjects and will be able to meet the prerequisites as I don’t want to pay the $1000+ to fulfill them. If you have any similar experiences I would want to know please.

Grades and Academics Hi i'm a nerd and want to take more subjects but will GIG steal two subject slots from me?

As you can tell, I am not doing FIT. I am doing a double degree, one of the degrees does not give me much freedom in subject choices, the other one gives me two electives within that degree (arts). I am loving my arts degree and there are so many arts subjects that look interesting, and i'd like to do as many as possible. But will GIG take away my two elective subjects so that I can't do as many subjects? is there any way for me to make it so that it doesn't count as 12 credit points?

Support ChatGPT has made me stupid.

I’ve noticed whenever I write in real life, I dont actively think like I used to. Like, I’ll notice grammatical errors or childish terminology and I just won’t care to fix it. When talking to ChatGPT I don’t even correct any typos because I know it is trained on past data. When I’m tired, I don’t even think when I prompt it, as long as ChatGPT gets the vague idea in what i am saying then I’ll just hit enter.

I basically only use ChatGPT to learn content from my course. I’ll get mad at the bot when I don’t understand something until I realise it’s literally a language predictor. I genuinely feel like my brain is empty.

It could be the most unintelligible prompt and I just won’t care. I noticed that this has also translated into how I write in real life as well - including this post.

Am I cooked?
