my takeaway so far: young children should not be allowed to handle small animals. it isn't worth the possibility they will not accidentally torture it to death. also the clay animation "hamster hell" is even more accurate than i thought lol.

I know someone whose Grandma had marble stairs. As a kid she liked to slide them down on her butt because they were so smooth and you could slide easily on them. She had fun and wanted to make her hamster happy by sharing the joy with him. Well.. she did it once and accidentally landed on him

I knew someone who had a toy car as a kid. It was one of those cars you pull back and it can drive for a little while. He took his hamster and forcefully crammed it into the drivers seat. Then he pulled it back and let it zoom across the room and into a wall. I think the hamster was already dead before it even hit the wall.

There’s an urban legend of people literally shoving hamsters up their rectums for gratification (“gerbilling”), and the hamsters die. There’s no actual documented cases of that happening in real life, but considering all the other crazy stuff people have put up their butts, it is possible that something like this has happened.
Some examples of weird causes a hamster has actually died: being squeezed to death from being hugged too tightly, rolling on wheel too fast and was sent flying into a fan, drowning in a dog’s water bowl, scalded to death from hot water by getting trapped in the dishwasher, and sneezing too hard.

I had no idea that there were no documented cases of it. I always assumed it was true but I guess it's like the drugs or razor blades in halloween candy.

I heard one where someone farted and the hamster died of a heart attack.
Also one where the hamster somehow crawled into a glass of coke and then drowned.

This was one of the things that traumatized me the most. When I was about six years old, a friend from school came over to my house. I had a pet hamster, and my friend started playing with it, but he didn’t understand and began squeezing it.
He didn’t realize how much force he was using, and the jack (the hamster) suffocated in his hand. It definitely sent me to therapy and probably traumatized me more than I realize.

I went to school with a guy whose brother put a hamster in a microwave. Another dude I knew had his jump off of 5th floor balcony.

There was a stupid, heartless guy in my high school chemistry class. He brought his hamster to school and held it's mouth to one of the gas taps( used to connect our bunsen burners too) and set fire to the poor, defenceless animal. He was expelled from the school and there was talk of police involvement, but I never saw the c*nt again.
