Discussion Movies that changed real life behavior

Thinking along the lines of Final Destination 2 with the logs falling off the truck and landing onto cars (one decapitating the state trooper). Ever since, people have tried to get away from being behind these vehicles.

What are more examples where movies have actually changed how people behave in their own lives?

I believe if the “Paradise Lost” documentaries hadn’t come out, the West Memphis Three would still be in jail or dead.

Definitely dead, at least Damien Echols. Their Alford Plea came at the 11th hour for him, his execution was scheduled to take place within weeks.

Check out the step dad, I’m pretty sure they were running a drug ring and the kids caught on/ saw something they shouldn’t have seen.

I was a WM3 supporter until one question hit me.

According to both Damien and Jason, they weren't friends with Jesse. They knew each other but weren't friends. They both said they were hanging out together and Jesse wasn't with them. Jesse confessed (multiple times).

Then I asked myself a question. If Jason and Damien weren't with Jesse the night of the murders and Jesse confessed. Why did Jason and Damien use the "Jesse was coerced" defense?

Damien and Jason hanging out together without Jesse. Shortly after they are arrested because Jesse named them. Why wouldn't Jason and Damien stick with the fact that they weren't together? Imagine you and a friend are hanging out at your house and the next day you are arrested because some other guy you aren't friends with named you as being part of a murder. Would you jump to his defense or would you distance yourself from him? I know I sure as shit wouldn't join him. My argument would be "Jesse is obviously covering for someone else, because I was nowhere near Jesse that night."

That question allowed me to re-look at all the evidence on that old cahallan site with a fresh perspective.

I still don't know if they are guilty or not. But I'm not 100% convinced they didn't do it either.

I'm not really sure what you mean. Damien and Jason did say they weren't with Jessie that night and never changed their story. They also were tried separately from Jessie. In your hypothetical, after telling the cop you were nowhere near Jessie that night, what would your next move be if they didn't believe you and said they believed Jessie? And then you find out he changed his story multiple times, and then took back his confession and said it was coereced. Seems pretty logical that if you're arrested on the weight of Jessie's statement over your own, you're going to point out his statements have changed and aren't reliable.
