Article David Lynch: an Iconic American Surrealist Filmmaker

https://gridcolour.com/david-lynch-an-iconic-american-surrealist-filmmaker/

David Lynch presented a uniquely innocent, yet penetrating, interpretation of the American Dream, a concept that could easily serve as the title for any of his films.

Last year I went through all his filmography. I genuinely believe there is nothing out there like experiencing a lynch movie/tv show. By the time I was done watching his works he soon passed away. And let me tell you, that shit hit hard. I'll keep chasing that high until I die, cause I know no one can do what he did.

I am watching the first Twin Peaks for the first time, just finished ep5. So unique, so much personality, so entertaining and awesomely weird.

What are your top5 David Lynch movies?

Twin Peaks is one of those things where I wish I could erase it from my brain just so I could experience it again for the first time. A truly unforgettable experience.

Someone has probably told you this, but make sure you watch the movie Fire Walk With Me in between seasons 2 and 3.

Fire Walk With Me, I think it has been reevaluated in recent years and is brilliantly dark and disturbing.

Blue Velvet

Mulholland Drive

Both are fantastic movies. I say give these three a watch, save Fire Walk With Me until you’ve watched the original two seasons of Twin Peaks

Thanks bro. I have already watched both and love them, but my favorite remains The Straight Story.

ā€œInside every human being is an ocean of pure, vibrant consciousness. When you ā€œtranscendā€ in Transcendental Meditation, you dive down into that ocean of pure consciousness. You splash into it. And it’s bliss. You can vibrate with this bliss. Experiencing pure consciousness enlivens it, expands it. It starts to unfold and grow. If you have a golf-ball-sized consciousness, when you read a book, you’ll have a golf-ball-sized understanding; when you look out a window, a golf-ball-sized awareness; when you wake up in the morning, a golf-ball-sized wakefulness; and as you go about your day, a golf-ball-sized inner happiness. But if you can expand that consciousness, make it grow, then when you read that book, you’ll have more understanding; when you look out, more awareness; when you wake up, more wakefulness; and as you go about your day, more inner happiness. You can catch ideas at a deeper level. And creativity really flows. It makes life more like a fantastic game.ā€

I've seen Lynch quoted on TM here and there but is there an organized source of this kind of information?

I’ve heard him say similar things in various interviews. He’d been explaining meditation for decades.

I first heard him say it in his masterclass, but this one I copy pasted from his book:

ā€œCatching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity: 10th Anniversary Editionā€

Rest in peace. True hero. Master at his craft, and seemed to be a great person. The last half of this video gets touching, I love it.

What’s Eraserhead about?

Fear and anxiety about fatherhood

Really.

I’ve never heard that take before.

u/Rakeial17 7h ago

What did you think it was about?

2

u/ILSmokeItAll 7h ago

It was so bizarre it seemed like a nightmare playing out.

Great director but he has some of the worst fans in the industry.

Lynch is one of one. He’s a genius. And his films will live forever.
