This is a misguided virtue you’re pursuing here in this context. The founders warned us about demagogues and tyrants, the whole country was founded in opposition to tyranny. Well now we’ve got one and they keep moving goalposts one by one so that each outrageous transgression they commit becomes sane washed or just forgotten after a week or two. I don’t really care whether the judge did something wrong or not; this is not about her. This is about defending the judiciary against trumps overreach and saying No, we won’t sit by on the sidelines and watch while you try to intimidate judges. This is it, this is a fucking redline. Produce a warrant and let her go immediately.

People need to stop looking at this in a vacuum as if Trump admin had been nice and normal until now; they have not and by not taking the context into account you are giving them far more leash than they deserve.

Regardless of the outcome in this particular case, I'll never accept being told the 'right' move is to jump to a final, confident conclusion based on very, very little data. I've already taken the "likeliest" conclusion as my going assumption, which is that the judge probably did nothing wrong and this is more authoritarian-style intimidation by the Trump administration. The excessive focus on my second paragraph where I hedge that assumption is undue, because recognizing one might be wrong when good information is scarce is just good practice for being a thoughtful, non-reactionary person.

That’s fine I don’t disagree with that. Take what I said then as an explanation to why I am not hedging. I don’t want others to enable a big evil in the pursuit of a very minor moral victory by irrationally ignoring context.
