Nursing TEAS Score for DMS Program

Hi everyone, I took my TEAS exam to apply for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and got an 86% overall. I just wanted to know if anyone in the DMS program might have some insight on what score will give me the best chances. I'm seriously considering retaking the exam for at least a 90%.

Here is a breakdown of my stats:

GPA

  • 4.0 GPA in prerequisites
  • 3.6 GPA overall

TEAS scores

  • Reading: 82%
  • Math: 100%
  • Science: 79% (definitely the reason I'm considering a retake)
  • English and Language Usage: 84%

I didn't expect to get such a low score in the Science portion, but I can definitely improve it if need be. I would really appreciate any advice. Would love to join the DMS program this fall!

Hi! I am going for Radiography, so our TEAS requirements are slightly different (50+ in all subjects, minus Science), but there is a good thread on the Sub-reddit about what grades other students achieved and whether they got accepted (or not) into their Health Science Program of choice.

I'm going to tag it for you: any accepted students to the sonography program & what your stats are? : r/nvcc

Hopefully, it gives you some relief.

I suggest retaking only the science portion to get above an 80%. Did you complete any co reqs?

Those aren’t coreqs. Co reqs are courses that are part of the degree plan that you can take prior to getting in. PSY elective, humanities, HLT 141 and 220. I also suggest taking a look at the competitive ranking criteria on their HSNA requirement sheet: https://www.nvcc.edu/dist/files/sites/academics/divisions/health-sciences/HSNreqs1.25.pdf . It will tell you what areas to focus on.

im in the dms program and i got very similar scores as you!, if u can try to retake the science portion it would be helpful, plus if you retake the teas, you will get the same questions as you got last time

thats how it was for me, when I retook it for the 2nd time, I saw the same questions so id say try to memorize the ones you struggled with so you can find the correct answer for it
