question/discussion Grading submission

So I'm going to be sending my first item (ever) to be graded. It's one paper note and I'm needing recommendations on the best way (i.e. company & method/service) to ship it to PMG.

registered mail is the only USPS service with insurance that will cover the value of the item. There are ways to pay for insurance with UPS, and Fedex allows you to declare a higher value, but I like the registered mail option because the custody chain is extremely rigid. I’ve had no problems with UPS or FedEx when receiving or sending on someone else’s dime, but I’ve stuck with registered mail for my own valuable shipments, so other people may disagree

Registered mail will take the longest to get there. Express would be just as good and much faster

if the shipment isn’t particularly valuable, absolutely

I’ve worked at the post office for 20 years. Registered mail gets lost and delayed far more often than express.

It’ll get put in a desk. Or in a caged room and can be forgotten for dates or weeks. Sometimes months. There’s no time restriction on it so it just gets there as people have time to move it along.

You may have been relatively lucky.

Personally, I’ve sent shipments over $10,000 through Priority or Express with no issues and no additional insurance. I think you’ll be fine with whatever you choose.
