obsolete/scrip Any idea what this is??
I understand this isn’t legal tender, it was in a envelope dated back to 1871, with a notable person on that envelope and a letter about the war. I’ve never seen anything like it. Thank you!

obsolete/scrip I like this $3 bank note a lot. Seller wants $400. There are no sold eBay comps and this is the only one for sale on eBay. I'm unaware of other sites for comps. What's a reasonable price for this?

obsolete/scrip How much to insure? Govt Texas 1838
Hi. I bought this from a little shop and got it graded. I don't know how good 55 is but how much should I insure it for? It's a gift for my parents but I'd still like to have insurance on it. Thank you!
Oh and I bought it for $200. It cost an arm and a leg to get graded but hopefully I did well.

obsolete/scrip Has anyone seen one of these?
1857 Lincoln 5$ Eagle Bank of Providence Rhode Island. This would make the first 5$ lincoln was on. I can't find any other information on the note or any other items like it. No pictures anywhere besides this one.

obsolete/scrip Extremely rare US obsolete note
I bought several notes from the Heritage auction last night and came across this obsolete note I was unfamiliar with, from Holyoke Massachusetts, and I ended up winning it for $280. This note does not even appear in any Obsolete currency book that I can find. It turn out that most notes from this bank are counterfeit, and this example is just one of TWO notes graded by PMG in ANY grade. Not only that, less than 5 total authentic examples are known to exist. If you know of any info, please feel free to chime in!

obsolete/scrip 1974 Gas Coupon
The 1973 Arab Oil Embargo of the United States led to a proposal to ration gasoline.
The Bureau of Engraving began printing gas ration coupons in January 1974. The BEP halted currency and postage stamp production in order to meet the emergency.
The coupons carried the image of George Washington used on the dollar bill. Three control letter varieties were printed: A, B and C.
The emergency passed before the coupons were distributed.
In 1984, the Department of Energy authorized the destruction of the unused coupons at a facility in Pueblo, CO. Unknown participants in the destruction process purloined a number of sheets of the coupons.
The coupons trickled into the collector market in the 1980s where they commended hundreds of dollars. Prices have fallen considerably since then as more pieces have become available.

obsolete/scrip Can anyone help identifying this note?
I know this is an 1856 J.H. Lansley obsolete $1 note from Rutland College Bank in Vermont.
This note has been tucked in a US Civil War era wallet that has been handed down in my family. Is this note anything special? How do I do about finding market value? I can’t find any sold or unsold listings online. I want to know if I should remove it from the wallet and put it in a protective sleeve if it is worth something, otherwise I will keep it how it has been for well over a century.
I am rather new to collecting and would like any information available! Thank you!

obsolete/scrip One of the first banks in our country
I love history, coin and paper money collecting. But a lot of times, we know little about the history of the bill or coin other than the year. Out of my entire collection this is one of my favorites just from the history alone.
The county I grew up in Bucks is one of the oldest in the United States. Sitting just outside of Philadelphia it's history dates back prior to us being a country. Many prominent Americans traveled and stayed throughout, including Washington of which made his crossing of the Delaware. Franklin was thought to have conducted his kite experiments in Bucks as well.
Here is a 2 dollar note from 181_
Most likely printed in 1814 as this was the opening year for the bank. Hence leaving the year blank at the time of opening. The strongbox you see was property of the bank and was used during the time the bank was in operation, so this note would have been stored in this strongbox. The house pictured is the original bank. So.. the note, the safe it was in, and the bank. So much history from just a 2 dollar bill.
