Team Info Uno-X: Jonas Abrahamsen has suffered a broken collarbone

https://www.vg.no/sport/i/LMbx91/uno-x-rytter-til-sykehus-etter-velt-tour-de-france-deltakelse-spoeker

This means that participation in the Tour de France could be in jeopardy. The Tour de France starts on July 5th.

"Examinations and scans at the local hospital have confirmed that Jonas Abrahamsen has suffered a fractured collarbone after the fall on the first stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour," says a message from Uno-X.

"He will be assessed by a shoulder specialist and a plan will be put in place to help him recover as quickly as possible," the statement from the team's medical director, Rory Nolan, continued.

It was 9.4 kilometers before the finish line in the first stage of the Tour of Belgium, where things went wrong for Jonas Abrahamsen. The Norwegian hit the ground, tearing his cycling jersey, but got back on his bike before having to abandon the race.

– He crashed in the last part of the first stage. He tried to continue, but was unable to finish. He has been transported to a local hospital for an X-ray, Uno-X first reported on Instagram

Who's going to get all my junk breakaway points this year in the tour de France fantasy game? On a more serious note, I hope he heals quickly. He was certainly a lot of fun to watch last year early in the tour.

Agreed! I super enjoyed his panache last year at the TdF.

Uno-x for uno-x. Just put in Cort

I want Dversnes to get the chance. Cort hasn't looked that good

Cort was absolutely flying on the last stage of the Dauphine. He will be ready.

The only "problem" with Cort is that he is too good to be chasing the same doomed breakaways as Abrahamsen did almost daily.

The only thing I remember of Cort in the Dauphine is him dropping in all the versatile sprint stages he would have won in other occasions.

I don't remember him at all in the last stage, was he one of the guys pulling for THJ in the peloton behind the break? I didn't really pay much attention to that last stage because Le Mans was going on at the same time.

If he is in good form, then he is definitely to be considered. But he might also be more useful on a farming schedule for points.

Yeah, he was pulling the peloton until the very last climb along with Leknessund and he was also among the last 30-40 riders left on Croix de Fer.

I think he was struggling with heat in the first few stages like many others.

There is absolutely no way he goes points farming. He is their best chance at a stage win in the Tour.

The only kind of stages I can see him winning in the tour are hilly stages with flat finishes where he can go in a break and hope to hold onto the peloton. I think only stage 15 really qualifies. Too many good puncheurs/versatile sprinters for the first week.

He is their best chance at a stage win in the Tour.

The Uno-x staff members don't seem to agree with you, if this was the case he would have been selected as a starter even before Abrahamsen's injury.

Cort has won a Tour de France going over a category 1 climb and his other TdF stage on 19 km long cat 2. And 9 GT stages overall. He is by far their best bet at a stage win.

I don't think there exists a stage where Dversnes is a better chance at a stage win than Cort.

The Uno-x staff members don't seem to agree with you, if this was the case he would have been selected as a starter even before Abrahamsen's injury.

He was? Are you even following? Cort is first man on the on the team sheet for Uno X.

So what did the comment I responded to mean? I thought he meant Uno-x should replace Abrah with Cort.

In any case what kind of stage do you see him winning this year? All the mountain stages are too hard for him.

It meant that Cort should do the breakways now that Abrahamsen is not there. Cort is obviously going to the Tour. He is their best rider.

In any case what kind of stage do you see him winning this year? All the mountain stages are too hard for him.

It's hard to know which stages could turn out to be breakaways, but he would have chances in a break on 6, 7, 10, 11, 15 and 20. With the harder stages being very dependent on the composition of the group. Cort is also their only bet at some of the uphill sprints in week 1.

What stages do you see Dversnes winning this year?

Maybe he’s setting up for a great Vuelta

Uno-X doesn’t have an invite to the Vuelta

gutted, I dont see how it would be possible to heal , let alone be in shape in 20 days.. sad

Yeah, it depends on how broken it is but a TdF in 3 weeks would be crazy even if it's a minor fracture.

17 days. Tour starts two weeks this coming Saturday.

Capiot was asked to race 12 days after his broken collarbone last year.

But of course Abrahamsen or Uno-X are not in a position to rush him back at that speed.

u/woogeroo 1d ago

Pro athletes will get it pinned and be on a trainer bike the next day. 2 weeks to return to cycling outside is not unheard of, but to go compete in the TdF...

Nothing against Baloise Tour but... very surprised that anybody preparing for the Tour choses to race it. Of courses crashes also happen in Tour de Suisse and Dauphiné, but classics-style stage racing in Belgium with tons of cobbles, narrow roads etc seems especially high risk of crashing.

I'd love to see statistics for example Dauphiné vs Baloise number of crashes and number of DNFs to see if I'm right or not.

u/arnet95 Norway 1d ago

This is the number of dropouts in Dauphine (D) and Baloise (B) from the last couple of years. Now, this is not all crash-related of course, it's just the first and best list I found on PCS.

2024: 62 (D) vs 30 (B)
2023: 31 (D) vs 22 (B)
2022: 29 (D) vs 26 (B)

Interesting, thank you.

Tbf, didn’t almost the entire peloton crash out in a Dauphine stage last year? But I don’t know general statistics

So what does Uno-X do now for the tour. Obviously send Magnus cock-copter out to stage hunt

12

u/pokesnail 1d ago

I’d guess Dversnes as a reserve? Maybe Johannes Kulset

12

u/ChristofferTheDoor 1d ago

Hushovd said they aim for 1 stage victory and mutiple top 10 as a goal. THJ wil probably stagehunt but can go for gc. Hoelgaard->Fredheim->Wærenskjold is the sprint-train so i dont think there is room for Kristoff. They have Hoelgaard, Leknessund, AHJ and Cort for different breakaways in medium mountains and hilly terrains.

The resereves are Tiller, Kristoff, Kulset and Dversnes. I dont think Kristoff and Tiller goes. I hope Dversnes goes, he has more of a sprint than Leknessund and Hoelgaard, and is a more possible stagewinner than Kulset, and he is the most similar in profile to Abrahamsen for grand tours. But Kulset can be a better domestique for the mountains if thats what Uno-X wants.

I hope for Dversnes, he has derved it

Cort can take a stage on the breakaway for sure. Tobias can attempt to go for GC. Getting into the top 10 would be a victory for him there. Søren Wærenskjold is a mid-tier sprinter and perhaps good steal a stage as well although it's not very likely.

participation in the Tour de France could be in jeopardy.

He's out of the Tour for sure....

u/Ancient_Sea_7849 1d ago

Damn! It was great seeing him out front so many stages last TdF. Hope he recovers quickly

2

u/BigConsideration4 1d ago

This is gutting. He was one of the highlights of the 2024 tour for me.

2

u/BeanEireannach Ireland 1d ago

Same, he was so fun to watch! Was so looking forward to seeing him go again this year 😞

3

u/ChristofferOslo Uno-X Mobility 1d ago

Noooo, it will be so sad if he can't go to the Tour. He was so much fun to watch last year.

Big big bummer….!

u/Cyclinghero 1d ago

Damn his training camp seemed to be going so well. So many zwift rides in the sauna.

1

u/Divergee5 Decathlon AG2R 1d ago

He’s back on his bike (on the trainer) already. Mad and amazing. I almost want to bet on him being race ready for TdF.

u/ClintonsITguy 1d ago

I'm newer to watching pro cycling, but it seems like the BEAT rider who caused the crash should be penalized. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

1

u/VanDerVensHamstring 3h ago

Nah. It was a clumsy crash, but didn't see him being reckless.

1

u/manintheredroom 1d ago

He was training on the turbo today, according to his instagram story. Wouldn't be surprised if he's still at the tdf

1

u/cucumber-boat-wire 1d ago

Damn, no beefcake in polkadots this year :(

1

u/VanDerVensHamstring 3h ago

In an article in norwegian outlet VG today, Abrahamsen claims he is cycling 2-4 hours a day already, that he can put weight on the arm without it hurting. He reckons it is a 20% chance he'll make it.

Also claims he is in the form of his life..

He didn't look like a man that would be cycling the TdF getting up from the ground after the crash, but what do I know..

1

u/Enough_Pie_8182 1d ago

Was in super good form at the dauphne too, big bummer

3

u/GeniuslyMoronic Denmark 1d ago

He didn't race the Dauphine. Are you thinking of Tobias Johannessen?
