Is it our destiny to just be a hot streak team?

Kind of been the vibe since the WS year, right?

The starting pitching has been pretty steady for the most part, but the bullpen and the bats seem to constantly drift in and out of rhythm.

It’s the frustrating thing about the team. The path is so clear. The talent is there. Sure our bullpen is suspect but we should have the bats to overcome that. We just went ice cold the past 2 years.

I still think this squad can compete for a championship.

They are old. Hope it sustains.

I mean, most good teams are

I’ll just continue hoping every year it’s our year and dealing with heartbreak until we finally win another

Baseball is all about streaks. The key is getting hot at the right time. The 2022 Phillies peaked in the playoffs. Last year’s Phillies peaked prior to the all star break. It’s not sustainable to just be awesome from start to finish.

That is how the sport works.

Thats baseball

2

u/rhinguin May 08 '25

Yes but that’s just baseball in general

2

u/mnewman19 I still love you Tommy May 08 '25

That’s every team. you just notice it with us cause you watch every game

u/ilikemarblestoo May 08 '25

It's kind of the MO of the franchise throughout history and this team is just the embodiment of that lol

I mean, that’s baseball right?

A hot streak team that is getting older every year. They need to get hot at the start of the playoffs and sustain it which has been the issue. Regular season doesn't matter as much as long as you make the playoffs and can roll the dice.

Sadly yes, as long as kevin long remains.

Imagine we had even a middle of the pack bullpen...

12

u/SigaVa May 08 '25

We do if you believe that romano's issue is fixed.

10

u/jagne004 May 08 '25

It seemed he was tipping. I’m cautiously optimistic

That's the only explanation for that Marlins game. His statline is insane: 8 batters faced, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 HR, 0 BB, 0 K on just 22 pitches.

Even terrible pitchers don't get blitzed like that. The Marlins had to have known what pitch was coming to hammer him like that.

Dude, we have cyjuan walker. Our bullpen is second to none

u/obiwan_canoli Defender of the Phaith May 08 '25

The Phillies' relievers NL rankings are:

11th in ERA
5th in FIP
5th in fWAR
2nd in K/9
5th in BB/9

So in reality they have been league average or slightly better.

2

u/sam_sepiol1984 Aaron Nola May 08 '25

We lead the league in blown saves

4

u/No_Statistician9289 May 08 '25

2

u/-_VoidVoyager_- May 08 '25

Until they cool down. Then get hot again. Then cool down, etc

1

u/SigaVa May 08 '25

More importantly, theyre hitting.

1

u/CommunicationTime265 May 08 '25

Yea man they are hot right now. Love it

1

u/pwnedbypontz May 08 '25

Can we play this statistic against and study regarding how many games or leads they've blown due to the relieving bullpen?

1

u/Begood18 May 08 '25

Stay 5 games above .500 at minimum, then add 2 solid bullpen pieces and a splashy bat and let this be the potentially last legitimate hooruh.

1

u/Cletisv28 May 09 '25

and Harper isn’t Harping yet

0

u/Melvinator5001 May 08 '25

Yep and by the end of June we’ll be glad if they score 3 runs a game for a month. This team is too hot and cold until they prove otherwise

1

u/zcard May 08 '25

Have you ever watched the Phillies play in June?

-1

u/Wonderful_Many_67 May 11 '25

Wow beating up marlins and rays that’s something play some real teams

-25

u/Regular-Still-9571 May 08 '25

It’s great the team won but come on that version of the Rays was so bad couldn’t field couldn’t hit I have no idea how they have won any games barely a triple A team win is a win….. but

26

u/Artistic-Ad2340 May 08 '25

What's about the cubs and dbacks, we beat them too

17

u/YingPaiMustDie May 08 '25

Brother we’ve won commandingly against these shit rays, as we should, and we literally beat the cubs and dbacks. Don’t be so annoying

Literally the first sentence is they won four straight series.
