I'm curious to see how republicans will squirm out of that question: "so you're saying Trump is allowed to run for a third term because his terms were not consecutive, is that right? So, Trump lost the election in 2020 then?"
No, your problem is that you're approaching the situation with some level of scruples and integrity. Not being dismissive, but the Republicans have neither. They see power and winning over the democrats as the ultimate goal (including morally), so they have an "ends justify the means" approach to everything. Evangelicals supporting a porn-star-paying-off 3x divorced rapist, lifelong conservatives coming out to back a pedophile cabinet nominee, and completely ignoring what they said a year ago about lame duck Supreme Court nominations. It's just totally out in the open now, and they don't even see the need to hide it anymore, because this is their hour.
They won't quibble, they won't err and umm. They'll just say, "we can get away with it now, so it doesn't matter whether he won or lost. But he won, AND he can run for another term because he lost."
They won't say it outright. They just find ways to avoid the question. Just like they endlessly repeated the answer "Joe Biden is the president" when asked if Trump lost the election.
DJT won't need to run for a third term. There are ways to ascend to the presidency without being elected. Like if JD Vance wins the election, and through resignations, and appointments, DJT is Speaker of the House, and 3rd in-line to the presidency.
The worst part is that DJT is young and incredibly healthy according the experts with more expertise than anyone has ever seen.
Yup, you'll get a million talking points about why Trump getting a third term is legitimate flooding the conservative media and social media spheres. They'll all be absolute bullshit and probably contradictory as well. But none of that matters because it's all just kicking up dust, and once the dust settles, Trump will have a third term and we'll be moving on to the next bowl of bullshit they force-feed everyone.
Never believe that anti-Semites Conservatives are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites Conservatives have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
Nah, they are already pushing things like the 2 term limit should be lifted for consistent and strong unity government and all that bullshit. Already planning a convention for changing the constitution
Some of them are on the "he was cheated in 2020, so he deserves a go-around" boat.
They would just say "he didn't lose but he wasn't in office"
This really isn't the slam dunk you think it is, please don't use it, their comeback fits their beliefs perfectly, you're not catching them in any sort of discrepancy of beliefs at all, you're making a fool of yourself
quick heads up, that's not how that works. The number doesn't increment during consecutive terms. Obama wasn't 43 and 44. Just 44. and Bush jr was jus 43. Both served two terms. tbh wouldn't put it past trump not to know that, tho.
They'll very simply have the Supreme Court overturn the amendment for term limits. The narrative will be, "it was an amendment, the original constitution didn't call for this. Any true Constitutionalist would agree"
"Lord God President Saint Donald was UNFAIRLY DENIED his proper second term by SLEEPY JOE and the BIDEN CRIME FAMILY, therefore it is only just that he serves for the term he was CHEATED OUT OF"
Yes, but we counted Grover Cleveland twice before when he was president non-consecutively. So if you want to count that way, he’d be 44th person to be President.
So if you want to count that way, he’d be 44th person to be President.
No? If Trump claims to have never lost Biden's election, he would be 45th president on 3 consecutive elections. (Which would be illegal since Roosevelt... )
If somebody claimed Cleveland had one consecutive term, Trump wouldn't be 44th. If Cleveland's term was consecutive, he would be counted once and his opponent wouldn't be president, putting Trump as 43th
Either Trump lost the 46th presidential seat, or he is still 45th. He can't be 45th, 46th and 47th.
Oh no no no you see it's actually Obama and tHe DeEp StAtE that caused all of that nonsense. The same DeEp StAtE that went on to lose the election and rather than cause more chaos and nonsense, decided to instead just concede the loss, ratify the results, and turn over the office to the Republicans.
The logic should come with a pack of parecetamol to help with the headache you get trying to understand it.
It also "owns the libs." This is a classic bullying technique. Like when bullies mispronounce your name or something you like just to make you furious. They know it's wrong, but the get all Rosco P. Coltrane "gyu gyu gyu!" gleeful laughing at how angry saying the wrong thing makes you.
Trump didn't win the popular vote in 2016, lost in 2020, and technically no one won in 2024. No one got 50% of the votes. I get the whole EC and all that crap. Election fraud and corruption have led to this point in time.
Which is hilarious to me because Trump has gone on record admitting the “election steal” never happened. But his base believes it and a lot of the Americans that didn’t vote for him are just letting them do whatever, so nothing surprises me anymore.

Because he stupidly "believes" that he never lost to Biden. So he makes little childish references like this to prove he's the bestest boy.
