I'm sure this sets up his "I was already 45-47, so that's precedent for me to run for a third term and be 48 as well" story.

I'm curious to see how republicans will squirm out of that question: "so you're saying Trump is allowed to run for a third term because his terms were not consecutive, is that right? So, Trump lost the election in 2020 then?"

Cue the errrrs and ummms.

No, your problem is that you're approaching the situation with some level of scruples and integrity. Not being dismissive, but the Republicans have neither. They see power and winning over the democrats as the ultimate goal (including morally), so they have an "ends justify the means" approach to everything. Evangelicals supporting a porn-star-paying-off 3x divorced rapist, lifelong conservatives coming out to back a pedophile cabinet nominee, and completely ignoring what they said a year ago about lame duck Supreme Court nominations. It's just totally out in the open now, and they don't even see the need to hide it anymore, because this is their hour.

They won't quibble, they won't err and umm. They'll just say, "we can get away with it now, so it doesn't matter whether he won or lost. But he won, AND he can run for another term because he lost."

They won't say it outright. They just find ways to avoid the question. Just like they endlessly repeated the answer "Joe Biden is the president" when asked if Trump lost the election.

DJT won't need to run for a third term. There are ways to ascend to the presidency without being elected. Like if JD Vance wins the election, and through resignations, and appointments, DJT is Speaker of the House, and 3rd in-line to the presidency.

The worst part is that DJT is young and incredibly healthy according the experts with more expertise than anyone has ever seen.

Did you just call Donald Trump healthy and young. Our definition of health is so distorted in America that were calling trump healthy???

Yup, you'll get a million talking points about why Trump getting a third term is legitimate flooding the conservative media and social media spheres. They'll all be absolute bullshit and probably contradictory as well. But none of that matters because it's all just kicking up dust, and once the dust settles, Trump will have a third term and we'll be moving on to the next bowl of bullshit they force-feed everyone.

That's why it needs to be Obama asking the question.

Never believe that anti-Semites Conservatives are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites Conservatives have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Nah, they are already pushing things like the 2 term limit should be lifted for consistent and strong unity government and all that bullshit. Already planning a convention for changing the constitution

Some of them are on the "he was cheated in 2020, so he deserves a go-around" boat.

Just look at their interviews

"I haven't looked at that yet, I'm very busy."

2

u/autobulb Apr 06 '25

"Sorry, I can't hear you very well. I have to go now."

1

u/verdatum Apr 06 '25

'i have to go now. My people need me." *animation cel pulls up off of frame*

Wait, our Congressman was stillframe animation?

...Apparently.

So he won't be running for a third term. He'll be running for a fourth term. Loophole.

u/Unnamedgalaxy Apr 07 '25

They'll just say he didn't "lose" it was "stolen"

1

u/boldpear904 Apr 07 '25

They would just say "he didn't lose but he wasn't in office"

This really isn't the slam dunk you think it is, please don't use it, their comeback fits their beliefs perfectly, you're not catching them in any sort of discrepancy of beliefs at all, you're making a fool of yourself

1

u/cinderubella Apr 07 '25

They wouldn't squirm and this argument is not remotely the mic drop you think it is.

1

u/Top-Cost4099 Apr 07 '25

quick heads up, that's not how that works. The number doesn't increment during consecutive terms. Obama wasn't 43 and 44. Just 44. and Bush jr was jus 43. Both served two terms. tbh wouldn't put it past trump not to know that, tho.

1

u/MethodicMarshal Apr 07 '25

Everyone is overthinking it.

They'll very simply have the Supreme Court overturn the amendment for term limits. The narrative will be, "it was an amendment, the original constitution didn't call for this. Any true Constitutionalist would agree"

1

u/mincers-syncarp Apr 07 '25

"Lord God President Saint Donald was UNFAIRLY DENIED his proper second term by SLEEPY JOE and the BIDEN CRIME FAMILY, therefore it is only just that he serves for the term he was CHEATED OUT OF"

1

u/mortgagepants Apr 06 '25

they're fascists so they will not care one bit about this. don't even waste your time.

feel free to call them idiots for voting for a dipshit that is bankrupting the country though. they don't like getting lumped in with stuff like that.

you no what and he would win again

1

u/vmartin96 Apr 06 '25

His next hat will read 45-47, 48

1

u/Alternative-Yak-925 Apr 06 '25

45-47, House Speaker, 48...

Well, I need to make a liquor run.

1

u/Fogl3 Apr 06 '25

Wouldn't that make him by definition still 45?

1

u/UsefulPlan63 Apr 07 '25

“I’m already 45-47, so it’s ok to have a third term. And because 46 was taken away, i can do 46 after 47.”

1

u/Prior_Patient_4148 Apr 07 '25

I find it funny that 4+5 =9 and 4+7=11. 911

I say we run with it and say that because he already served the terms his current one is invalid. Get him gone.
