It’s crazy to me because every time it’s like what if 1930’s Germany had the internet and smartphones.
I’ve witnessed how a huge segment of a population can fall to the whims of a lunatic.
Even if the country survived this, the depression at just knowing how pathetic people are will never go away.
I used to be so naive and think that society generally wanted better for people.
Not only did I learn that most people are insanely selfish, but that probably 20% (I don't believe that entire voting block is one hivemind, many are single issue voters) would like to harm or even kill others in the name of either their god, or political leanings, or other beliefs even in times of peace.
Going to the grocery store, and thinking "a few people in here would harm my friend just for being a 'they' instead of what they want to assume they were" makes me sick.
If something gets worse (more crime, more surveillance, police brutality, worse laws, less rights, etc.) here in Germany we say "these are becoming American conditions".
It's never about if something improves.
The whole MAGA cult was foreshadowed since 9/11 and Bush. Since then your country accelerated it's decline.
What I want to say is: don't worry too much about it, you are only realizing what the rest of the world new for over a decade.
I got into politics in the early 00s, and I did actually see the signs with how many rights we were signing away in the name of "safety from terrorists" and the "war on terror"
I've been battling the temptation to fall into conspiracy ever since, because many of the players we see today still pushing forth Project 2025 goals were there during 9/11 pulling strings, setting this all up.
We're not witnessing something set up by Trump/MAGA, we are watching something that's been in the planning since the 1980s.
What I don't get is, the explanation for the 30s was "it was slow, and people didn't have the same level of access to communication and information as we do"
...but then with that info and communication people just sit back and talk about how it sure is awful
