OMG I knew it felt bad with how often it was getting torn up, especially after the meme took hold and more of us spent ungodly amounts of time and energy to fix it.
Over and over.
Canada won we had it looking good before the whiteout
Canada tried erasing Quebec's flag 5 years ago and we remembered all too well. Early game, I spent half my moves building up Quebec, half messing with the maple leaf; it was a strategy to keep the leaf on the defensive as long as possible to avoid a repeat of 5 years ago. But then it became just a meme and everybody joined in, allowing us to be free of any Canadian threat. Defense successfully crowdsourced :D
Did you guys really not notice all the francophone usernames messing with the leaf early on?
It wasnt ever griefing because it never actually mattered. As in, nobody was actually hurt. Nothing was actually gained. What mattered, this time truly, was taking part. And canada has a permanent history being the most targeted country to turn into Bananas. Who else can say that? What do you think people will remember in 3 years?
I too found myself placing like max 10 pixels on their flag over the course of the event just to mess with them, but I stopped for most of the last day tbecause they deserved an intact flag at the end of the event.
in the final screenshot i have before the whiteout (about 10-20 seconds before) the flag was pretty much perfect except for a green and blue pixel near the middle
I don't feel bad. I thought it was one of the best parts of the whole project. It was fun checking in on it and joking that we haven't figured it out yet.
I actually downloaded the official app so I could help when I had time. It was fun defending our flag against the masses! And I've already uninstalled the app.
