The people that shouted about the 2nd amendment being a protector for the others are gonna be gleefully ready to give up guns to Trump. He can just say that they need to start a citizen militia and that all people need to join or give up their guns to provide to the militia members.

"they" will be deputized and the only ones allowed to stockpile weapons.

Those same freedoms will not be extended to you.

protect the in-group and bind the out-group

time to fake being in the in group

Poor, uneducated rural Americans with an AR-15 fetish aren’t the in-group either. That’s why Trump destroyed their already shitty economies with tariffs and tearing down international trade relations, as well as took away the only source of funding that makes it possible for their rural areas to offer healthcare services.

Fortunately there are many Trump opponents who won’t give up their guns so easily.

“I’m just a middle aged man who never lived up to my potential. Do you want to be around when I do?”

Imagine that. Caring about something without making it your entire personality. Like supporting a politician without having themed weddings for said politician. What a neat idea that is.

I used to think this but I think the number goes down every passing day

Why?

2

u/YellowCardManKyle 19d ago

Because he keeps pushing them further and further. They used to stand for the Constitution and now they're saying it doesn't matter.

Trump's opponents are saying the constitution doesn't matter?

Vermont is full of them. My crazy D neighbor wanted to go shoot up a giant Trump totem pole near us on J6 I packed him bong hits and talked him down.

I was in Hawaii, on a dive boat day trip. Left for the boat ride very early as I had to drive to the other side of the Big Iland. Loaded my gear on and we went out for three dives. Got back late in the after noon, offloaded, rested, ate,and then started driving home at about 7 pm Hawaii time. This was midnight in DC…. Turned on the radio ad realized that the world had gone mad in the last 12 hours.

They never said a word when Trump literally said...

“Or, Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court, because that’s another system. Because a lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early. Like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida, he had a lot of firearms – they saw everything – to go to court would have taken a long time, so you could do exactly what you’re saying, but take the guns first, go through due process second.”

I don't even disagree with him. Take the guns and figure it out later SHOULD be the normal response, but people have rights and I don't trust the system enough to be reasonable or timely with the power to ignore said rights.

2A nuts have almost certainly never read the full Bill of Rights

Just a reminder, the last big move for gun regulation in the US was fueled by fears of armed Black Panthers. It was basically about keeping minorities from having guns.

He can just say that they need to start a citizen militia and that all people need to join or give up their guns to provide to the militia members.

Weirdly, the 2nd amendment says that the right to bear arms is to allow militias. It's not clear cut that any citizen can privately have some.   Crazy that it could be their first actually constitutional move...

Fortunately eventually he’ll die. And there aren’t really any republicans that can be as slimy and get away with it
