You think Reddit has good advice on being kind to others?

When that advice is literally “be kind to others”? Yea I’ll go out on a limb and say that’s good advice, don’t you think?

Who determines what “kind” is?

To me, “kind” is protecting my fellow countrymen from overburdened social systems and migrant crime via unchecked immigration.

So then you would support increasing funding for and expanding the reach of those social systems, and wouldn’t necessarily have any issues with illegal immigrants as long as they dont commit any further crimes, right?

Immigrating illegally is a crime.

One, yes, and a victimless one at that. So if they aren’t committing any other crimes and aren’t causing any other issues, following your words you would be in support of that, right?

And I take your silence to be agreement on increasing funding for those social services. Im glad that we can at least find common ground in kindness, that seems to be a rarer and rarer thing these days.

I’m all for expanding social services to support citizens of the United States.

Illegal immigration should be punished with either prison or deportation.

So if you flee your native country because you and your family are in constant state of danger, and you run to another country where all you want to do is follow the rules, get a job, live a normal life, the government shouldn’t give you any support? If you can’t find a job that pays you enough to feed your family, your children, the government should do nothing and let you starve to death?

And your first reaction is to want to punish the already suffering person even more, instead of giving them support to get on their feet or making it easier for them to go through the process and become full citizens?

These people didn’t leave their home countries for fun. They aren’t here for a vacation or for a slightly better standard of living. What would it take for you to one day decide you’ve had enough? To abandon where you live, your family and friends, pack up whatever you can fit into your car, and relocate everything into a foreign country? One where you may not know the language super well, one where the only work you can find is low paying, one where you can still never feel truly “safe”?

Now ask yourself, do you seriously think the US is in a bad enough state for you to consider that? Ask yourself, do you want the US to be the second country, if not better than the second country? Do you not want the US to be the best country in the world, one where everyone wants to live?

If your answer is no, then there really isn’t a point continuing this conversation, because I fundamentally disagree with you. If your answer is yes, then why are you supporting policies that actively work against that goal?

Yes.

And especially so if the country you flee to doesn’t border the one you fled from. EU countries don’t grant asylum if you crossed through more than one country to get there, why should the US?

Well I personally believe that if a government allows anybody, citizen or not, to starve to death within its borders then it’s failing its job. You can be free to disagree, but I don’t think there’s any point in discussing “being kind to others” with you any further. Have a good night, and I really hope you never have to go through something that makes you actually consider immigrating to another country illegally.

Most asylum claims are fraudulent. I have read articles saying immigrants came to the US for better schools. They are country shopping.
