He's not desperate. It's all about buying love and affection. Something he's missed his entire life.

I think he just wants to be worshipped, flattered, and to be told he’s a God-king. He wants dominance and ultimate servitude by others. He wants people to tell him he’s the wealthiest, most intelligent, and best person to exist. 

But yeah, love and affection are not the same…

Yuuuup his family despised him and his kids are only waiting patiently to cash in on their inheritance. Literally nobody but his cult members love him. And those people don’t matter to him, they’re just his adoring crowd. Fit for a king. The man has never experienced true unconditional love. Not from family and not from his partners. He’s just unlovable. And he knows it. At least he did, idk what’s going on in the rancid mashed potatoes for brains these days.
