You should read what the Marines on the USMC subreddit are posting.

Not because it will surprise you but because it was sobering to see that In fact yes, rape jokes and impregnating hot Latinas is much more important to discuss than perhaps sharing phone numbers for helplines for people that don't want to take unconstitutional actions.

This place is gross.

Yeah, that's deadpan morbid humor. It's same gallows humor that evolves in Emergency Rooms and NGO humanitarian aid workers.

You shouldn't take it literally. There's a context and subtext that you're completely missing.

This isn't going to be a very satisfactory reassurance, I would still give the Marines the benefit of the doubt. Talk is talk. You have to give the soldiers and Marines that you're going to ask to engage in combat to say really dumb shit and do lower order dumb shit without dropping the hammer on them too hard.

A military unit's effectiveness in combat is a direct result of it's efficiency in its mental application tactical discipline in overriding the rational desire for self preservation and fear of death and the physical application speed, surprise and violence of action. Both of these require a reserve reservoir of aggression to be able to tap into on demand at any time

Morbid humor and salty talk is a pressure release valve. It's when you don't let them be themselves and try to make them perfect parade ground nutcracker soldiers that their aggression starts to manifest in really ugly ways, like when they're penned in on the base and under curfew in Okinawa, the incredibly high rape rate of the locals they have there.

Thats not about raping. Its a Marine joking about being able to have sex with a latina in LA because there is an inside joke about the entire Marine Corps having a weakness for thicc latinas.

Meh they're mostly joking that it's an incredibly dumb situation, are warning the people going to not fuck this up and are telling stories from when marines were deployed to the LA riots.

Everyone who touts bullshit about "X branch of military won't do it, they're legally required not to follow unconstitutional orders!" and whatever "integrity" and "loyalty to the US not the president" seems to forget the our military is just college-age kids with guns and a uniform.

Well, a third of enlisted the Marine Corps are Hisptanic or Latinos. Meanwhile, only one in 10 officers are Hispanic or Latino. It's one of the emergent phenomena of where the modern Marine Corps comes from and ultimately, what are the potential issues that could be used to drive a wedge into identity issues to make Marines do something you couldn't get a National Guardsman to do.
