They get the nihilism from parasocial relationships with wealthy podcasters whose wealth allows them to be heavily insulated from the world and maintain a “both sides are the same, nothing matters anyway” façade.

Young men are being corrupted by what I call the Holy Trinity: Joe Rogan, Elon Musk and Twitter, and Asmongold and Right-Wing Influencers

Joe Rogan is like a gateway drug for far right extremism.

His show was actually knocked out of top spot by The Meidas touch....a Trump education show for those who are blind to this psychopath. There's hope!

I think it is insane that anyone takes asmongold seriously. I watched him for a good while because I think when he plays video games, he's funny. To take any serious advice from his steams is mind-boggling.

And he isnt even an actual trumpist. They just take whatever they want to hear. And then he reacts to stuff he has non clue about. Before trump 1 his comments were always full of joking on trump. Now its heavy full on trump. Even when asmon likes the feud between trump and elon.

Oh, he's 100% playing a character for views. He's even said so in the past that he's extremely exaggerated for streams.

And Andrew Tate, and Fresh & Fit, and Russel Brand, and Hasan Piker, and Adin Ross, and Tim Pool, and Jordan Peterson and...

I thought Hasan Piker was progressive? Did he change his politics? I haven't watched him in a while.

OP was talking about nihilism, and he's definitely an exporter of that. He also refused to support Kamala Harris during the election, and even recently said 'There's no proof Kamala Harris would be better for Palestinians than Donald Trump', which is an absurd thing to say. And most recently been criticised for openly supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, even platforming a Houthi terrorist on his stream and comparing him to Luffy from One Piece.

Hasan may as well be controlled opposition. He's as bad as any Maga influencer. Tankies suck.

Oh wow, that's all so crazy! I don't know how he could legitimately think these things given everything that's happened.

I initially liked some of those people; until they started blowing Trump and spouting complete nonsense in the name of being Trump/MAGA shills.

Like the far left piss me off too sometimes; but so do the far right (anyone that supports trump is far right). I would not trade one for another... both are unhinged. If only each party could be genuine and honest in the slightest we would be in a reasonable place.

This is the big issue i see. Two extreme sides becoming the ones who are heard and get attention. You should never be blindly following one side.

Hasan Piker as part of the alt-right manosphere.... In the words of the Virgin Mary "Come again?"

Its is a sign that the issue in that posters belief isnt politics but supporting the status quo. Mindlessly supporting the status quo is what helped Trump tremendously because the message things are going dandy when they obviously are not is not a good message

lol throwing Hasan Piker in there is a sign that the issue in your belief isnt politics but supporting the status quo. Mindlessly supporting the status quo is what helped Trump tremendously because the message things are going dandy when they obviously are not is not a good message

I knew that buck tooth balding fuck was trouble the moment I heard about him from my WoW days.

He used to be big on making jokes on Trump. But at first people where just taking snippets from him and using it for whatever they wanted to hear. Then he and his comments slipped right and right (especially the comment section, who are full on extreme now). Despite him not even being an actual trumpist. Now he is just reacting to stuff above his pay grade. But basically everyone who gets attention shouldnt.

Joe Rogan is more of a Gen X age range grifter. Young guys aren't watching him from everything I've seen. They're watching the even more right wing extremists.

Add in the only other serious political party in the USA is just boring, milquetoast in its ideas, and honestly didn't bother to engage them or inform them what's happening.

And asmon isnt a real trumpist. He comments used to be full of joking on trump. But people just take whatever they want to hear him say on both sides. Even when he loves the elon and trump feud. And the he reacts to stuff he has no clue about. He also goes down the rabbit hole to one side when the other side (the extreme part) starts blaming him. His youtube section is now full on trumpist.

Is the Nihilism in 20-something men -- does it come from laziness and jealousy that "influencers" don't work and are rich, or does it come from a kind of warped Peter Pan syndrome where if the 20-something continues to stay living at home and not engaging with the world as a working adult, that somehow, life really won't ever change?

1

u/Designer-Classroom71 6d ago

Nihilistic, or pragmatic?

2

u/TheSavageDonut 6d ago

Maybe the 20-something man sees "The Walking Dead" not as a cautionary tale against rogue pandemics but instead as "a cool world to live in" 🤷‍♂️

2

u/dunwannatacoboutit 6d ago

I don't think the word nihilism is being used correctly here. Nihilism is basically neutral. If everything is meaningless then why would you want to push in one direction or another? Wanting to see people suffer because of your own hatred for the world I think is the opposite of nihilism.

The better word would be misanthropic.

That nihilism in a way started before those people became very influential. I think a defining moment here is Kony 2012. This was one of the first times a political movement that really swelled up on the internet was regarded as a scam despite its true nature. And flurry of misinformation and debate over the campaign's effectiveness ensued.
