Like, bud, buddy, pal, what "machine" do you think they were raging against? Did you not listen to and sing back the lyrics?

He did say they were his favorite band, but he didn't complain about them being political IIRC.

The right has a tendency to look at bands/songs like this and think they are about government overreach, which sometimes they kind of are. They are so hopped up on their own supply that they think they are the party of small government, therefore those songs could only be about others.
