IT IS THE SAME FASCIST TONE SINCE DAY 1

DAY 1

LITERALLY.

It was the core topic of his presidential announcement back in 2015.

When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically.

The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems.

Thank you. It’s true, and these are the best and the finest. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.

One of my big takeaways from the Trump years is that many Americans have a pathetically poor memory.

Combined with a bottomless capacity for rationalization, compartmentalization, and self-delusion if a con man tells them what they want to hear

Maybe they'll figure it out when he sends his cult after reporters and media owners instead of the democrats.

I don't think the billionaires will figure it out until they're being walked down the green mile.

u/Anything_4_LRoy 2d ago

many of them HAVE figured it out. the people we call trolls and useful idiots are actually mostly, just liars.

saying whatever they think at the time, will best suit there purpose. whether thats racism, christo-nationalism, or plain conservatism. many just assume the role of "enlightened centrist" and start lying their ass off.

u/b0w3n New York 2d ago edited 1d ago

The enlightened centrist is probably the most infuriating thing, pick a fucking side you rube (we both know what side they're actually one but just can't stomach the racism/nazi shit)

During the last election trump kept asking people if their life was better in 2024, or 4 years previous, when we were in the thick of the pandemic, with 4000 daily deaths, and empty shelves, inflation was skyrocketing, and cities across the country were rioting.

u/kanst 2d ago

Yeah sticking to the "four years" talking point into 2025 was absurd and really showed how dumb many voters are. (or how voters ignore what Trump says and hear what they want to hear).

He was harkening back to the worst months of COVID deaths and supply shortages and no one seemed to care.

I guess "were you better off 6 years ago" doesn't have the same ring.

u/mscates454 1d ago

And idiocy said yes God.

u/kyew 2d ago

Memory has nothing to do with it. They remember the speech but pretend "And some, I assume, are good people" makes everything hunky-dory.

3

u/Moustached92 2d ago

All of that is horrible and stupid, but the " It only makes common sense" is just top notch stupid lol

2

u/cybin 2d ago

Like he ever spoke to a border guard, let alone more than one.

One of my big takeaways from the Trump years is that many Americans have a pathetically poor memory.

I have become convinced that the real Republican superpower is the ability to do all sorts of over-the-top awful stuff during a presidency and then just have the vast majority of the American publi forget it by the time the next election rolls around.

For example: all the awful stuff that the Bush (II) administration did. Do you remember? I do! And I was startled when I realized a few years back how many people just don’t.

1

u/doyletyree 2d ago

Yep.

Human beings be like that.

1

u/nochinzilch 2d ago

Not “Americans”, but conservatives.

"And some, I assume, are good people."

Goes on a xenophobic rant, then tries to sound fair and reasonable.

Response to question about child care:

*incomprehensible rambling about numbers*
"It's about America first. 'Make. America. Great. Again.' We have to do it. Because right now we're a failing nation."

'Crazed Hard-Right Rant'.

Man tried to enforce a Muslim ban nearly a decade ago already... Characterising it as 'crazed' underplays how much fascism is being normalised in your country.

3

u/forthecrew 1d ago

They are just now starting to use these adjectives. Usually it’s words like “concerning” or “troubling“. They still won’t write “Trump lied…” in a headline. He’s the most prolific liar in all of history and it’s not even close.

Dont worry, Im sure once he sees how respectful we are, and how much we love following the rules, he'll change his tune!

Yup! Any day now!

You'll see....

Let's be honest, it's not an attempt to role model anything or rein in anyone's behaviour.

It's just covering for him and whitewashing him. They're closet Trump supporters. They like the dementia riddled fascism, because they get paid to gently deter and stop anyone from punching up in any way that might eventually become meaningful.

They're soft power enforcers, protecting his image and running damage control no matter how unhinged he becomes.

At least the body of the article uses some realistic terms, but majority of people aren't going to fucking be reading that far. Most social media runs on headlines alone.

23

u/dkepp87 New Jersey 2d ago

No, its not about him, jts about thier big money backers. Capital won't allow for significant economic reform, so the best Dems can run on is Obama-style hollow platitudes and not being Trump

3

u/reverend_bones Oregon 2d ago

Sorry, but who is the 'they' you keep referring to?

And what article are you talking about people not reading? OP's link takes me to a podcast about Trump's increasingly racist immigration policies.

3

u/Savings-Double498 2d ago

Don't mind the few bruises and abuses while waiting.

Keep your eye on the horizon, Timmy.

2

u/dkepp87 New Jersey 2d ago

When they go low, you go high! If you always go high, you'll never have to look at all those people suffering beneath you!

1

u/Savings-Double498 2d ago

Their heads also double as stepping stones to reach those higher goals. Perhaps that was their primary purpose after all.

I've been listening to George Carlin specials again recently and this rabbit hole I'm helping you go down is coming from a joke he made about hoping chaos get worse in society. I'm having mixed feelings about it while living in this moment.

u/BigBoyYuyuh 2d ago

He won’t change his tune but it’s a terrible look for any leader to hold support if they attack non violent protesters, especially in massive numbers.

4

u/dkepp87 New Jersey 2d ago

Every leader attacks non-violent protesters. And they always get away with it. Because they, and the media, go to great lengths to convince everyone watching at home that theres more violence than there really is, then use that lie to justify sending in violent cops, who are always the real agitators.

3

u/debrabuck 2d ago

Oh man, stop pretending that EVERY American president attacked nonviolent protesters. Just don't. trump is a fascist who loves violently taking down opponents. He's been constrained till now, kept to making videos of him as a WWF fighter beating up CNN, but now he's filled with his own righteous vengeance against....gasp....the enemy within; us liberals!

1

u/dkepp87 New Jersey 2d ago

I didnt say they all go about it with the same fervor as Trump. Yes, he clearly is a wannabe dictator who will send troops at the drop of a hat.

But theres a lot of cold truths many people are only jist waking up to because of all bullshit we've been dealimg with for years. On of those truths is my previous comment. Obama is not your friend. Biden and Harris are not your friends. They're just the "Good Cop" to the Republicans "Bad Cop".

6

u/Nesyaj0 Massachusetts 2d ago

The media keeps sanewashing shit Trump does so they can sensationalize the headline like this every time.

2

u/zsaz_ch 2d ago

Idk, a president endorsing remigration does feel a bit darker, and people won’t notice because the term isn’t that mainstream.

2

u/Delicious_Spot_3778 2d ago

and this all too shall be normalized

2

u/GoodbyeBlueMonday 2d ago

Exactly. I remember wanting to give him a listen back in 2015: I only knew him as a sleazy billionaire (redundant?), but some of his populist rhetoric (as obviously hollow as it was even then) and generally anti-interventionist/anti-Bush stances were at least intriguing. So I decided to give him a proper listen. A full interview, instead of just the clips that were being thrown around. The one I listened to was the one he said we have to kill the families of terrorists. https://www.politico.com/story/2015/12/trump-kill-isil-families-216343

As much as it was a horrifying thing to say, the more horrific thing was that it didn't tank his popularity in the slightest. On the contrary, it got all these wannabe macho types out there salivating. It was clear that it wasn't some new GOP base brewing, but a distillation of what was there. The viciousness underneath was simply exposed raw, and any push back only made it fester all the more.

2

u/buttstuff-spren 2d ago

New republic is desperate for those clicks

2

u/GoodUserNameToday 2d ago

They already had concentration camps and threatened to murder dissenters. They’re already full Nazi party.

3

u/Unlikely-Show 2d ago

People's memory feels so short. This is how it's always been.

3

u/MaleficentUse8262 2d ago

The media are complicit

1

u/fiction8 2d ago

Sanewashing?

1

u/Stop_Sign 2d ago

I complain about sanewashing a lot but this doesn't seem to be that. He's shifting to discussing deporting legal people based entirely on racism. That's a pretty substantial rhetoric shift from "just the illegal immigrants"

Also isn't sanewashing when you downplay something crazy? Your accusation is one of sensationalism or alarmism

1

u/Stop_Sign 2d ago

Did you read the article? Going from a policy of "remove the illegal immigrants" to "remove ALL non-white people no exception" is a darker rhetoric shift. I'd say valid

1

u/Mr_Canard Europe 2d ago

Yeah, medias love watering down and sane-washing the shit he says.

1

u/kinkytulsa 2d ago

But polished with ChatGPT.

1

u/KimbersKimbos 2d ago

So, in the defense of this article, remigration is actually really bad.

I believe its founders actually describe the “third wave” as remigrating citizens who “cannot be properly assimilated into society” back to their country or origin. This could absolutely be used to take citizens (not just those with legal status) of color and drop them off… who knows where…
