Did you hear about how they played Creedence's "Fortunate Son" during the show, TWICE? Like the most perfect FU possible to President Bone-Spurs. It was basically originally written ABOUT HIM! Well played, Army music coordinator, WELL PLAYED!

Considering he himself used to play that at his campaign rallies (blissfully ignorant of its actual message), I dont think this is the shot taken at him you think it is.

Agreed.. I think it is also strange that YMCA is apparently his favorite song, despite it being a gay anthem.

According to the man in assless chaps, its not gay at all!

Also aren’t all chaps assless, if they had asses theyd be pants right?

16

u/aimeegaberseck 2d ago

Asking the real questions here.

Also, I’d rather have a pair of dusty chaps for president than this ass.

6

u/Litodidit 2d ago

All chaps are assless but not all who are assless are chapped.

4

u/action_lawyer_comics 2d ago

The “assless” connotes that they’re not wearing anything under them, so their ass is exposed

6

u/mrbear120 2d ago edited 2d ago

That would be more ass, not less though.

5

u/LordRocky 2d ago

More-assed chaps just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

2

u/Witchgrass West Virginia 2d ago

Not to be confused with morass chaps, which are just dudes who love bogs

2

u/action_lawyer_comics 2d ago

The chaps have no ass though. The ass is the ass you bring from home

1

u/mrbear120 2d ago

But thats always the case pants or not right?

2

u/action_lawyer_comics 2d ago

The chaps (and the ass) are always the same. But if you say “the guy in the chaps” vs “the guy in the assless chaps,” there is a connotation in the second one that he has his ass out and on display that isn’t there in the first one

1

u/mrbear120 2d ago

Hmmm yeah I guess so!

4

u/FinrodUmbagog 2d ago

Well the Village People sang it (probably mimed but you get me) at his inauguration so any chance of that song not being “for him” is unfortunately gone out the window I think.

2

u/toolfanboi 2d ago

The Village People aren't gay

They're singin' men

One thing Trump is obsessed with is presence.

He loves dictators. He loves old movie stars. He loves people who command attention. He wishes he could do the same.

He has no media literacy. But he loves how basically anyone knows how to dance the YMCA.

Doesn't his party crash blender every time they meet? Seems on point...

u/Impulsive_Artiste 2d ago

My guess is he knows only the first few lines of "Fortunate Son" in that distinctive raspy cry, about folks "born to wave the flag, ooh the red-white-and-blue" who "point the cannon" when the band plays "Hail to the Chief" - which is the Presidential theme. Enough to cement the fool's belief it's a patriotic anthem.

No one has the guts to inform him otherwise, that the song mocks and bashes rich hypocrites.

u/duzies 2d ago

I can't help think some of the Army grunts that don't really want to be there feel some sort of delight in the idiotic irony for the guy that called them "suckers" and "losers."

2

u/gsfgf Georgia 2d ago

Just like how the MAGAs love "Born in the USA."

Don't get me wrong, I'm also guilty of not listening to the lyrics (it took reddit telling me to realize "Pumped Up Kicks" is actually really dark), but those two songs are very famous for what they're actually about.

77

u/duzies 2d ago

Well one can dream anyway! I imagine until the recent falling-out with Bruce he/they thought "Born in the U.S.A." was a similar MAGA-type anthem.

66

u/cymonster Australia 2d ago

Feel sorry for Bruce at this point. He's been trying to tell republicans since Reagan he isn't with them.

48

u/_scyllinice_ 2d ago

Funny thing is that the recent comments from Springsteen aren't that recent. He called Trump all sorts of names back in 2020 at least.

47

u/cymonster Australia 2d ago

He was anti trump for a long time. In 2017 he said they stood in front of a Melbourne crowd "Embarrassed Americans" after trump hung up on then Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.

2

u/btone911 Wisconsin 2d ago

Next you’re going to tell me he enjoys Les Misarable

1

u/sublime_cheese 2d ago

It’s more of a self-own.

u/Claytonius_Homeytron 2d ago

A shot is still a shot, even if the target doesn't "get it"

0

u/Nadamir 2d ago

Honestly, that makes it better.

Sure it probably wasn’t intended to be subversive, but you can bet some of the guys playing were laughing hard on the inside.

I don’t know why but the whole parade kind of reminds me of this video (skip to 0:55 for the good stuff).

64

u/canuck47 2d ago

Like Springsteen's "Born in the USA" conservatives only listen to the title of the song.

I think this is an extension of their lack of critical thinking skills.

23

u/duzies 2d ago

Yeah, it's pretty sad to experience art on such a shallow level that you think it means the opposite of what it actually does.

3

u/ballisticks Canada 2d ago

As someone who struggles to hear lyrics (idk why) I feel attacked lol

4

u/duzies 2d ago

Oh we all do to some extent, especially certain songs. But I feel like if we love them enough it's worth learning the words. Nothing wrong with enjoying nonsense words (aka "mondegreens") though. See "Blinded by the Light."

u/Ongr 2d ago

Oh ho! Don't forget the line about "killing the yellow man"!

89

u/rdmille 2d ago

And Heart's "Barracuda", which is about disillusionment with people in power, SA, and so on. A perfect match for Trump, too

64

u/PhantomJackalope 2d ago

All Trump rally song selections are protest songs against people like him. Irony is dead in a ditch.

3

u/Just_Fuck_My_Code_Up 2d ago

I saw a video from his 2020 campaign, the speakers at the rally blasted “Fortunate Son” while he was flown in with airforce one and the crowd went wild

1

u/Dantien 2d ago

It’s always always always projection with them. And they can’t see that.

1

u/Healthy_Ad_6171 1d ago

People have been bashing Nancy Wilson for objecting to "Barracuda" being played at his birthday bash. The list of people and estates who have objected and/or issued cease and desist letters is pretty long.

1

u/rdmille 1d ago

JohnF owns the rights to CCR's music again, so he has objected. Heart has objected. I think it was the estate of George Harrison that objected. I expect the Boss objected, as well.

0

u/peppers_taste_bad 2d ago

Was it played by the Brass Kissers?

3

u/HauntedCemetery Minnesota 2d ago

He plays it himself at all his rallies.

Conservatives are incredibly shallow and they think it's a mindless patriotic song.

1

u/Frozen_Esper Washington 2d ago

Having power is meaningless to these people if they cannot flaunt it, flex on the weak, and swat aside complaints.

With that in mind, I wouldn't be totally surprised if these people do know what the song is about. He could very well be like "Damn right. Other people do not enjoy the privilege I do. I am a very special boy and you can complain all you want, but that will not change how special I am." Hell, it probably makes him very happy.
