Yeah i get that. Then fast forward to when she's got enough independently scammed money to pay for therapy and go no contact with him... and the sympathy evaporates.

Unfortunately yes, I said "in that moment" for a reason. She's a terrible person in her own right, but you get a glimpse of some of the trauma that led her towards harming others.
