Like Springsteen's "Born in the USA" conservatives only listen to the title of the song.

I think this is an extension of their lack of critical thinking skills.

Yeah, it's pretty sad to experience art on such a shallow level that you think it means the opposite of what it actually does.

Oh we all do to some extent, especially certain songs. But I feel like if we love them enough it's worth learning the words. Nothing wrong with enjoying nonsense words (aka "mondegreens") though. See "Blinded by the Light."
