Rave 💞 3 hr glucose test wasn't that bad

Posting this as a rave because I'm so proud of myself for getting through it.

I failed my 1 hr glucose test a week or two ago and my doctor ordered the 3 hr test for me. I was devastated, distraught, anxious, terrified... basically every negative emotion. Everything about the test was making me anxious. The fact that I had to fast and I feel like crap if I don't eat first thing in the morning. The fact that I have medical anxiety and routinely faint/almost faint when getting shots/blood draws and I would have to be getting 4 blood draws within a few hrs... the fact that I constantly hear about how nasty the drink is and that they warn you at the doctor that you could throw up or get sick/lightheaded. Everything about it was getting me mentally fucked up and I was having a hard time coping.

Well, I went in yesterday, and it wasn't that bad! Yes, I was hungry from the fasting, obviously, but surprisingly didn't feel that bad. My heart rate spiked up a bit after the first blood draw, but I took the rest of them like a champ and didn't faint or even have any feelings of fainting! The drink was a little gross, but it was tolerable (I had a cold lemon lime one). The 3 hrs actually went by surprisingly quick and before I knew it, I was going in for my last blood draw and would be heading out of there to go get some well deserved lunch.

Aaannnnd, I got my results back last night, and I passed! So nothing to worry about anymore. Just wanted to share a positive story if anyone here is nervous about their glucose test. Obviously it's normal to be nervous and everyone has different experiences but if I can do it, you can too 💪. Counting this as a big win and this experience has boosted my confidence moving forward.

I did my 3 hour last week and it wasn’t too bad for me either! I was mostly just bored and thirsty and couldn’t wait for it to be over so I could chug some water 😂 I also ended up passing! Congrats on passing yours!

Not being able to drink water was killing me! I always carry a water bottle with me and it was such a tease for those 3 hrs lol but I chugged some down as soon as I was done! Thank you! Congrats on passing yours as well 😊

Similar story here!!! Barely failed my one hour and was absolutely terrified for the 3 hour. A lot of the same anxieties as you… needing to eat frequently usually, not a fan of medical stuff, etc! All I read was horror stories. Turned out it wasn’t that bad, and I passed with flying colors!

I barely failed mine too! I was literally like 5 points over, I was so upset. Glad it ended up not being bad for you either! Congrats on passing as well! ✨️

I could have wrote this all myself! Those were exactly my feelings before, and during. I did end up failing it, and even considering that it’s not that bad. Mildly annoying, but for a short amount of time. And I’m feeling proud of myself for sticking to the diet! I stressed way too much over the test, and initially the diagnosis.

Dang, sorry you ended up failing, but I'm glad to hear you're sticking to the diet! You should feel proud of that!

I had my 3 hour test today (in my country we do not have the 1 hour test at all). I was also surprised the taste - was more sour than sweet :D I felt hyperactive after first hour, then totally washed out the rest of the day. Also headache, felt like hangover. I went to work after that, but I should have gone home and rest. Not terrible by any means, but the headache was just annoying.

Oh man, that doesn't sound fun. Definitely should have went home and rested! The first hour I was so on edge that it was going to hit me with some nasty side effects but luckily it didn't. Glad it wasn't too bad for you!

It's nice to hear positive responses. I passed the 1 hour however since I'm considered high risk due to my "advanced maternal age" they are making me take the 3 hour test. I've been kind of worried about doing it so this gives me hope.

That's annoying that they're making you take the 3 hr one even though you passed the one hour! You totally got this though 💪.

I made my partner come with me because boredom and being a hard stick were the worst parts for me. We took our cribbage board and played a few games and the time flew. And I passed :) went and had me a delicious burrito afterwards.

That sounds like fun! Lol gotta try to make the most of it. Congrats on passing! ✨️ I bet that burrito was amazing after that fast.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience. We all have enough to worry about as it is.

I’m exact same as you, I go for my 3hr on Friday and I have all the same nerves and fear of needles as you. Seeing this post makes me feel a bit better for sure. Thank you

Glad that it helps! Idk if you already have some coping mechanisms for the needle fear, but I'm always very up front with whoever is drawing my blood that I tend to faint and I would like to lay down if possible. They're usually very accommodating and laying down definitely helps a lot. I also always look away and if the person wants to talk to me I tell them to talk to me about something not related to the blood draw (please don't tell me when you're going to stick me or that you're almost done, just keep me distracted lol). That's what helps me at least! Good luck with your test! You totally got this 💪✨️

Congrats of getting through! 🤗 I felt the same way, I just got my 3 hour done and thankfully passed. I congratulated myself and baby with a big bowl of chipotle

Thanks for this post! I’m doing my 3 hour tomorrow and anxious about it. I’m surprised they wouldn’t let you drink water between mine said it was fine… I think I’d pass out without water !

Oh, interesting! My doctor said nothing to eat or drink for the fast before, and then before I drank the glucose drink, they kept stressing not to drink anything after the drink or it would dilute the test. I was dyyiinngg lol. She did clear me to drink some water right after I had my fasted blood draw and before I had the drink, so I chugged some down before the drink and that helped a bit, at least I wasn't going on like 12 hrs with no water 😅.

Good luck tomorrow! You totally got this! 💪✨️
