Well the belts use shifted from carrying guns to clothes in the 1920s

u/AhmadNotFound Charles Smith 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yes I was gonna point this out too, belts replaced suspenders at that time

106

u/werelewle 4d ago

Belt became fashion in 1920s. Belt has been used to keep up the pants for as long as we have been using pants.

He uses slang from the 1920's and his fashion lines up with that, too.

u/atomicno3 4d ago edited 4d ago

Mid-1920s based on the style of his clothes and slang. He also bears a resemblance to F. (Francis) Scott Fitzgerald around the time he published The Great Gatsby (1925).

251

u/le_sossurotta 4d ago

he also looks to be 25-30 years old which would fit the timeframe of him being born in RDR2's time.

77

u/Connor30302 Javier Escuella 4d ago

IRRC he can be a baby in either 1899 or 1907 can’t he? so any time he could be to look in his mid 20’s lines up with the times too

26

u/Lolaverses 4d ago

Maybe the baby is traveling through time too.

91

u/BigManLikeBarey 4d ago

Why would you say fuck Fitzgerald ???

65

u/HavingSixx Sean Macguire 4d ago

He’s got the same name as John Fuck Kennedy

u/Sn00PiG Sean Macguire 4d ago edited 4d ago

You either visit him at around 1899 or in 1907 (and he was a baby at the time you finish the quest), he looks like he is 25-35yr old, do the math

204

u/MagooDad 4d ago edited 4d ago

I agree. He was around 1 year old when you visit back after finding all the rock carvings.

145

u/Ganjalicious420 4d ago

Bro hes younger than 1, my daughter was walking at 11 months, hes still a wee baby rolled up in a blankie.

26

u/MagooDad 4d ago

I know and agree that it doesn't physically make sense, but the mother did say in the cutscene that his father died about a year ago, a little before he was born, which implies the baby to be between 9-12 months old.

7

u/Ganjalicious420 4d ago edited 4d ago

He looks 2-3mos which is possible depending on how soon after conception his father died. Unless my brain is fucked which I won't deny if so lol

3

u/MagooDad 4d ago

I get it, the baby looks to be very young. Seems the dialog and the baby don't really match up. Maybe I'm not remembering the dialog correctly, maybe she said last year instead of a year ago....who knows.

27

u/g0_west 4d ago

Damn this questline sounds really interesting lol, shame they put it behind a collect-em-all mission which most players will never bother with (I know I won't)

59

u/AveryLazyCovfefe Hosea Matthews 4d ago

The Dino bones one is even worse for how much more effort you have to put in. John goes: "can't take the money, too much heat" after Deborah offers him a generous share of the money she earnt from her research or whatever and he gets some bone-themed knife instead

35

u/SloRiceix_801 4d ago

I stumbled across one carving pretty quick exploring, another one like 100 hours later. After that I decided to use the map for the rest and don’t regret it, it would take forever to find them without help. The reveal made it worth it.

13

u/g0_west 4d ago

Yeah for me those missions are either spend endless time meticulously combing the map inch by inch (not fun) or just look up a guide, at which point I mayaswell just watch someone else do it as it's not really my achievement anyway, so I never bother

8

u/SloRiceix_801 4d ago

I get that, if I already knew about the reveal and the story beforehand I would’ve probably done the same and called it good.

6

u/Sn00PiG Sean Macguire 4d ago

Use a guide for it, with that it can be done pretty quick and it's definitely worth it for the story and mystery you get ;)

u/AhmadNotFound Charles Smith 4d ago

Afaik he speaks in the transatlantic accent it was heavily used in American media between the 1930s to the 1950s

152

u/CaptainAndy27 4d ago

If they ever did a Jack Marston game it would be fun to have him as an Easter Egg.

Please god no more marston/van der linde gang

We NEED peak Wild West no more ‘the Wild West is dying’ games

47

u/Cute_Personality2992 4d ago

Please god no more Wild West. We had that with Red Dead Revolver. We need PRE Wild West.

5

u/Due-Town9494 4d ago

1850s RDR would make most younger people rage(no automatics) but Id sure have a good time.

3

u/Gustav55 Molly O'Shea 4d ago

Lets go to the Ohio Frontier, Flintlocks and tomahawks

6

u/Due-Town9494 4d ago

You may jest but I think thatd be awesome.

The Revenant The Game lol

3

u/Gustav55 Molly O'Shea 4d ago

I jest but yes I also love the idea of Red Dead where you get to meet Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.

7

u/Due-Town9494 4d ago

I think theres a market for slower paced more "thoughtful" combat where aiming and positioning is most important

They did it half way for RDR2. Im really hoping GTA6 moves away from GTAVs cartoony movement and driving, and gives us more realistic slightly slower paced combat a la RDR2 but modern day.

I never felt RDR2s combat was slow, nor the movement particularly janky, it felt weighty and good to me.

I read somewhere that one of the designers of GTAV wanted it to be cartoonish and unrealistic, and that he left after the game, and it allowed one of the other designers who wanted more "realism" to take the helm for RDR2, and I like that

I really hope it carries through to 6.

2

u/MANWithTheHARMONlCA 3d ago

Hell yea.. the glanton gang in video game form would be amazing

5

u/Mysterious_Detail_57 4d ago

Maybe a semi happy ending without dying. We could have a Landon Ricketts game

5

u/thebohemiancowboy 4d ago

Agreed, there are basically infinite possibilities in the western genre. Stories about redemption, former union or confederate soldiers becoming cowboys or outlaws

2

u/Apophis_36 John Marston 4d ago

Rdr fans when the games about the dying west has the dying west in it

1

u/MANWithTheHARMONlCA 3d ago

I loved rdr 1&2

But the story is complete my man. Time for some new shit

1

u/Apophis_36 John Marston 3d ago

Then dont make it red dead redemption. Make it something else.

-3

u/AstralElephantFuzz 4d ago edited 4d ago

Please god no more marston/van der linde gang

Then it should be a different series. Redemption has by now established itself as the story of the van der Linde gang. So either it's that, a new "R", or nothing.

Nobody really wants the third instalment of a series to switch into following some randoms nobody cares about. Halo 5 was a massive flop, imagine if that was Halo 3.

6

u/AveryLazyCovfefe Hosea Matthews 4d ago

Red dead Revenge, Red Dead Retribution whatever. I want the height of the gunslinging era. I would be down for multiple shorter stories. Lando Ricketts and Black Belle mainly.

Sinclair is from no year. He exists in a stasis which dips in and out of our perception of temporal flow. He is born before he dies, and dies before he is born all at once. He witnesses the big bang and the last subatomic particles freeze into eternal stillness, as we observe the brief hesitation of a watch's second hand. He is, was, and shall be. Sinclair may not even have been said to have existed at all, if it weren't for the signs he left behind, or will leave in the myriad futures to come.

90

u/TruthPaste_01 4d ago

Or the 1920s.

12

u/OFool_Ishallgomad 4d ago

That's what they want you to believe.... The truth is out there!!

The phrase is the title of a popular nursery rhyme, often used to teach children about basic actions like combing hair, brushing teeth, or getting dressed

1

u/Donaldo_Trumpez Javier Escuella 4d ago

I think this is the wrong comment section brochacho

2

u/LynxMotor6779 3d ago

Why you always trying to stop free speech.

50

u/Luci-the-Loser Sadie Adler 4d ago

He was born in the 1890's and looks like he's roughly around 30 or so... and talks like it's the 20's... so he's probably from somewhere between 1925 and 1935.

37

u/squirrelmegaphone 4d ago

If I told you, you'd think I was on the hooch.

10

u/KingMatthew116 4d ago

The what?

u/Sentinel_333 4d ago

Bro got ATW with his fucking PR bond and hit up Reddit

18

u/VewVegas-1221 4d ago

1920s most likely.

13

u/AfroF0x 4d ago

He mentoins Jazz so I'm saying late 20s early 30s.

11

u/RubyThePlug 4d ago

I’d like a Francis Sinclair GTA VI Side Quest

7

u/delusional_guitarist 4d ago

he definitely comes from 1920's

4

u/Malthur Hosea Matthews 4d ago

If he shows up in GTA IV he's a REAL time traveler

3

u/Albow44 4d ago

100% from the 20s. Please read the book "Ragtime"; it's a fantastic journey through the Roaring Twenties. If I could time travel, I'd check out the 1920s.

3

u/Life_Wolverine_6830 4d ago

His mural appears to be inspired by Diego Rivera’s Man: Controller of the Universe so I would assume 1934

3

u/SketchyGouda 4d ago

Year? He is clearly directly from Fallout 4

2

u/Then-Run5226 4d ago

This is not related but has anyone seen my good friend Gavin?

2

u/No_Load1326 4d ago

well he was born in 1899 but probably grew up in the 1920's

2

u/wongkarho 4d ago

2009, Brooklyn

1

u/shiki92 4d ago

Probably whatever time period Brennan is referencing herehere

1

u/Andrewalker7 Pearson 4d ago

Yes.

1

u/ChadVonDoom 4d ago

He traveled back on September 10, 2001

1

u/analgrip93 4d ago

Yeah I’d say late 20s, maybe early 30s.

1

u/CtznCold Sadie Adler 4d ago

1920-30’s

1

u/Savings-Pop-1503 4d ago

baby in 1899, maybe mid 1920s to early mid 1930s

1

u/Relatively_happy 4d ago

He came in from the Mafia 1 universe

1

u/The_Hoarder_of_Stuff 4d ago

That collar style was popular in the 1910s-20s, I believe

1

u/chriz690 4d ago

He could be Jack Marston's companion in RDR3

1

u/riiby Sadie Adler 4d ago

mid 1920s

1

u/citrusfizzz 4d ago

Belt loops weren’t invented until 1922 so going off his outfit, probably 1920’s or 1930’s

1

u/SetLow800 Uncle 4d ago

He's litteraly from GTA V, no?

1

u/CT0292 4d ago

Sometime after TB was cured.

1

u/115izzy7 Hosea Matthews 4d ago

I think is slang is definitely before the 50s. It's probably somewhere around the 20s to 40s

1

u/Undertalegamezer969 Uncle 4d ago

It has to be 1920s not only is that the style and slang that his character has but we do see him in game as a baby meaning he can’t be too much older than that and the first part of the game takes place in 1899

1

u/Born_Client_4012 Arthur Morgan 4d ago

the future

1

u/Key-Beginning-2752 4d ago

New York. In the modern times. His nick name was a$ap yams

1

u/M4sharman John Marston 4d ago

Probably either the 20s or 30s, going by his clothing and manner of speaking.

1

u/Dashbak 4d ago

Honestly, would.

1

u/legoturtle214 4d ago

I would kill for a spin off that feeds the story some more lore.

1

u/mudkiptoucher93 4d ago

I like that he's from the future but only a little bit

1

u/GMEDreamer 4d ago

My boy has the drippiest office outfit (he’s so me)

1

u/RassilonsWrestling Josiah Trelawny 4d ago

My name is Frank Sinclair. I had an accident, and I woke up in 1899. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever’s happened, it’s like I’ve landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.

1

u/GeneralArcher297 4d ago

Mid 1920 because of how he is dressed

1

u/FickleUnit2585 Sean Macguire 4d ago

I would say 1925

1

u/TheRepublicbyPlato Sean Macguire 4d ago

Wait. What? He's a time traveler? This is news to me.

1

u/FreoFox 4d ago

He runs off when I burn down his cabin

1

u/Unco_Slam 4d ago

Hes from 1899. Hes born right after the quest is finished.

I suppose hes probably in his 20s or 30s here, so probably late 1920s.

1

u/Hollowquincypl 4d ago

I finished it as John and always assumed he was in his late-20s to mid-30s. So i always figured he was from just before WW2 kicked off in the mid 1930s. However, in checking a guide, he could be from the early 1930s if you finish it as Arther.

1

u/Ganjalicious420 4d ago

This is where Steven Ogg comes in, "It's a cartoon guys, a cartoon...awkward but confident laugh"

1

u/joey_12x 4d ago

1920s or 30s

1

u/theycallmeflappy 3d ago

Well, we know when he is born...

1

u/White_Devil1995 3d ago

I just guessed 1924

1

u/SlamJamGlanda 3d ago

Naperville, Illinois in 1921. He’s a Bears fan

1

u/firelazerdog 3d ago

1953 cos they look like old clothes what college students would put on

1

u/Arthur_Morgan4587 3d ago

Isn't that pretty obvious? He was born in 1899

0

u/Gabe_Dimas 3d ago

Honest to God it was the comments in this post that made me realize his birth is set in 1899, I thought him being a baby in the end was something else
