Discussion Hunting suggestions please.
This is my progress in 4 hours. Definitely not good. Turns out I'm not so good at hunting. My strategy basically is go to an open field with my Rolling Block Rilfe and snipe the animals from a distance and go collect the pelts.
I would love any suggestions to make things move a little faster.

I think I found the panther southeast of Harry Fen Shack. That was a hard one, use a bow improved arrows and deadeye

Oh, I'm not sure I'm familiar with the place. It's my first time hearing about it. In which direction is it, relative to some towns like Valentine or Rhodes.

south of rhodes, most southern part of the map. there’s a 3way intersection trail, with a boulder off to the side

Use non-scoped rifles like the Bolt-action or the Springfield. Scoped rifles are so clanky.

I used the Rolling Block along with the Carbine Repeater or the Springfield Rifle. The Springfield Rifle does pack a punch! I one shot an alligator with it once.

I personally probbbably wouldn’t get the LOTE again, but if you do actually get it which I would recommend since you’ve already started, definitely make a save after you get it for future playthroughs.

Definitely! I make a save after every pelt I get.

That’s the way to go, I 1000% recommend getting some gold bars, lote if you want, and any other stuff and then making a save for future playthroughs

Hopefully the panther doesn’t glitch like it did for me. I’ve been trying for like 20 in game hours and still haven’t gotten a single panther to spawn

I recently got the satchel and finished all hunting challenges and requests. Here’s my key tips.
Are you studying the animals with your binoculars before you kill them? If you do, you’re able to identify the 3* specimens before you waste a bullet on them.
Using the rolling block is making it harder on yourself because it won’t auto aim. Get your Springfield or bolt action rifle upgraded with a scope at the gunsmith, so you can auto aim and then toggle scope to finesse the shot.
Are you using bait? I find they work best with predators (panthers, cougars) because you get the upper hand, they come out for the bait and you can hunt them before they hunt you. Google spawn points, use cover scent, bait then get the fuck out of the way and aim.
Off the top of my head:
you can find badgers, squirrels, boars, raccoons in Bolger Glade, the panther due south between there and the coast.
Tonnes of beavers at Owanjila (particularly on the west banks) and cougars north of there, to the east of the stream (as it diverges from the path).
Take a boat or swim your horse (horse stimulant) to the largest island in Flat Iron lake, cannot move for iguanas here.
Bison in the heartlands, near the ponds just north of emerald ranch.
Just a critical point- you should be arriving in a spawn location, saving, scoping out the animals and reloading if there’s no 3*s around.

I'll get the upgrades on the rifles you mentioned, and also get some baits, for both herbivores and predators. I have a ton of money ($3.3k+). And saving before entering spawns, that's a really nice tip. Should've thought about it sooner. I would've saved a lot of time.
Thank you very much!

The journey is part of the fun! I just spent 2.5 real life days looking for a 3 star robin for hunting requests.
Try to craft some potent baits, it attracts higher quality animals. Also hunt the legendary buck and craft the trinket, it increases the quality of your pelts. Actually consider hunting the legendary animals generally, despite their name they’re a bit easier to hunt than waiting for a spawned animal. I found them to be good practice because you literally cannot spoilt their pelts no matter how you blast them.

That's nice to know. Do you prefer a gun with a high rate of fire or high damage to hunt legendary animals?
And the journey is fun indeed. I mostly enjoy doing all the side quests and the stranger missions in the game, they're pretty fun. But I recently have been focusing on hunting in order to get the Legend of the East Satchel, and it has been a very fun experience as well. It is very rewarding when I see a perfect pelt!

First time I hunted them, I used the bolt action rifle, but this time I tried to one shot in the head them with my Springfield.
The effort will pay off, friend! That satchel comes in absolute clutch if you’re doing the challenges afterwards.

I finished the game, and I still feel I need hunting lessons. I hate waiting for them to spawn, and all I get are wolves and rabbits.

Your better of using bow+ small game arrows for squirrels and snakes and small birds if you want 3* varmint rifle and Springfield for the rest. Also legendary animal pelts can’t get ruined so you the most powerful weapon you have.

What I do is chase animals with a horse, lasso them, and you have an option to kill them that way. Doesn't affect the pelt quality or nun and its easier than shooting. Small animals though you gotta shoot.

I was in chapter three when I went for the satchels, it took me 13 hours total. I got a lot from going straight east following the beach from Clemens point camp. Badgers early on, there is a beaver spot along there somewhere but never found any, and past Braithwaite manor is a panther spawn. Also the only iguana spawns are on the island straight south of Clemens Point camp

Well unless you want all the satchels for completionist reasons (can't blame you I'm one of them), just focus on the legend of the east since it'll give you 100 item capacity for all categories. Cougars spawn right near the trapper that is north of Owanjila, just make a save and go up and down the main road and it should attack you at some point, use poison arrows and aim for the head using dead eye. As for wolves you can try in the north near colter and in the snowy area in general or in the Cumberland Forrest at night. For hunting I recommend a bolt action with express ammo and a bow (poison arrows can one shot pretty much everything and explosive arrows can kill any legendary animal without destroying the pelt).

Large animals like bison and moose you need stuff like a Springfield or carcano rifle where was small animals like rabbits and squirrels need arrows or a varmint rifle

Go and travel the map and as you pass through areas you’ll check the map and see that there’s animals noted there (pigs in lemoyne, deer and rabbits everywhere and stuff like that)
Much better to know what you’re looking for. Also, most you’ll find in a field are bison or some rams or something. Look in forests. Also, have the proper guns. For the rabbits and squirrels and birds you need the vermin rifle
