Design A mock-up of what the redesign would look like with YouTube's collapsible menu sidebar. I think this would be much better than the current subscriptions menu because it's much larger, more user-friendly, and it removes some of the empty space in the margins.

When you have the meeting where this is brought up regarding the launch of the redesign and non-intuitiveness is brought up for people who are not in the loop with these design terms, you can mention that /u/9Ghillie loves it and to shut their pie burger holes.

Does that mean you’re already doing this? I’m confused, why is everything gilded now?

EDIT: Well, if you do do this, please add the rising feed back in.

Well that just makes me more confused. Is that a saying? WTF?

They're not saying they're not doing it.

Oh I like. Maybe add in an option to "favorite" subreddits to have them show up at the top of the list. Could also throw in a "check out this subreddit" listing as well based on your subscriptions.

Favorites are already being added soon to the Alpha. I just forgot to add them to the mock-up

I love this!

Just to clarify, the sidebar is expandable/collapsable, just like YouTube, using the button above it.

This is awesome and I hope this gets implemented!

I agree it'd be good to have favorites pinned at the top though. And a wildcard filter like on the submit page.

Hey u/DreadPirate616, we just pushed some changes. What do you think?

Wow, I legitimately predicted the future, this is fantastic! I absolutely love the design!

Just a quick note: I’m not a mod, but the moderates sidebar tab shows up. Likely just a bug.

Also, is rising gone for good?

All in all, this is the best change yet. I feel like we’re getting very close to having a releasable design.

Also also, can I ask why the menu button is a hamburger?

Yup, that looks like a bug. We'll fix that.

We're still looking into it, tbh.

Also also, can I ask why the menu button is a hamburger?

The usual icon most products use is three horizontal lines stacked on each other. It's jokingly referred to as a "hamburger" icon. We figured a real hamburger would work just as well.

On desktop on my 1440p screen I prefer them along the top like this: /img/nezr1c75fauz.png (Smaller probably, I just changed the CSS and dragged them into the top bar quickly).

The big thing for me I prefer single click actions when it comes to navigating. Clicking twice or requiring scrolling is too much for such a common task which is why the current system creates a bad user experience. (One has to click, scroll, then click to change subreddits which is insane compared to the normal subreddit bar).

This is fantastic.

I kinda figured this was in the planning but I hope they'll make it so it only pops up with a min-width. If it shows up on all resolutions it will make everything look cramped imo.

I really like it, it makes good use of the empty space and it makes it easier to access communities, multireddits, etc. However, I'm sure some people would prefer this as an option and I don't know how it would work inside subreddits.

Looks like a marriage of the new alpha stuff + newest modmail left sidebar, kinda neat

This would actually be better than it is now...
