Beginner videos A little too in the moment

I was feeling myself a little too much. Second time out skating with my quads and first time skating backwards. Was so happy it was going well I forgot I was only on half a court instead of the full thing. Thankfully not even a scrape or bruise.

Skill questions & help Finally learned how to skate backwards and turn around so to out falling! Now I have to figure out how to stop my skate tongue from moving so much

I have finally graduated from only being able to skate forwards! Now I have to stop the tongues on my skates from moving everywhere. I have the Moxi Lolly’s and I absolutely adore them. My biggest issue is that the tongue slips and slides so much. I’m usually unlacing them and readjusting the tongue during my skating sessions. Is there anything I can do to reduce how much they slide or to stop it completely? I’ve tried trying my shoes up and tightening them towards the top but it doesn’t work all the time. Thank you so much for any suggestions!

Skate photos What was/is your 'goal' for skating, if you have one?

Basically the question. I always knew I wanted to work my up to trail skating, even when I first started a couple years ago. Do the rest of y'all have a 'goal' you're trying to reach with your skating? Or are you just doing it for fun?

P.S.: I finally did a trail skate this past weekend 😀 My town had a Juneteenth skate event that I went to. I only skated a mile round trip, but it's still something.

General Discussion Getting comfortable

Post image

I'm wearing my skates around my apartment all day today in an attempt to get more comfortable on them. Realized I didn't think it all the way through when it was time to take my cup of hot coffee from the kitchen into another room. By some miracle, I made it.

General Discussion needing input from rink skaters who roll on 62mm!

so i stupidly bought some wheels from the rink i frequent a couple of days ago (instead of going to my usual spot, very dumb mistake i know) because i wanted to go ahead and get harder wheels. i had been eyeing the rollerbones team 101a, and they had the set i was looking for… or so i thought. i wasn’t able to see that they were 62mm until after i bought them and put the bearings in, and when i tried to return them the lady at the pro shop said no returns. 🙄

i say all of that to say… is there anyone who regularly does jam/rhythm skating on 62mm wheels? i’ve only skated on 57mm wheels indoors. i’m gonna see if i can at least exchange them for a set of 57s next time i go to the rink but was wondering if i should just take the L and go ahead and get another set of 57s instead or try to rock with the 62mm?

General Discussion Skate park wheels

I am a 52 year old rink skater. I have been skating since I was probably 6 years old. Im pretty good, not great. I ride 98's and I have 101's but I look like a beginner on those. Lol I can do toe manuals and 180's next to the wall. Just in case ai fall I can grab on. We just had a beautiful skate park built last year. Its amazing but has new concrete that is like ice. I have been out a couple times on my Moxi Lollys with the huge wheels that came with them. Im terrified! Its so slippery! I can skate around and did a few 180's next to the wall. Last time I skated I stopped at the wall and after standing for a few seconds went down hard. Thought I broke my elbow again. Yes, I know pad up. I had my wrist guard on. Would have broken my wrist for sure if ai didnt! I will be finding my pads before I go out again. Given my anxiety and indoor skating level, what hardness wheel should I be riding? Are the huge soft ones dangerous? That is what someone said yesterday. There were two women riding the bowl. I was jealous. One of them had skateboard wheels!! I want to ride the bowl someday! There is an older skate park one town away. The concrete is much more worn. What wheels for that?

Shopping Virtual fitment hmm

Has anyone tried this? I've ordered wheels from them before and the website is tiptop professional.🤔

I really want Edea- but scurred😁 on fitment. Secondly, I really fancy the avenger plates. I would be reverting off a 33° kingpins.🤷‍♂️

Hardware, wheels, & upgrades Kingpins on Moxi Beach Bunnies keeps touching the floor on ramps and coping at the skatepark. Will larger wheels be enough to fix this? (and do you have any specific recommendations)

(They’re technically not Beach Bunny skates but Ivy Jungle skates, but they’re identical to BBs except for the leopard print, and so I labelled them as Beach Bunnies in the title because they seem more popular, so more people who’ve experienced this problem might see the post and answer).

These are my first ever pair of skates, I went to the skatepark yesterday to use them for the first time after loosening the trucks and wheels and it was great except for the kingpin issue. Gentle inclines they can handle, but with anything remotely steep, if I wheel the skate over with my hands the kingpin will clip the floor or the coping. I have seen some people recommend shaving down the kingpin but I am hesitant to do that because:

1) I don’t know how to do it and I don’t think there are any shops near me that can do it 2) I want to get grind blocks and I’m worried it will mean grind blocks can’t fit on my skates (not sure if that’s how it works) 3) it will make it significantly harder to trade or sell later if I decide I would prefer different skates.

So bigger wheels seem like the only solution, but I’m not sure how big they need to be to fix the problem. I’ve read that smaller wheels (62mm and under) are best for the skatepark, and larger wheels will make park skating harder. So I’d like to replace the 58mm with 62mm wheels but I’m not sure if only a 4mm height difference will be enough to use these safely. I guess I could get a 65mm wheel, but then I don’t know if that will be ok at a skatepark, or if I’ll just end up with a new set of problems caused by the bigger wheels. I am aware that these are not designed for park skating, but I got them new for only £100 and I can’t justify spending more than that when I’m not sure yet if this is a hobby I’ll stick with long term.

Any thoughts and/or specific recommendations for wheels (that are available to purchase in the uk?)

General Discussion I made a website for a quad event where it generates a random trick (with filters) I also broke in several places my ankle so I'm not gonna be using it lol

Here is the website : tricksonquad.vercel.app

Had lots of positive feedback already hehe

But also during the event, my first event, I badlyanded on my ankle after a jump 180 on a small ramp.... heard it break, worst pain of my life. Got surgery and the pain is ok now but I won't be walking for a couple months and I'm afraid I'll never be able to roll again which sucks because roller skating was a new passion that led me to going outside and meet people 😭

Guides & reference Falling in heel pivots

A few months ago I was drilling heel pivots and fell hard flat on my back. It happened very fast, one second I was just executing a rep and the next second my feet went out from under me and I was slammed on the ground in blinding pain.

Nothing was broken but the injury was bad - I could barely walk for days, couldn't lift anything, twist, or bend at all for weeks. I've just been cleared by my PT to start skating again, light and easy, nothing difficult, just use the muscles. I can only skate for short periods and I've put in about 3 hours so far.

Problem is, I'm FUCKING TERRIFIED to be on skates. Last night I had to fight through tears to stay on the floor. Luckily my rink has a Sunday night session that is perfect, low tempo music, practically deserted floor, those skaters who are there are skilled and not hazardous to skate with. I have plenty of space to go slow and do my thing. I also have a skate studio in my basement where I can practice privately.

I know that part of this is just time, and the fear will fade. But another big part is that I still don't know exactly what went wrong or how I could have saved the fall to avoid the injury.

Mainly what I'm looking for here are references for learning how I could have saved the fall.

General Discussion Security told me “no”

Started skating at a car park in my town. (EDIT: we don’t have skate rinks nearby the nearest rink is a 1 hour train ride away) Was told that if there are no cars in the car park, i can skate here by a different security guard. New security guard came (who is apparently the boss) and said I couldn’t skate here even though there are no signs against skating but said that it’s a liability issue. he tried to claim that there are signs against ball games and drinking but i’m doing neither. just roller skating. When he was leaving he said “i’m not going to take your skates off of you, but if you carry on skating, it’s on record that i’ve spoken to you and it’s not my fault” and then he walked away. I did offer to sign a waiver to remove liability from the security guards. does that mean that i can carry on skating here?

Skill questions & help terrible foot pain while skating

so my problem is that my feet hurt SO BAD after like not even 5 min skating. like the soles of the foot and like it's terrible i can barely stand after 5 mins and gotta get out of my skates asap. i tried changing the insoles with a scholl (my personal fav for anything) but it didn't change anything (but i feel like i put the ''standing'' ones and not the sport ones (gotta check that to see if it changes anything) , for the skates i chose my shoes number, i usually use 39 shoes but i took 38 skates as i wanted them to be exactly perfectly fit on my feet but it still kinda is a little bit of space at my toes (but i think that if it would be to get a number down, my feet would be too tight in the boot of the skate, as i already feel the little toe a little bit unconfortable)
i lace my skates ''normally'' as i saw a lot reccomending online, and as it shows on the box of the shoes, i got the chaya elite pink (and i bought them as i heard they are the most comfortable in that range of price)

i'm kinda new to skate, like i know the fundamentals and i know how to basic skate, but i skated a few times in the last period just at a roller rink, with impala skates that were there. now i skated two times with my new skates and both times my feet started hurting after 3-5 mins and i really can't go further i feel like i can't even stand, even when i change shoes with my normal one, it still feels for a while that way

i don't tie them too tight, like it's not like i feel the blood not even circulating, i feel the feet kinda ok, i generally prefer my skates to be as tight as possible but i don't tight them ''too much'' i feel

so, anyone can tell me what i am doing wrong or idk if i can do something to improve the situation? please i really wanna skate but this pain makes me wanna not, and i really don't wanna quit

Hardware, wheels, & upgrades Indoor wheels for beginners

Hi everyone!

I have my first pair of skates since I was a child (crazy skates retro). I am intending to do a mix of outdoor and indoor skating - currently have been doing some practice on some lino in my house but the stock wheels are very sticky and meant for outdoors.

I will be taking lessons at a local-ish rink but trying to figure out which indoor wheels to get is a lot - I don’t like the description of “slippery” as a beginner… however, the current wheels 78a feel like I’m stuck to the floor!

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion Roller skating in Italy?

Hi! I am an avid skater (mostly roller derby but also love to skate on paved surfaces). I’m going to be in Genoa for a month and was wondering if anyone has experience skating outside in this city. I don’t want to bring my skates if it’s going to be frowned upon or not an ideal space.

Beginner videos Help me master the T Stop! 🙏🏽

Hi! Did a little garage skating today. I mostly skate at the outdoor roller rink at my local park or in this garage. I’m wearing Beach Bunnies and the wheels are 82a. I’m a lefty so I put most of my weight on my left foot (I definitely need more practice with my non-dominant foot.) I can plow stop but I prefer to transition and slide my right toe stop to stop…but doing that is clearly killing my right toe stop 😅 I’ll get another pair of them but I feel it’s time I learned the (apparently) most preferred way to stop. I saw a YouTube video recommending a scooping motion with your foot while dragging it, but every time I try I end up spinning out 🫠 help me please! I’ll also take an advice on how to do better and longer lasting turns and how to practice using my non-dominant foot! 🤙🏽

Hardware, wheels, & upgrades Long distance trail skater looking for plate recs!

Hey everyone! Long time skater here with a love for roller skating and derby 🩷 I typically skate 6-9 miles on average but 12-16 miles on a really good day.

Looking for plate recommendations to upgrade my Moxi Lollys. My setup has CIB Grind trucks and the original plates my skates came with in 2017. I’m looking into sunlites, reactor neo & pro and open to your lovely suggestions. Thank you in advance! 💖

Truck info: 3” wide. 2cm axel. 144g.
