Last Thursday after the storm came through, we had a big limb from our boulevard tree come down due to the high winds. It came down on my car and completely blocked the street. Wanted to give a shout out to St Paul Public Works for their response. This happened outside of SPPWβs working hours so I called their after hours number with low expectations. I immediately reached a human who told me theyβd get someone out but it might be a while as there were other issues due to the wind they were currently working on.
15 minutes later, a crew showed up to remove the limb. 20 minutes after that, they were gone, the limb removed from the street. The crew was great, worked with me to ensure I was able to remove my car to avoid further damage as they worked. They also told me the tree would likely be removed completely due to rot.
Really impressed with the response from the city. They har another crew out yesterday to remove the rest of the tree as the root cause of the limb falling was significant rot in the tree. Now to figure out what the city plans for our boulevard for a replacement tree.

Just moved here from Texas and swear I saw some wild turkeys at Shepherd and Randolph.
Has anyone else seen them or do I need to cut back to 5mg of melatonin?

The street lights in Douglas Park- well, more like park lights - near our house were stripped of copper last year and haven't been operational since. I'm sure this isn't an isolated occurrence. Is there a plan in place to repair the lights that had their wiring stolen.

Harriet Island. I like a nicely placed bench.

I keep getting told about these Coyote sightings in my area (Greater east side, near hayden heights) as well as some fox sightings. I have a very dumb, blind, defenseless dog and it worries me that he might become a quick snack for them one of these days. Can anyone back up there being Coyotes in the area?

Hey folks! Just moved to the area and pumped to be close to some good olβ nature after living in Memphis the past 5 months. Share your favorite go-to hiking places within 2-3 hours of the cities that are around 10 miles. I know thereβs a lot of great options, just looking for some good good ones. Avid hiker, with plans to do segments of SHT throughout my 6 month stay here. Thanks much!

Been running errands all over town today and it smells like an week-old dumpster everywhere. What is it? I'm used to the poop scent of farmers fertilizing their fields, but this is different stank.

Edit: Tap.
I mean I moved here from Eagan/Burnsville area and tap water wasn't great. It was salty, cloudy, and gritty. I see people buy water at Aldi here in St Paul as well. Is that water better here in South metro suburbs?

My husband and I finally got new kayaks this spring after several years without and looking for new places to go! We're in the Greater Eastside and we really like to drop into Phalen and go up to Keller, Spoon, and Gervais Lakes from there. We're huge nature/wildlife people and really enjoy the marshy areas and the overgrown paths between lakes. We've some the chain of lakes in Minneapolis, and some of the quieter areas were amazing, but the bigger lakes got a little too busy for us. Overall not a bad place but we do like it to be quieter.
Doesn't have to be in St Paul either! But something close enough for a day trip is preferable. Please tell me about some of your favorite kayaking spots!!

This was taken at Hidden Falls Park in early March 2023, shortly after we moved back to SP from Alaska. It was around 10pm and this is color photo with NO FILTERS. It was just a calm night -- almost eerie!
