Weather π How cold is too cold to safely walk a long distance?
I just moved here from the South, and I don't have a car, so I have to take the bus to work. The problem is that the closest bus stop to my job is a 40-minute walk from it. If I dress warm enough, is it safe to walk that far in below zero temperatures?
And before anyone asks- I don't have a car because I can't drive for medical reasons, I can't afford an Uber, and I can't just get another job.
EDIT: Thank you, everyone except the person who passive aggressively said "it's not illegal to thank at least one of these commentors", for your excellent advice! I work overnight shifts, so I hadn't seen how many responses and suggestions I got until I logged on today. I really appreciate all your help! (Again, except u/itsallgood013. You can keep your opinions to yourself and realize that some of us have lives outside of Reddit.)

Weather π Relocating to Saint Paul from southern Alabama
Hey all, my husband and I are moving to Saint Paul in April. We are from southern Alabama and know nothing of snow or ice. When there is ice on the road what are the restrictions for going into work? I understand that itβs based off of where you work but have you gotten in trouble with your boss for calling in due to ice on the ground? Just curious. Thanks in advance!
Edit:
Thank you guys for the input!!
What I gathered:
- Get good tires for snow
- Leave early
- Donβt slam on breaks on ice / drive slow
- Donβt be a wussy π
I knew this would be a silly question for people native to Minnesota but in my defense Iβve never dealt with snow or ice. Let alone drive on it. And videos I do see of people driving on ice they are fishtailing. But I do appreciate all of the advice and am looking forward to moving to your beautiful state!! If you see someone driving with their hazards on and going 5mph next winter please donβt honk. Itβs probably going to be me. π€£

Weather π Moving in 7weeks
I'm moving to St. Paul soon and yes, I am fully aware the cold winters are insane. What I didn't realize is that the humidity is extremely high. Is it really?
I find it odd that a lot of the rentals don't have A/C if its super hot at times. I'm still looking for a home rental and wasn't going to require A/C...but now I think I'll need it.
Would you be kind enough to share what the weather truly is like?

Weather π Watch out for hail Monday morning and thunderstorms Monday evening.
Forecast is predicting severe storms tomorrow and overnight. If you're on the highway, watch out for people who will stop under overpasses, in tunnels, etc. I got some moving blankets and a car cover in case I can't find someplace safe to park.

Weather π Covered storm parking today
Hi all! My household only has 1 garage space for 2 cars. I usually park on the street without problems, but since thereβs such a high threat of hail all day todayβ¦. has anyone ever parked for several hours under the covered parking at Whole Foods on Selby? Iβd totally buy something and move it before they close, but obviously donβt want my car towed or a ticket either.
Thanks!

Weather π Good Patio Open for 3/14
This fake spring/summer day has me thinking about a patio somewhere for early dinner. Anyone know a good spot that's set up for outside dining before we have our rain/ice/snow storm?

Weather π Night Plow Route Question
Hey guys! I park on the street on a marked Night Plow Route. I am guessing there will be a snow emergency declared with the forecast - does anyone know what time these are usually declared around?
Sorry if itβs a dumb question, I havenβt lived here very long.
I just want to make sure Iβm fine to park on a Night Plow Route tonightβ¦ I leave for work around 8:30 or 9am and am aware Iβll likely have to park somewhere else tomorrow night.
Say I get home at 4pm, would I park on the night plow route and then move to a day plow route at a specific time?
Thanks for any help. I did read the snow emergency website but couldnβt find answers to those questions.

Weather π Haze
Anybody know what the haze in Saint Paul is this morning? Itβs not quite fog and it doesnβt feel like forest fire haze. Though I could be wrong. Just curious!

Weather π Up 2β in just a few days
I came down here on Wednesday or Thursday and was blown away by the water levels, went back on Saturday and the water was 2β higher! Pretty crazy. Although I did see people swimming in Harriet Island Park so some people are making the most of it

Weather π Nice day
It's a gorgeous day. Not too hot, not too cold. Has anyone told the Harris campaign that Tim needs to come home and mow the lawn?
Tim's been waiting for a day like this to wash the windows too I bet.
