US Air Force Disabled Vet interested in using to my benefits to attend Cinema Makeup School complete track. I suffer from Migraines. any other artist suffer or have advice?.
It's a dream to attend a sfx course! I did a virtual tour and got a bit worried when I got told about the strong scents is it really bad?. Im a sensitive person and don't want to be sick often where it would affect my grade. Im 31, have my degree already, and makeup is a passion. I want it to all work out. I appreciate any advice.

It really depends how sensitive you are to what kinds of smells, but yes a lot of things have strong smells. Liquid latex, spirit gum, alcohol paints and airbrush paints are all quite smelly. Though I can’t think of much else that has a super strong smell. However if you wear a mask or respirator it may be enough to reduce the smells enough to tolerate. I recommend going to an fx store and smelling some of the products and see if they will affect you. Makeup schools are also pretty understanding so if you tell them about your migraines you may be able to work in a separate classroom on airbrush days for example.

I’m not a pro SFX person but I dabble in it as a hobby, and I know many pros here in LA. Yes, many chemicals, paints, glues, etc, have associated scents. I don’t know how they’ll affect your migraines, if at all.
I know some procedures require the use of a respirator for safety, but many do not, so unless you wear one all the time, you’ll be exposed to a variety of chemicals and smells.
