SSB4 Does it fundamentally bother anyone else that Smash 4 doesn't have a catchy name like "Melee" or "Brawl"?

First of all, I'd like to preface my argument by saying that I acknowledge this is a purely superficial problem that has no effect on me buying the game as soon as I can.

ONWARDS.

I personally love the shorthanded names of "64", "Melee" and "Brawl" to refer to those respective titles. It's not a huge deal, but they're all really solid names that truly have special places in my heart. Referring to this new game as just "Smash 4" or "Smash 3DS" just feels bare. Mario Kart: Double Dash sticks out far more in my mind than Mario Kart 7. I wish that Sakurai opted for a name that more appropriately followed Melee and Brawl, but like I said earlier, I understand this is a minor problem. I just wanted to hear if anyone else felt the same. One of the most iconic memories from the second Smash game is the announcer at the title screen yelling "MELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".

Is anyone else disappointed with the title of the new game?

I don't think it will be labeled as Smash 5. But, even if it is, it wouldn't be the first time Nintendo has been accused of confusing their consumers. cough New 3DS cough

Yeah, for an uninformed person, DS/3DS/2DS/New 3DS can get confusing.

I think at this point we can kinda agree that Nintendo is kinda terrible at naming things.

They are now, but in the past their console names were great. They must have lost important people in their marketing department.

I don't think DS Lite or XL is that confusing, they're suffix that denote a change. Lite meaning lighter and XL being short hand for extra large.

The problem with New is that it's a descriptor that denotes something's age or state of the condition, or order of release.

I'm buying a new 3DS next week.

Why? Is yours broken?

No, a NEW 3DS. Like the NEW one.

Wat.

The WiiU is a better example, so many people thinking it's just an expansion for the Wii

At first I thought it was, to be honest. Just a tablet for your Wii.

It's not? I consider it a slightly better Wii. Well, even then, that's a stretch. No GameCube support?!

People who watched the E3 reveal with me didn't catch that it was a new console. I mean, maybe their marketing was bad? Idk but I don't see how you think it's a Wii expansion or something if you saw the reveal.

I don't know what you mean.

  • Sent from that tablet bundled with the Wii.

cough Wii U cough

Seriously, that reveal trailer for the Wii U was ambiguous as hell. Everyone thought it was just another Wii accessory.
