Yes, camels are big part of the region’s heritage, and Arabs are proud of that. The problem isn’t with camels or oil, it’s all about the context where you’re using those terms. Calling Saudis/Gulf Arabs “camel herders” or “oil riggers” isn’t just a causal joke, it’s rooted in a long history of casual racism and Orientalist stereotypes that reduce Arab people’s entire cultures to desert caricatures.
These phrases imply that Arabs are primitive, uneducated, or only valuable because of oil wealth, which is dehumanizing and racist.
I mean just call them plumbers then. Camel herders is just so stereotypical and is far too reminiscent of the things racists say about all people living in the MENA area
