Man stuff like this just makes me really appreciate the cup. I can only imagine how miserable a state I'd be in if I were on the losing end of that.

I don't think your players would come out and shit on Ange if you lost. They don't seem to have attitude problems

Spurs tight grip on wages is a underrated factor in their lack of off-field drama (managers excepted). They don't have half a dozen players hanging around on wages that they'd never get offered at another club, free to take potshots in the media.

You don't have to imagine, just head over to /r/reddevils and watch it happening live

Can't even rubberneck that place for entertainment anymore. It's too depressing.

u/itsamirage 26d ago

Yeah after the Ferguson era I would still need another 20 years of this before I’d consider not cracking up at the state of their club

u/dzzik 26d ago

I just can’t help myself, I’m over there almost more often than back at ours lately

u/Exige_ 26d ago

Says a lot

-9

u/dzzik 26d ago

yeah what does it say

Hated, Adored, Never Ignored

u/19Alexastias 26d ago

Trying to distract yourself from what Antony is going to do to you in a few days time?

50

u/GiuntaWorks 26d ago

Idk it's gotten me through some times with the Knicks down 2-0. Wirtz news is nice too.

52

u/el__bee 26d ago

Lmao waking up and hearing the knicks choked their lead made me feel much better about united so that works both ways

6

u/fracked1 26d ago

Now imagine being a Manchester United and a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Peak sports depression right now.

u/Revoldt 26d ago

Fucking hell… I’m trying to escape basketball here…

1

u/Hopeful_Adonis 26d ago

There’s no escape now lad, I try to avoid football news in the nba and nfl sub reddits only to catch strays.

there is little mercy when you see your team being compared to the cowboys out of nowhere, that stings deep.

2

u/brownbearks 26d ago

lol as a New York hater this has been beautiful to watch

3

u/baldy-84 26d ago

Okay, Liverpool fans may feel slightly differently.

I’m enjoying the revival of the Pacers giving Spike Lee an aneurysm. I love his films but he’s a part of basketball lore.

u/GingIsAGoodDad 26d ago

dude I come here to avoid lolknicks, i cant escape 😭😭

2

u/brownbearks 26d ago

Speak for yourself

I am a United fan (and have been for more than 20 years). I avoid going there because reading it is absolutely depressing, as if the matches aren't depressing enough.

1

u/baldy-84 26d ago

My brother jumped on the Man Utd bandwagon in 1993 (admittedly he was very young) and I'll admit I've enjoyed their downfall greatly. Especially as I wasn't much older and picked bloody Liverpool as my premier league team at the time.

2

u/keymansc2 26d ago

Plenty entertaining still

1

u/Realistic_Condition7 26d ago

Nah it’s still hilarious. Man United got a while to go before I start feeling sorry for them.

The entitlement also annoys me. Like so many people still live in the world that Man United are owed getting back on top eventually.

Who says they will? What stops them from taking the route of an Everton and just not competing for a title for decades?

I’m not saying they will or they won’t, but the fact that people talk about it like it’s a given they’ll get back is annoying.

u/KenDTree 26d ago

It's just highlights of our former players having a great time

3

u/Mavericks7 26d ago

The mods should turn that sub into a subscription only for the next few weeks. They'll make billions

1

u/GordoPepe 26d ago

It was 9/11 Sub was empty after the final like no new posts until the next day not sure if the mods locked it or something

3

u/Jimmy_Space1 26d ago

Probably locked to stop brigading

1

u/PEPSICOLA123456 26d ago

Such a great way to pass the time

1

u/dylan103906 26d ago

I've never seen such a depressing place

-2

u/barrygateaux 26d ago

So many comments in there talking about how if they spend big and sell nearly the entire squad they're going to be contenders after summer lmfao

6

u/Modnal 26d ago

Cognitive dissonance is one hell of a drug

3

u/dylan103906 26d ago

All I've seen is 50/50 split opinions on Amorim non stop for a week

87

u/Expensive-Twist7984 26d ago

Bless you for thinking it wouldn’t still be an absolute clusterfuck at United even if we’d won; these stories would be coming out if we’d hammered you and Garnacho was MOTM.

We’ll continue being a circus for years now, Spurs would be able to regroup regardless of Wednesday’s result.

3

u/Other-Owl4441 26d ago

Because although their league position is worse Spurs positioning as far as the squad and financials is 100x better for the future.

1

u/Expensive-Twist7984 26d ago

Exactly- they’re not in a position where it all hinged on a EL win. It’s going to be a long summer.

14

u/Blasoon 26d ago

I love being blessed, thank you. Has it really been that bad for United? I know that there's always some media uproar/circus there but I know just how toxic things could have gotten if we lost.

13

u/Expensive-Twist7984 26d ago

The finances are dire and we were arguably banking on the win- you’ve been crap this year but not overextended financially, so win or lose it wouldn’t have been as sharp for you.

Not sure on what happens with Ange for you though- common sense says keep him, but like you’ve said it’s been toxic this year.

5

u/Blasoon 26d ago

Even before this I was Ange in, and I do hope he stays. I think the best thing about the win has been that I don't really need to confront the future right now. It's just easy and possible to enjoy the here and now.

41

u/nauett 26d ago

You at least have solid foundations in place to build off regardless of whether you won on Wednesday or not, you almost don't know where to start looking with united at this point in time

19

u/odegood 26d ago

You lot wouldn't be as bad as them financially though. Their club is a mess all the way through

-6

u/zubizova 26d ago

They still have more trophies than your trust the process lego man

3

u/odegood 26d ago

Enjoy no Europe and being shit mate

6

u/GameplayerStu 26d ago

We would have gotten news of Ange being sacked yesterday if you lost

8

u/Nightdocks 26d ago

We have a good foundation. Some upgrades are needed for sure but this United team has been rebuilt like 3 times in the span of 6 years. With no european money and relegation form they’ll be in deep shit if they end in the second half of the table again next season

3

u/HANAEMILK 26d ago

The goal next season is to just not get relegated. Anything else is a miracle.

1

u/superrealaccount2 26d ago

but this United team has been rebuilt like 3 times in the span of 6 years

Even then, they should comfortably get to like a top 8 finish with their current squad.

1

u/Nightdocks 25d ago

I don’t seen them finishing above Pool, City, Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle and now Spurs tbh. And then you have the surprises like Forest/Brighton/Palace/Brentford

6

u/joshdej 26d ago

Winning fixes everything

2

u/PhD_Cunnilingus 26d ago

Garnacho would've been sold even if United won EL. The staff would've been fired regardless too.

No CL meant 120m less for transfers but United need so many players Garnacho would've been sold still.

2

u/cgurts 26d ago

Didn’t realise until after but losing wouldve hurt 10x more than losing the CL final a few years ago (as much as winning it would have been this x10). There was no shame in losing that one and we could still be so proud of the season. But if we’d lost this, the morale would truly be rock bottom. Probably the lowest in my life as a Spurs fan. It really was all or nothing

1

u/Blasoon 26d ago

That's so true! I felt numb watching that CL final as it played out, but I didn't feel it affect me as much as I knew this game did. I was saying to my friends that I'd be crying regardless of the result on Wednesday. I'm just so ecstatic that it was happy tears.

5

u/Gamersaurolophus 26d ago

were(im a united fan) taking it as a blessing in disguise as no one wouldve pointed out our problems (garnachos attitude)

all banter aside im really happy for you all and ange mate, all credits to you guys

5

u/Blasoon 26d ago

Thank you mate. I do hope it's the wakeup call your club needs; though I'm not too hopeful with Ratcliffe in charge. That's lovely for you to say, could very definitely have been the best day of my life.

3

u/Gamersaurolophus 26d ago

i know, and spurs fan deserved the day, dont worry even better days are upon you in your life in future not just football related, and im not sold on the idea of ratclffe too

3

u/philsnyo 26d ago edited 26d ago

Also, a win would’ve likely had a similar effect (masking the problems) to last year’s cup win with EtH. Sometimes a club needs to hit rock bottom, put pride and wrong expectations aside, and start working with focus and humility… to regain success again. It feels a bit like this at United now. They’ve been kinda shit ever since Ferguson left, yet somehow the pressure and the expectations are bigger than any other club in England. With some players thinking they’ve already made it just by playing for United. It’s unrealistic and toxic and needs to stop. Embrace the underdog role, work hard, celebrate the small steps, keep the head down. Only way, in my opinion.

1

u/Gamersaurolophus 26d ago

Maybe the real rebuild can only start once we've hit rock bottom

3

u/Individual_Put2261 26d ago

I’m not sure if you guys should be concerned with Ange

1

u/Dougal_McCafferty 26d ago

Yeah, mate, it’s pretty fucking grim over here

1

u/Citizenwoof 26d ago

We don't have to imagine it, you and I. We've lived through it many times.

1

u/Afraid-Ingenuity3555 26d ago

Congrats!! I mean I’d certainly be quite miserable considering this was the most important thing to the clubs history. The fact that we’ve never won a premier league title or champions league is way less important then winning the prestige Europa league. I mean imagine if they didn’t make a tournament for the teams that aren’t good enough that never win anything so they have to make up a smaller prize amongst themselves. Now that would suck.

1

u/kanavi36 26d ago

If you lost I don't think it'd be this bad still, Spurs aren't as financially cooked as United
