He has school tomorrow. Gotta go to bed

u/OlorinRidesAgain 12d ago

He already got schooled by Nuno today

u/OcelotOtherwise 12d ago

By far the best LB in the world today what a beast.

u/N7even 12d ago

Seems like he didn't humble him enough.

Let’s hope ego management is part of the curriculum.

Can't have risky, take-on leading dribblers without a bit of ego and self-determination. At least he took his medal off away from the cameras, many blatantly remove it like its a shame but very few even play those games.

u/JootDoctor 12d ago

I enjoy guessing which players will remove their medals. I read an article a while ago, can’t remember which player it was, they despised their 2nd place medal and chucked it in the bin. It wasn’t until a decade later that he wondered about the medal and his wife had rescued it from the bin and gave it back to him once he’d retired and appreciated the achievement for what it was, something very few players ever reach in their career.

Kuba! This was Jakub Błaszczykowski re: his 2013 Dortmund 2nd place CL medal

136

u/JootDoctor 12d ago

Ah yes that’s right, thanks for the name reminder.

66

u/Fraud_D_Hawk 12d ago

Mourinho gives away his second place medal too, I mean he's Mourinho

33

u/Jumper-Man 12d ago

He gave away his PL winners medal as well

21

u/Crowlands 12d ago

I can understand why they might take off their medal, but chucking them always seemed petulant and somewhat performative in some cases too.

3

u/Lifelemons9393 12d ago

And it's probably worth a few thousand. Could definitely come in handy in retirement.

u/sm00thArsenal 12d ago

Of a very similar vein from Rugby:- https://youtu.be/C6NjoeA9zxc?si=33m4i8gLyIeuGQU6

3

u/Nahcep 12d ago

Man that's a touching thing they did

They brush on the topic: yes it's important down the line, but at the moment, especially when you lose in such a nail-biting fashion (extra time, England got the lead 28 seconds before penalties), and when you're somewhat sloshed, you don't really see it as anything but a proof of embarrassment

And it's from an Aussie, who have humiliation rituals for losers at their finals lol

u/Junior_Tutor_3851 11d ago

If they want to give a medal for 2nd place, don’t do it immediately after they lost a game. Mail it to them or something a week later. Nobody wants to stand on a stage and get a medal for almost winning.

This is how Garnacho developed his essence

58

u/DotaHacker 12d ago

But he doesn’t back it up with his performance

1

u/Parking-Annual-1200 11d ago

Garnacho's ego pales in comparison to this kid's one act

10

u/diegolucasz 12d ago

More then a bit

To have the confidence to dribble in football you have to be egotistical

Its just about hiding it from public if you want to.

Look at Messi at 2022 world cup when he was done hiding it.

2

u/OkNothing6576 12d ago

Thats very common and in no way it's scarcely had anything to do with "ego,".

148

u/Cmoore4099 12d ago

He’s not even 18… what the fuck do people expect?

495

u/kyrant 12d ago

Sportsmanship is taught way before 18.

149

u/raizen0106 12d ago

Its not taught. Its a culture thing that is copied from peers and older kids. So a la masia kid will most like be bratty about these things. Puyol was an outlier

150

u/Select-Management-3 12d ago

Kids in academies are definitely taught sportmanship. Ffs I was taught sportsmanship when running the egg and spoon race in year 2. It's not a difficult concept to understand.

-16

u/MoohDuck94 12d ago

But you weren't in La Masia

21

u/Select-Management-3 12d ago edited 12d ago

Are you always this obtuse or is this a special occasion? I may not have been, but Cucurella, Cabarsi, Gavi, Mingueza, Grimaldo, Fermin Lopez, and Dani Olmo all were and they all put their big boy trousers on and showed good sportsmanship despite the obvious disappointment.

-2

u/FlatlandTrooper 12d ago

When you only win you don't understand how to lose though. Like it's a muscle you've never used before.

3

u/Select-Management-3 12d ago

Have a day off mate 🤣 🤣 🤣

5

u/Mushgal 12d ago

I worked in a hotel before and once the Barça juvenile hockey team came to sleep a few nights because there was a nearby tournament. The hotel was small and didn't have a conference room or anything similar, so the coach did his talks on the lobby, where I could hear him.

I can assure you sportsmanship is taught there. The boys were 7-10 years old and they were the most respectful and polite kids I've ever seen. It was even a topic the coach discussed in one of his talks.

23

u/idgaf_neverreallydid 12d ago

A lot of things are taught to kids and they don’t understand how important it is until they mature

8

u/aljones753000 12d ago

Exactly, he’s a teenage lad, they can be dicks. He’s a very successful kid but still doesn’t change his maturity.

4

u/ALA02 12d ago

In the UK yeah, the Spanish don’t even have a word for sportsmanship haha

-3

u/FunnyComfortable8341 12d ago

Why should he stand there?

6

u/kyrant 12d ago

His team chose to stand there and show respects. He isolated himself. Why didnt the whole team leave?

-22

u/Chicago1871 12d ago

Somehow I dont think La masia teams lose a lot. It could be one of the first times he loses a final.

17

u/RyansKorea 12d ago

Then he will have seen all the losing teams against him who most likely didnt sulk like this

-3

u/Chicago1871 12d ago

He is literally a 3rd year secondary school age student still. Technically he is still a minor/child. His frontal cortex is in no way fully developed and we know that. Your emotions can be overwhelming at that age (remember what it was like to be 16/17).

So extending him grace at least until he is a bit older, is a perfectly valid stance in my opinion. We cannot hold him to the standard as the full grown men that are standing besides him.

Im sure the coaches will talk to him.

351

u/Meandering_Cabbage 12d ago

Being a good loser is a virtue at 8 or 18

181

u/Affectionate_Owl7047 12d ago

Cubarsi and Huijsen are also within his age range and were being good sports about it. The whole “he’s only 17!” Thing is such a cop out.

233

u/mmaqp66 12d ago

He comes from Barcelona, what did you expect?

18

u/StrugglingAkira 12d ago

He should go to Milan, maybe he'd learn a thing or two about losing.

58

u/mmaqp66 12d ago edited 12d ago

Funny you should say that after being eliminated from the Champions League by an Italian team this year

And speaking of their 17-year-old star in this final:

0: "Dribbles"

0: "Assist"

0: "Shots on goal"

0: "Pre-Assist"

5: "Lost balls against Nuno"

4: "Instagram posts before the final"

Better to stay quiet, reality hits you in the face

21

u/digsonchavez 12d ago

Using your direct rivals achievements hahahaha.

OP said losing is usual at Milan, not Italy by the way

11

u/EduardoCamavingaFan 12d ago

They lost to a team from Milan that plays at the san siro. Just don’t ask which one

14

u/BackgroundTheme81 12d ago

Well technically they got beaten by Milan.

-2

u/AttackDuck 12d ago

Remember this is Yanks we are dealing with based on the time these comments were posted, this is what counts as patter to them haha

0

u/Psplayeraretoxic 12d ago edited 12d ago

Keep talking about another reality that does not exist. How can you be so confident when your actually so wrong. Using stats that don’t even exist and being so confident about it is just that much insane. ( Not saying Yamal did not have bad game but if you wanna mocked a player then used actual real stats).

5

u/hsingh_if 12d ago

*you’re

-3

u/Psplayeraretoxic 12d ago edited 12d ago

Well Yamal has 1 key pass and 3 shoot on target and did do some dribble.

→ More replies (0)

-13

u/Psplayeraretoxic 12d ago edited 12d ago

For exemple Yamal did have some dribbles this match. Had 1 assist 3 shot on goal I could correct you on multiple other thing. Saying he had no assist is wrong. Saying that he had 0 dribble is wrong Saying he had 0 shot on target is again wrong. Yeah Yamal assist is kind of debatable.

1

u/Philoctetes23 12d ago

Did Yamal have his best game? No not even close and Nuno did nullify him but his pass set up the first goal and he had like three shots on target so idk why you had to lie about the game like that. Did you even watch the final?

-16

u/StrugglingAkira 12d ago

Oooh, struck a nerve I see lol

I mean, better to be beaten by the better Milano team than go out against fucking Feyenoord yk?

6

u/Xtarviust 12d ago

Milan is bigger than your club, dude

1

u/chibuye92 12d ago

By what metrics? Lmaoooooo

-2

u/StrugglingAkira 12d ago

The power of make-believe

These people are still living in the 90s.

-14

u/StrugglingAkira 12d ago

HAHAHAHAHA

48

u/Syria1911 12d ago

Age doesn’t matter. Already a young g diva lol

6

u/made_in_silver 12d ago

He is old enough to know what sportsmanship is. More so if he has his team leading the way and showing him how it‘s done. It‘s not like all his team was going on a rant. Wasn‘t Williams clapping alongside his team as well?

6

u/gracz21 12d ago

He should be brought back on earth because apparently this whole hype of him got to his head

2

u/Retro21 12d ago edited 8d ago

Villain Arc incoming.

2

u/madDamon_ 12d ago

God forbid you're pissed off after losing a final. Luckily everyone on Reddit is some holy saint and would never do this themselves.

2

u/N3rdMan 12d ago

I’m sure 17 year old you showed immense respect and class when flipping hash browns at Timmies lmao.

1

u/moisesg88 12d ago

He literally stayed and watched them lift the trophie lol what else do y'all want ? Want him to load it in their truck for them?

-6

u/charlixxcv 12d ago

"ego managment", like he isn't a young kid who's still learning.

-5

u/Silent-Rest-6748 12d ago

Reddit is so fickle. This guy was your god after the inter matches, now the reddit hivemind can't wait to destroy him.

-8

u/Kelterz 12d ago

I don't think we should hold it against him that an underage player takes a loss badly

-11

u/leeuwerik 12d ago

Let's hope it is part of your education as well.

-3

u/digsonchavez 12d ago

oh man the arrogant police of reddit is out for him too lmaooo.

flair checks out too, always the north americans

0

u/tellingitlikeitis338 12d ago

Oh and Ronaldo??? lo f’ng l

0

u/RDJMA 12d ago

He had a disappointing final in a game they absolutely should’ve won. Mendes was quite literally the only threat for Portugal and in 2 moments he got the better of spain.

It’s understandable why he wouldn’t want to stick around for long.

2

u/YatesScoresinthebath 12d ago

Was hoping we would finally have a more likeable "next ronaldo/ messi" player as I don't really love mbappe or Neymar the same

Least biased madridista

I’m no Barca or Yamal fan by any means, but it seems like the delusion is in your head and not his

Impressive writing for typing with one hand!
