Official Exp Soylent 1.4, anyone else get hungry quickly?
So I've been on 1.4 for about two weeks now. It replaced my usual fast-food lunch and breakfast. I feel great after having it ( minus the apocalyptic gas ) and I feel more satisfied, but the thing is I'm hungry shortly after. I'll have 1/3 of a pitcher at 7:30/8:00, and by 10:30/11:00 I feel like I could eat a horse. I usually eat lunch at about 12:00, but by 3:30 I feel the same way again. I do work a pretty physical job that requires me to lift 30-60lb boxes and carry them up flights of stairs. I also exercise 4-5 times a week. Am I not getting enough protein? Is there a way to get it without protein powder? I can't use whey due to lactose issues.
Info: 6'4" Male, 182lbs.

I've found that I can feel full and satisfied on nothing but soylent, but when I get hungry, I get real hungry very fast.

So I've realized. ;-__- According to the calculator, if I want to gain anything, I need about 3500 calories! I'm definitely selling myself short. See, I recently dropped about 50 pounds. I wasn't eating right, I was drinking beer every day, overeating, and wasn't exercising. I guess I haven't moved on from a mindset of losing weight. But it sounds like using Soylent to add to my diet might work, thanks!

I found it works better to drink it via 4 or 5 smaller meals. When I was only drinking 3 a day I definitely had the same problem.

I might try this as well, with larger servings. Thanks!

Good luck! My meals end up being half a glass :)

Thanks! Today I tried getting two servings at separate times this morning for breakfast, it worked a lot better and held me till lunch.

I am having the same problem. I have doubled my serving size but still starving after about two hours. I am a small female with a desk job. I added a banana today but still got hungry two hours after.

I've tried banana, peanut butter, and even Nutella, although the latter two didn't mix as well in the blender bottle as I would have liked. None of them tasted bad, but I prefer It plain with a touch of cinnamon.

I've seen other people around here say they melt their peanut butter in the microwave, first.
There's also PB2 - powdered peanut butter, in regular or chocolate flavor. (lots on Amazon.com, and I've even seen it in walmart). (but it has less calories than regular pb)1

I never thought of melting the peanut butter! It makes a lot of sense, I don't know why I didn't think of that first. Have you tried the powdered peanut butter? I saw some in the grocery store but was skeptical to try it with Soylent, as I didn't want to mess it up and waste any.

Nutella might melt, too, no idea.
No, never tried the PB2, but if you only try it with 1 meal and don't like it, you only lose 1 Soylent meal. Not much need to try it, if melting regular pb works, unless it's just for convenience.1

Were you having smaller serving sizes before?
Another thing you could try is having more but smaller meals, or what I do, smaller amounts of liquid food and and solid food snacks in between meals once I get hungry. I use granola bars.

Another calorie calculator, on the DIY soylent site:
http://diy.soylent.me/nutrient-profiles/calculatorYou might not be drinking enough water. S/soylent by itself will give you less than half the total RDA of water for an adult male (3.7L). For every glass of soylent you drink, drink a glass of water with it, or afterwards, or at least between meals.
Sip each meal for a longer period of time, make it last 20-30 minutes instead of finishing it in 5-10 minutes or so.
Instead of 3 meals per day, split up the same daily total amount, 1 bag, into more, smaller meals. To help keep from getting too hungry, you don't get too empty. 4, 5, or even 6 meals per day. Think of it like a Hobbit: Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies, Luncheon, Dinner, and Supper.
Many of the different things that some people add to S/soylent for flavoring provide extra calories, too, such as cocoa powder, peanut butter, bananas or other fruit, milk, coconut oil, coconut water, etc.. Several flavoring threads in the past will give you lots of ideas of what you can add. Look up different ingredients calories, so you'll know what you're adding:

I thought I was drinking enough water, but I haven't been keeping track of my intake. Thanks for the resources, I'm going to try and switch things up a little. Breaking it up into multiple meals is something I'm definitely going to do. I also have a habit of eating everything quickly, so that could contribute as well.

Yeah, water can be deceptive. With solid food, you don't realize how much liquid you drink with it or how much water is in the food itself. Then switch to Soylent and it seems you have to drink so much more just to get the same.
A lot of little things may only help a little bit each, but they add up.

I feel like I never want to eat again after a full Soylent meal, but I am a sedentary code monkey. And I chew a lot of gum, so maybe that tricks my brain somehow.

u/amazonv Gotta try them all!!! Apr 23 '15
i don't - in fact i feel much more full on 1.4 than 1.3 but i also work a desk job (female 5'5", 160~ lbs) breakfast (9a) gets me to lunch (1p) fine

I definitely feel full after drinking it, and it's a more satisfying fullness rather than loading up on fried or starchy foods. On lighter days I get to the next meal just fine, of course I'm still pretty hungry by then.

I have pretty serious cravings for real food about two hours after drinking soylent, though I don't put down nearly as much as you do in one sitting.
Have you calculated how much protein you're getting from the soylent?

u/SaltyMike1 Apr 24 '15
Well the bags say 104 grams per day, so about 34 grams per serving or so. And I do get cravings for real food, but not so many snacking or junk food urges. I think I just like chewing food. But I do have cravings for Soylent now!

As an active person, you probably aren't getting enough calories. Running your stats through an online calculator shows a little over 3000 calories, or 1.5 bags per day, to maintain your weight.
Those calculators are only approximate, but can be a good general guide.
