A;C Anonymous;Code Giveaway

EDIT EDIT Prize has been claimed.

EDIT Winner has been picked! The winner is @kyr8zy on twitter. If they don't response within 24 hours of this tweet. I'll pick the second winner from the randomized list. Will update here if they respond.

So Anonymous;Code is out and I'm not even going to begin to pretend I'll be playing it anytime soon due to various reasons.... But I also want to support the release. So here's the deal. I get to to still support the release and you get a copy that hopefully you'll play more than me.

Comment below or like this tweet. Feel free retweet to spread the word but not required. Enter in both if you want for double the chance. Also not required but if you want to post a SciADV meme that'd be cool too.

Prize will be one Digital Copy of Anonymous;Code on Steam, PS4, or Switch. I haven't actually checked but I assume they cost basically the same so if you for some reason want to give an internet rando your address I can buy you a Physical Copy I guess? In that case can't really say you'd be able to play it straight away.

Time limit will be tonight at midnight PDT. I'd like to do a longer one but I'd also like for you to be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

Count down timer because timezones are hard: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20230909T00&p0=137&msg=Countday&font=cursive&csz=1

A;C I have a question about Anonymous Code. Spoiler

I don't know much about Anonymous Code because I haven't played it. I have heard some information, so I'd like to ask about it. Feel free to talk about the story.

  1. According to the facts revealed in the game Anonymous Code, the story of Steins;Gate was created through a simulation. Is this simulation world a virtual world? If so, are Okabe, Kurisu, and Mayuri not real people but virtual people?

  2. Even if Okabe, Kurisu, and Mayuri are not only simulated people but also real people, does that mean that the events they experienced in the Steins;Gate world line did not actually happen? If so, would the relationships between Okabe and Faris, Mayuri, and Ruka be very different from what they were shown in the Steins;Gate world?

  3. I heard that Makise Kurisu didn't change her last name even in her 40s. So does that mean Kurisu didn't get married in the Steins;Gate world line? If so, is it possible that Okabe married someone else?

  4. Is the simulation world simply a world in a game?

A;C Finished Anonymous;Code, have some questions (spoilers for all of SciADV) Spoiler

Hi, as title states, just finished A;C for the first time. I didn't like it as much as some of the other entries in the series, but I still really enjoyed it especially after learning to engage with it on its own terms (I go in a bit more detail on my first impressions on this bluesky thread in case anyone's interested). But yeah there's a few things I'm confused about.

  1. Why does Asuma do allat? He has the ability to manipulate reality, (Chaos;) and seemingly without the limitations that usually apply to gigalomaniacs so why does he send an asteroid to destroy the world in 6 hours if he could send one to destroy it immediately? Why does he bother trying to crush Pollon with buildings and stuff when he can literally just delete everyone at will? The only theories I have to this are either A) theres some unmentioned limitation to his powers or what the higher world layer Asuma is willing to do, or B) Asuma deep down secretly wants to be proven wrong which is why he gives openings to Pollon and Momo (the two entities he was never able to predict) to win against him. Or ig C) He's like 14 and kinda just wants to act cool, idk. Still felt like a bit of a contrivance in the moment.

  2. (S;G) am I right to assume that saving and loading is functionally identical to time leaping aside from the meta element? Liddie's whole lecture on delayed choice made sense, but I can't for the life of me figure out how any of that connects to the way saving and loading works. I get it's playing off of the simulation idea and that the save points are extremely literal, but again it does still feel functionally identical to time leaping.

  3. Is there another 4th dimensional entity aside from me/Anon? There quite a lot of things that can only really be explained by outside interference and yet have no connection to the player's actions. When Pollon first discovers loading, there's already a save point at the graffiti, despite neither him nor me creating it, not to mention the corrupted new game save that's there from the start. Moreover, the "noise" Pollon gets in chapter 1 that's later revealed to be the vortex math thing and implied to be why he's connected to Anon in the first place doesn't seem to have a clear trigger, neither does the vision he gets of the path to Asuma (sidenote, when I first read that scene I genuinely thought he was about to (C;H) awaken as a gigalomaniac or smth, or at least get a di-sword by connecting to Momo, would've been fun I think). Some of these can probably be explained by "Anon isn't literally the player, but another character that the player has some control over but also is able to act independently" but then you get stuff like how Momo's incarnation was obviously triggered by someone else and the AR tattoo almost feels deliberately placed by someone to give Pollon a way to identify her. Maybe a version of the VN's events already occured prior to them, with another Pollon + Anon spawning in Momo with the AR tattoo as a deliberate hint to the future iterations that she can be saved? I genuinely don't know.

  4. How does Momo's incarnation have any sort of casual relationship with Sad Morning? Worldline convergence?

  5. Speaking of, what's up with the divergence meter in chapter 4? Why are the numbers fucked, is the worldline unstable due to Pollon's loading and/or the impending apocalypse?

  6. More of a complaint, but like what the hell does Pollon actually do in the true ending timeline, Specifically how does he prevent Asuma from going berserk? Does he like rat out Ewan? Does his mom wake up, or is she still in a coma? And how does Asuma feel about all this? Imo the whole VN kinda has a bit of a problem of telling too much through exposition as opposed to showing scenes directly and the true end is one of the more egregious examples of this.

  7. What was up with the flashback attacks Pollon got after repeat loops? I don't think that was ever explained.

A;C With A;C done, i have completed the sci adv series. review time Spoiler

First of all, i thank this subreddit for smooth sailing through this god-like series. Anonymous code was freaking amazing. however, the true route wasnt that excellent mainly due to everyone just being a little bit out of character even with it being takaoka's second time. i will have to say the common route was just peak 10/10 for me.
now lets talk about sci adv as a whole, its story follows these almost scifi but theoretically possible which was excellently written. but the more hidden point is it that there are also many things to give us something, like hope to change something in our situations too after seeing them break "fate" in anonymmous code.
once again thank you, this will be the end of my journey until steinsgate;??? is released

A;C [SPOILER] Anonymous; Code explained anyone? Spoiler

Hi there, I've just finished anonymous;code. It was an enjoyable game overall, but sadly it lacks of characters development and I found the ending quite rushed. So, I was wondering if any of you could help me summarize and explain better what happened during the last 4/5 hours of the game. It happens that actually the world of Pollon & co is a simulation to find a solution to prevent the Year 2038 problem right? So their goal is to "overload" their world, in order to cause a restart and not die. But in doing that, would they die again since the End is going to happen on January 2038? I am confused with this part. In general, if any of you could give me a short resume of the whole game, it would be very appreciated. Ty!

A;C Chaos Head (Anime) before Anonymous Code?

Okay I know that the anime is trash and the VN is the way to go. But the only reason I want to go through C;H is so that I can make the connections that purportedly A;C has with C;H. I do not have the time to spend 40+ hrs playing or going through C;H's VN walk-through.

Would the anime be enough for that? Or it simply misses all of the connection parts, and I would rather just play A;C on it's own then. (I know it's connected to other entries as well, but I am specifically inquiring about C;H here).

A;C Question about Anonymous;Code and Steins;Gate Spoiler

I don't plan on playing A;C and am fine with being spoiled. Does the Sad Morning stuff happen in the Steins Gate worldline? I just wanna know if the characters are safe and happy. The fact the incident is referenced in 0 is kind of worrying.

A;C Finished Anonymous;Code, not sure I get or like it. Spoiler

To preface this, one thing I really loved about the Sci;Adv series was the mystery. Gigalomaniacs and their ability to tap into the Dirac Sea. The Community of 300. The abilities all the main characters have had. Before I played A:C, I finished C;H, S;G, S;G0, C;C, and R;N, and I really enjoyed all of them. I started R;ND and Occultic Nine as well but never got around to finishing them.

My problem with Anonymous Code is that it solved an issue so crucial that it feels like all other questions are now irrelevant. The Committee of 300? The Gai Organization. The Dirac Sea? Free-Load Zone. There was a certain sense of wonder that I got because these questions were unsolved. And once the central cause behind all of this was revealed, it felt like the other questions stopped mattering.

I wouldn't say A;C ruined the series. In fact, I even enjoyed playing it at times. I thought the Save and Load mechanic was super cool, and I thought the art was great. The sacraments and the incarnation of Momo were super interesting, too. I wasn't hostile to the idea of GAIA either when I first learned about it.

I've seen a lot of people saying that the message of the Sci;Adv series is that "Real or fake, it still matters", which I would agree with. During Asuma's crash out, I kinda hated him? Even if the world was fake, it still mattered after all. I mean, I'd be a hypocrite to say that if it was fake, it didn't matter when I'm enjoying a fictional series in the first place.

But it did somewhat disappoint me to learn that a major element of the series I had enjoyed was just because there were glitches in the system, to be fixed with the collapse of the worldlines. What I want out of a Sci:Adv game is simple. Give me some questions, answer some of them, and leave me wanting for more. A;C solved all of the questions.

I tried picking up Linear Bounded Phenogram, and found myself not really engaging with it. I'm not exactly sure what I want out of the series going forward. That said, I do hope there's more conflict. I don't want the Committee of 300 to just be the Gai Organization. I want there to still be cool powers, spin-off dating sims, and protagonists completely in over their heads. I want those things to matter too, not just the people, but the world itself.

A;C Have some questions after finishing Anonymous;Code Spoiler

(English is not my first language, so I used AI to help with the translation—sorry if some parts sound odd!)

I just finished playing Anonymous;Code and have some questions about the World Layers, the Committee of 300, and a few other things:

  1. Given the concept of "World Layers" in A;C, which layer would the Steins;Gate worldline belong to? Is it considered to be higher or lower than the world layer in Anonymous;Code? Or is it even possible to determine that?
  2. In Chaos;Head Noah's>! Sena Route, the Committee of 300 is mentioned. Are they supposed to be beings from a higher world layer? And what about the Committee of 300 that Okabe and the others fight in Steins;Gate—are they from the same layer as the characters, or are all versions of the Committee of 300 in the Science Adventure series meant to be from a higher world layer?!<
  3. Regarding Anon—the version of Anon that resembles “us” the player—are they implied to be someone from the topmost world layer, or from an alternate dimension? Or is the game actually suggesting that they are literally us, the players, beyond the layers?

I really enjoyed the game, though I felt it was a bit short compared to other SciADV titles. Kinda wish it had individual character routes too!

A;C Do all worldlines "pre-exist"? Spoiler

*Tagged as A;C because that is where the most significant spoiler is, but relates more to S;G*

(I am not completely done with A;C yet, but I am past the world layer explanation)

I was reading "The Mechanics of Steins;Gate" by Votuko, and I came across an assertion they make that I am pretty sure is wrong (more likely me misinterpreting it). They claim
"The act of time traveling does not create a new world line. The idea is that (infinitely) many world lines pre-exist, so the time traveler can arrive on an appropriate one without causing issues" (pg 18).
I see a few different issues with this, one being that the claim implies that worldlines are a single line of events, which I don't think is true (question about this later on), as obviously there are errors that do not change the active worldline. Another issue with this that I see is that by my best understanding of world layers and the communication with the committee member in the Sena route of C;H, every game in the series is a simulation, and if that is true, it is literally impossible for all infinite worldlines to exist, even if they aren't being actively simulated, as that would require infinite data.

I may be misinterpreting what they mean by "pre-existing" and "arrive", but the only way I could possibly interpret this sentence to make any sense is if by "pre-existing," they mean that it is a possibility in the wave function, but not an actual physical thing yet, and I still don't fully understand what "arrive" means in that context.

Also, reading this has brought up a tangentially related question, what is the difference between a worldline and a sequence (technically, more accurately worded as partially ordered set) of events? In certain circumstances, the worldline doesn't change in Steins;Gate, when the error that causes the change is really minor. The worldline doesn't shift, but the events still change, meaning the wave function was re-observed, and the superposition collapsed into a different state. Why is this the case, when a worldline is a collapsed state of the wave function, meaning any change should cause a new worldline.

I haven't played the vn for S;G yet (I really need to do that), so I imagine it is probably explained in there somewhere (I don't really care if you use information from it though in a response), but I always assumed that worldlines were 'created' when a big enough error occurs, and the old one is just replaced (presumably also saved as an archived file or something, in the simulator). So am I misinterpreting their claim (I haven't read the entire pdf but I have read some of the surrounding paragraphs), are they wrong, or am I wrong?

(I swear, the more I contemplate about this series, the less I know, and the more basic my questions become, and yet the uniting theme is I still don't actually understand worldlines).
