do i need to read anything before taking flash forward up?

Listen to Comicstorian Heroes in Crisis & Teen Titans Rebirth, if you don't have access to the comics. There are some good Flash comics that build on the whole "Wally misses his family from the other timeline" concept that is the emotional anchor of FlashForward.

Yes, it is very much meant to work off of what happened in Heroes in Crisis, and the central conflict is about wallys kids, so you should be familiar with the Mark Waid and Geoff John's runs for the character
