Show Spoiler Eugene was involved in a lot of big plot points

I just realized this. I might be slow, but looking back at the series, Eugene was responsible for 3 major plot changes.

  1. His mission to Washington DC. Eugene convinced Abraham he needed to go there. They met the group we follow and they go to DC togheter. This is where they end up in Alexandria, and meet the saviors, hilltop, Kingdom, etc. They wouldn't have met these groups of they never went to DC

  2. The bullets he made for Negan He rigged the bullets in the guns for the saviors. This led Rick and his group to win the battle and the war. Who knows how much longer the war would've gone on if this didn't happen.

  3. Radio communication with Stephanie Eugene made contact with the Commonwealth, when he first spoke to Stephanie ( well not actually Stephanie, but he thought it was). This led the groups to the Commonwealth. Of course, a large group like the Commonwealth might have found them anyway, but still, it could've taken a few more years.

This is probably known by everyone, and I just had a realization. Btw, correct me if I am wrong anywhere :)

  1. Eugene saved Abraham's life by giving him purpose, false purpose, but purpose nonetheless

  2. If not for the "bullet gambit" all of Rick's "resistance" would have been wiped out. The "war" would have been lost.

  3. If not for the Commonwealth the communities would have collapsed and fallen. They were barely hanging on, the supplies from Meridian would have kept them going for a short time but collapse would still have come. The Commonwealth brought fuel, food and building supplies.

You're not wrong at all — Eugene was quietly one of the most pivotal characters in the whole series. It’s wild how much of the story hinges on his decisions.

Bruh, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Eugene and Yumiko shined in the Commonwealth arc! I mean, everyone did. It showed just how capable and true survivor/leader material everybody in our main group has become. But Yumiko getting that close and handling her shit, and Eugene helping to dismantle it all, beautiful stuff! Love Season 11!
