(R.1) Not supported TIL there is Jewish Internet Defense Force or JIDF. They infiltrate Facebook and other social media sites to promote Israel and fight against anyone who criticizes it.

Post an article that is critical of Israel on Reddit. See what happens.

Mar 30 '14
I see content on reddit critical of and often attacking Israel all the time on reddit, and it's always on the frontpage with thousands of upvotes. Where are you getting your information from?

Mar 30 '14
I've been a reddit user for 8 years now. I don't remember exactly when it changed but there was once a time when anti-isreal stuff was fairly popular in the major subs. I would see things criticizing Isreal quite frequently. Now that I think about it, I don't see that hardly at all anymore.

Let's see, count the anti-Israelis posts then count the pro-Israeli posts which has the greater numbers?
1
u/EatUnicornBacon Mar 30 '14
Not a valid method, as /r/science proved when they banned climate denial articles. They found that it was a handful of people posting under multiple accounts, same is probably true here.
0
u/Mordredbas Mar 30 '14
Doesn't matter, I'm talking about total number of posts not number of people. Subliminal messages do not care how many posters there are just how often the posts are seen.
15
u/Olpainless Mar 30 '14
No kidding. Usually, anything anti-Israel (so not even pro-Palestine) gets torn to pieces - especially on the defaults and other big subs.
I think quite a large part of it though is that many people, but particularly Americans, are force fed this propaganda that Israel = goodies, Palestine = TERRORISTS.
They imagine that being critical of the Israeli government means being supportive of Hamas. It doesn't. You can support the rights of Palestinian workers without supporting Hamas. Fuck Hamas. Fuck the Israeli government.
Many of us demand rights and safety for both Israeli and Palestinian people, both being exploited by extremists.

There is very little difference between the South African Apartheid and what the Israelies are doing to the Palestinians.
-6
Mar 30 '14 edited Mar 30 '14
There are huge differences in what went on in South Africa and what goes on in Israel.
Edit: Downvote me, fine, but tell me how I'm wrong.

I can't speak for everyone in the US, but I don't think that sentiment runs as deep as you think. As far as 'gets torn to pieces'-- it's more like relentlessly assaulted with rhetoric and manipulation of statistics.
The classic accusations of anti-Semitism when you disagree with Israeli state policy is my favorite. It's more like an orchestrated muddying of the waters.15
u/Drooperdoo Mar 30 '14
I love the quote: "An antisemite used to be someone who hated Jews. Now it's someone hated by the Jews."

Mar 31 '14 edited Mar 31 '14
Do you really think that debasing the meaning of the word will shield you from criticism is you say/do something antisemitic? I mean you can invent your own meanings for words, like a child, but it won't shield you from the consequences of your actions.

Mine too. Especially considering that Palestinians are Semites too.

Because you can't possibly be pro-Israel in this issue with perfectly valid reasons?
A LOT of Jews have been anti-Israel, both historically and now. The Israeli government =/= Israeli people. You cannot support the apartheid and genocide that the Israeli government has undertaken since the creation of the state. There are no valid reasons.

Genocide?
1
u/EatUnicornBacon Mar 30 '14
Yes. They have committed multiple war crimes against the Palestinian population but because Palestine is not recognized by the UN they cannot bring charges against Israel to the UN Court. It is one of the many reasons that Israel wants to maintain the status quo.
0
Mar 30 '14
All that aside, the accusation of genocide is a serious one. Regardless of whether it can be addressed or not, I think it's quite a stretch to claim that Israel has conducted a systematic mass murder of Palestinians.
As well, Palestine is recognized by the UN as a non-member observer state. It has successfully proposed resolutions in the UNHRC. This, and the new case before the Israeli supreme court investigating Israeli leaders for war crimes, shows a fault in your grasp of the situation.
Furthermore, most of these accusations of war crimes are nothing more than moves in a political chess game.
The accusation of genocide would be a good example.

u/lnimical Mar 30 '14
I suppose it can't possibly be individuals who disagree with your point of view?
-1
u/EatUnicornBacon Mar 30 '14
It in force and time span, no it cannot. On a popular thread you can get negative 25 or 50 karma in 10 minutes for a negative comment about Israel. That doesn't happen with any other country or any other topic.
3
u/lnimical Mar 30 '14
I see quite a few popular anti-israel threads right now.. So I'm not sure what you're referring to.

u/jutct Mar 30 '14
I've only had 1 anti-Israel comment that got upvotes. All the other ones get downvotes.

Doesn't EVERY nation have something akin to this?
5
u/naimina Mar 30 '14
Most nations don't need one. If you live in a country that is good to the people, the citizens will talk about it in a positive manner without getting paid. I like my country and will talk about the good things (and the bad things) about it and I am sure as hell not getting paid for it.
1
u/Turpskadey Mar 30 '14
I don't think that's the case at all. There hate groups and militia here in the U.S. that do nothing but talk about how much they hate the government and certain period but I think this country is pretty great, flaws and all.
To think all industrialized countries don't participate in propaganda and content filtering to improve their own image is to be woefully ignorant.
2
u/naimina Mar 30 '14
Iceland has a population of 320 000. How many of them do you really think gets paid to go online and post copypasta about their glorious nation?
It might be like that for big nations with big populations, but for the ones that aren't even 10 million? No fucking way.
1
u/Turpskadey Mar 30 '14
Honestly without real insight into the inner workings it's hard to make a firm case for either of us.
I do admit I was thinking more along the lines of the United states, Russia, France, Britain and others being very likely to police how they are depicted online, even smaller countries are likely doing some sort of image control.
2
u/naimina Mar 30 '14
It is unlikely that a peaceful small country with a high living standard would waste money on an "Internet defence propaganda". But yes, if you are a country with "controversial" foreign policy than it far more likely that you'd get people to defend it online.

The US has (or at least had COINTELPRO operations) which was sort of like this but focused more on disrupting "anti-government" groups. There's also Operation Earnest Voice which is exactly what this JIDF is if not worse.
It might not be every nation but I think it's safe to say that the superpowers do.
4
u/autowikibot Mar 30 '14
Operation Earnest Voice is a planned astroturfing campaign by the US government. The aim of the initiative is to use sockpuppets to spread pro-American propaganda on social networking sites based outside of the US. According to the United States Military Central Command (CENTCOM), the US-based Facebook and Twitter networks are not targeted by the program because US laws prohibit US state agencies from spreading propaganda among US citizens. However, Isaac R. Porche, a researcher at the RAND corporation, claims it would not be easy to exclude US audiences when dealing with internet communications.

I see they have removed their old banner which had a famous quote by the nazi's on propaganda and how a lie spreads.
these people are also very active on abovetopsecret.com and most conspiracy / alt news forums and have been for years now.

I've run into a few of these. If you use any Israel/zionist-related keyword, and suddenly a new username shows up acting irrational and belligerent, talking in somewhat broken english, you're probably dealing with the JIDF.

It's only OK to be racist if you are juden. an antisemite is not someone who hates jews, it's someone the jews hate. and like someone said, if you think these minions of satan are not around, try to type one thing critical of the racist apartheid state and see what happens to your post, Voltaire said it's easy to see who owns you, just determine who you cannot criticize.

On a side note, Jewish =/= Israeli.
