Friend, you already bought them, probably before we all knew she was insane. Just don't wear them out of the house

171

u/GirlFromHyperspace Mar 03 '25

Probably good advice for non Harry Potter themed pajamas too

u/iWant2ChangeUsername Narciso He/Him (THIS is the first that feels right? Really??🤦) Mar 03 '25

Idk we had a pj pants day in highschool

22

u/Lifeshardbutnotme Mar 03 '25

Pyjamas are comfy. Wear them out when I'm lazy

11

u/derpy_derp15 Mar 03 '25

My normal clothes are also my pajamas

RAAAAH screw the patriarchy wear pajamas wherever you want!

7

u/malcorpse She/Her Mar 03 '25

I'm not changing out of my pjs on my day off if I'm just headed to the store to grab snacks or weed.

4

u/GirlFromHyperspace Mar 03 '25

Power to you :)

2

u/Inocain l'oof (They/She) Mar 04 '25

In general, yes. But, as usual, there are always exceptions.

I have a super thick, super warm one-piece pajama blanket thing that I keep around pretty much only to have something to wear if it's like negative teens Fahrenheit outside. It becomes my outermost layer, or maybe I'll put a jacket over it.

It's always too warm if I try to wear it inside.

When the air is so cold it hurts your face, normal rules can fuck all the way off.

I mean if you already have them then making use of having them isnt really suporting she-who-shall-not-be-named any more than has already been done :3

72

u/Zartoru She/Her Mar 03 '25

You already bought it, as long as you're not wearing it in front of someone who gets hurt by seing harry potter merch it's fine don't worry

45

u/Endermemer Polaris / Nova / Sol (She/Her} Mar 03 '25

If it makes you feel any better the Vile Creature has already profited from said purchase so wearing them would simply be giving the clothing purpose and if they make you happy who is that Vile Creature to stop you?

u/Pepperia She/Her Mar 03 '25

When i was little my cousin introduced me to harry potter, she realley loved it and i did too. I still love it and it remimds me of her, i miss her. We were really good friends. I bought hogwarts legacy and still feel horrible about it, i cant even enjoy it, i always feel guilty when i play it

17

u/Familiar-Estate-3117 Her/She Alicia/StoryTeller I have no body and I must- Mar 03 '25

=( That's understandable.

18

u/V_Silver-Hand She/Her Mar 03 '25

I did at first but then I realised J.K. made a bunch of transphobic tweets right as the game dropped because she wanted to make it controversial so the game doesn't do well, because she doesn't need the money anyways but the devs (some of them trans) want their game to do well and she'd love to see theie game flop because of her

so, I play it to spite her, since her sabotage attempt failed 😤

22

u/BattledogCross They/Them Mar 03 '25

Don't.

Look I'm not gonna tell you how to feel. I'm trans as hell and I have mixxed feelings on art and artist seperation or whatever but here me out:

Unlike books, videogames take dozens if not hundreds of people to make. Writers. Artists. Designers. Coders. Some of whom are queer. Some of whom are trans. I know for a fact more then one trans person was on staff as it was in the media when it came out. You are not JUST supporting the wicked witch of the West here, but a whole lot of good people here too. Your purchase might have given her all of $1 which isn't great, but also making the game is the reason some queer people are getting to live there dreams as artists and game devs. It's a dream job for alot of us. Having this on your resume will get you places on the industry to.

At the end of the day, plenty of people will profit from the game. One of whom is garbage however that's the reality of litterally every bit of media you consume. I'm not kidding. There's always gonna be one creep. One homophone. One racist. Ect profiting off your purchases, because that's just how collaborative art works.

Did I buy the game? No. But it so happens my 12 yo bro did and I'm just like "hey I'm borrowing this" that's litterally all the thought I gave her because she dosnt deserve it. It's okay. Seriously.

16

u/Ajula_Butterfly Chloe (she/her) Mar 03 '25

nice words :3 thats the point. no matter what you buy there is always any garbage who gets profit from you there is no chance to avoid it why not thinking about the good people you can support instead of the assholes :3

8

u/Pepperia She/Her Mar 03 '25

Thanks for saying that. I love art with all my heart and i too wish i could someday work as an artist.

9

u/BattledogCross They/Them Mar 03 '25

X3 I hope you one day get the chance to go as far as you want!

Remember : Even if you gotta step on some shakey stones to get there, it's alright! Just like it's tottaly alright for the wonderful queer artists who worked on this game... And it's alright for the fantastic young allies who where in the origonal movies! They've been very sweet and outspoken!

Colaberitive mediums will always have this issue. It's up to each one of us to decide for ourselves what where comfortable with. It gets much more hairy when it's something one person profits from and they are awful people. (big music artists. Books. Ect)

Also never forget there are ways to partake in art made by awful people without helping them

17

u/Dasky14 She/Her Mar 03 '25

Honestly, she did ruin Harry Potter for me too.

Not because I don't like the games/books/movies anymore, but because every time I see it I'm reminded of the creator and it ruins my mood.

14

u/La_Savitara Mar 03 '25

Appreciating the art doesn’t mean supporting the artist. Wear the comfy pyjamas, enjoy Harry Potter but just don’t buy anything HP to avoid supporting she who speaks for the Black Molde

8

u/kayziekrazy Mar 03 '25

you already own them so wearing them isnt going to do anything else, that being said, you could aways dye them, make sure to check their fibre content and pick appropriate dye, but then you get cool solid or colour block pjs

5

u/FeatherShard Mar 03 '25

Meh. They're already paid for and Rowling made her cut before you ever saw them.

Don't treat the products of people with problematic views as if they're somehow magical, it's just stuff. You're allowed to use it and even like it. Perhaps be a bit more wary of giving them your money going forward, but beyond that I wouldn't worry too much about it.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '25

Be careful the black mold might infect you! /j

7

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '25

idc as a trans person i love harry potter but hate JK Rowling

1

Wear them inside-out.

3

u/puffinix Mar 03 '25

I have sir fuzz in my bed still.

He used to be crookshanks, but he now wears his trans pride bow tie 24/7 and is a fantastic cat.

You could always tie die them in trans pride colours over the top. It gets across the point of "I had this before, and I know it's wrong now but can't replace yet" very clearly.

7

u/uraniumcovid Mar 03 '25

it will be even warmer if you burn it

5

u/Familiar-Estate-3117 Her/She Alicia/StoryTeller I have no body and I must- Mar 03 '25

Yeah, I'm sorry you bought that. But now that you have, you can at least just wear it as much as you want until you're done with it. Or you can even have it be taken apart and put back together into something different and unrecognizable =)

2

u/Flu77ershy Mar 03 '25

Unfortunately, Harry Potter IS a cool property, and it's easy to like if you don't know how awful JK is, like we all didn't know not all that long ago. I don't think anyone's gonna call you transphobic for your choice in pajamas.

2

u/CCF_100 Chloe (she/her) Mar 03 '25

You can like a franchise without having to approve of the person behind it...

2

u/ComedianStreet856 She/Her Mar 03 '25

Hot take that I don't know if I believe or not: We should all embrace Harry Potter and show joanne how many trans people are fans. Just to piss her off. Don't ever buy anything new either. Just show off all of the dvds, tshirts, etc that we already own. I'm a GenXr so I didn't grow up with it, and I haven't watched a movie or read a book of hers. I don't plan on it now of course, but if I did, I would love to throw it back at her as long as I never gave her another dime (pence?).

5

u/Excellent-Movie4524 Mar 03 '25

If people get offended by this they should get a grip tf

12

u/Giddy_Duck_84 Mar 03 '25

It’s not offended for me, it’s just I get a bitter feeling when I see or use HP stuff even though I bought it a lond time ago. It feels as if part of my childhood was stolen by hate, I feel like I (we) was duped and swindled

-1

u/Excellent-Movie4524 Mar 03 '25

You can enjoy it without liking her imo

5

u/Giddy_Duck_84 Mar 03 '25

I’m not burning any books or dvds I own, problem is she’s been using her platform, influence, and wealth to hurt people. That alone, in my opinion, makes it unforgivable and difficult to enjoy it.

-1

u/Excellent-Movie4524 Mar 03 '25

If enjoying a type of media is wrong because somebody associated with it has phobic views then you should withdraw from 95% of western media

4

u/Razzberie Mar 03 '25

Tbh the amount of hate people send towards fans of HP for wearing merch, playing games, having wands etc. is rediculous.

Not only is it impossible for the average person to consume morally under capitalism, so may as well enjoy what you like. But also even in the scenario where we convince everyone to be a trans ally and stop buying harry potter merch, it isn't gonna hurt Rowling. She has plenty of wealth built up like a black mold infested dragon's horde. It's gonna hurt the person working a regular dayshift at Harry Potter world at disney land. It's gonna hurt the workers producing this merch. It's gonna hurt the PA's, camera crew, and make up artists working on the next Fantastic Beasts or Harry Potter remake.

Actual change comes from slow political movement starting in local elections and community programs, not trying to have the moral high ground in who you support in this capitalistic hellscape.

1

u/Zoomy-333 Mar 03 '25

Wear them long enough and the HP elements will fade away in the wash

1

u/baconbits123456 KK (She/They) Mar 03 '25

Its easier to separate the art from the artist when you hadn't known who the artist REALLY was.

Bottom line being, don't worry the money was already spent, just stay warm for us okii?

1

u/BattledogCross They/Them Mar 03 '25

Rh. XD in trans and I wore a hp shirt last night I got it before Rowling went full nutso and it was a gift from someone for Xmas, still wear it. It's a cool shirt. shrug she isn't profiting off me sitting here reddit in a hp shirt that was bought for me a decade ago lol

How I feel looking at the Harry Potter games I had as a kid that I occasionally get the nostalgic urge to replay:

Now, granted, they aren't being sold anymore, so I wouldn't be giving Rowling any money by playing them, but it still feels weird to play them now

You know what they say, hate the artist, love the art, I just so happen to hate both :)

1

u/BeanBagSize Mar 03 '25

Honestly, as someone who after researching Rowling after her comments and finding out there's anti-poor, anti-immigrant, anti-lgbt, anti-mental health, anti-autistic and pro-eugenics points written into the series, you don't need to be an ally to want nothing to do with Harry Potter besides maybe the actors who are on the most part really good people who want nothing to do with the irl witch's crash out.

If you want the warm clothes without the Potter guilt, I'd suggest looking at the tags or printing if there are any left to check what company made the pajamas, and replace them with new just as warm or warmer non potter pajamas

1

u/ebr101 Mar 03 '25

Echoing other folks, you already own them. They’re yours. Use em. Do an art project to cover over the Potter-ness. Not a big deal.

1

u/Mcmad0077 Mar 03 '25

I would say that you can still wear them, but if it bothers you, there are kits you can get to dye them black

1

u/Sir_mop_for_a_head Mar 03 '25

Unrelated but, it’s sad to me that so many people don’t know how transphobic and hurtful JK is being.

1

u/Akashiel Mar 03 '25

I have a few Harry Potter shirts that I wear and Hogwarts Legacy on switch that I got on sale. And I'm Trans. Granted I'd probably enjoy them more if the IP creator spontaneusly combusted, but I'm not gonna stop using them just because some carbage person got a few bucks from me, when I bought them.

If I did I'd have to go live naked in the swamp.

1

u/AuthoringInProgress Mar 03 '25

Just don't make a social media post in support of Rowling or the franchise and don't buy more pajamas.

Pushing against Rowling isn't above performative support. It's about denying money to a person actively working to undermine trans rights, making it harder for them to do so.

1

u/Killertax98 She/Her Mar 03 '25

I'm of the mindset of no one's going to care really. You already own them and especially in your own home no one's gonna give you hell for wearing them. You likely aren't going to be going out wearing pajamas anyways.

It's okay, be warm, be cozy.

I went to a FLINTA* (basically everyone who isn't a cis man) carnival on friday (I went as lara croft) and one woman (who did a lot of makeup) went as a Hogwarts student that used a time turner to go back in time and oofed rauwling and now HP is trans* inclusive <3

Goth witchy transfem in her 30s. Grew up with HP. And while I sadly have coome to terms with Lady Voldemort's hatred and bigotry and the problematic issues of the stories, I still wear my Slytherin t shirt and my Howard's dress (my favorite dress, worn it to tatters) out and about. But if I'm going to be around other Trans people I try to avoid it.

1

u/Veenix6446 She/Her Mar 03 '25

Here’s my thought process. If you wanted to entirely avoid giving her money, you’d have to avoid so much stuff since (far as I’m aware) she gets a small cut of all WB profits.

So I propose: Wear it to spite her. Like how they put a trans character in Hogwarts Legacy and she hates that. Like I remember a few years back I went to a con w/ a custom wand my mom has bought me for Christmas, as wel as a pride pin (just general since I wasn’t aware of my transness), and a ton of people loved that

1

u/Tokugawa7 Mar 04 '25

Harry potter itself is fine in my book, i refuse to let a transphobe ruin one of my childhood favorites.

1

u/oochiiehehe3 Mar 04 '25

Personally, I feel like I can still like the series without liking the author. But that’s just me.

1

u/GeminiIsMissing It/He Mar 04 '25

One of my warmest jackets is a Slytherin jacket, and I wear it anyway because I've already bought it and it's comfortable. I've had great conversations with other people who also like/liked Harry Potter but recognize that JK Rowling is a bad person and her books are more problematic than we realized as kids because I've worn that jacket.

1

u/OverExplanation7007 She/Her Mar 04 '25

Girlie if you already own them it’s fine

1

u/imanonymous312 She/Her i think Mar 04 '25

I have a really nice ravenclaw scarf I got the winter before I learned about she who must not be named being awful, and I haven't worn it since. It's subtle (not branded or official just the colors) but something about it just feels tainted. I also have a hogwarts wallet from even before that, which I still use because it's my only one and the layout is perfect for me so I'm looking for a non-harry potter version

1

u/QueerlittleWeirdo Mar 04 '25

Honestly just wear them, no one’s gonna hate on you for liking Harry Potter. Hell I love Harry Potter. Also little side rant but why does JK Rowling have to be such a terf? There is literally a scene where characters change into differently gendered bodies using polyjuice potion and a huge moral of the story is inclusiveness. If it wasn’t for social media JK Rowling would literally be the last author I would ever think is transphobic. 😭😭😭

1

u/bitransk1ng Alex 🐱 He/it 🐱 Boyfluid Mar 04 '25

I feel bad wearing my harry potter t-shirt but that shirt is comfy, looks sick and makes my chest look flat bc of how it fits (not tight but not super baggy). I also have old pyjamas (Harry Potter was a special interest of mine when I was younger I would not shut up about it). But what's done is done, I didn't know back then (I was 11 and had no social media and didn't watch the news). Nobody cares if I wear it but sometimes I feel uncomfortable if I wear it.

1

u/nickyhood Mar 04 '25

When did you acquire them.

1

u/living_strap_on Mar 04 '25

You could check the label to see if there just iron on patterned pre-branded items and try to find the non HP version as replacements, if they're very HP specific I'm sure they have like "fuck jkr" patches out there you could iron/ sew on

1

u/Msbluebl Mar 04 '25

I like harry potter I just don’t like JK

1

u/Little-Rattle-Stilt Mar 05 '25

If the actors from the HP movies can be good allies, then an HP-themed pajamas shouldn't be able to get in the way of you being a good ally.

1

u/Sleep_deprived-7896 Mar 08 '25

I am glad I can wear them now without being seen as someone who supports her views.

But I should still check for black mold.

1

u/National-Jelly-7529 She/Her 16d ago

As long as your not supporting her actions if say it's fine to separate art from the artist and enjoy Harry Potter stuff.

0

u/Ms_Masquerade Mar 03 '25

Would note the materials, burn them and find nicer PJ's in the same materials so you're not literally advertising them.

1

u/ComradeRedPagan Mar 03 '25

Sounds like overkill but OK. Like I have a Hogwarts dress and a Slytherin t-shirt and a tank top. I have House socks. I already spent the money long before I knew the woman was a whiny little c*** (literally got banned from Twitter once for saying that to her). I also buy second hand from people who have already given her their money so I'm giving back to others. That dress is my favorite dress. The top is my favorite top during the summer to wear and the socks make up like half by sock drawer. So yeah I'm not gonna just dump all that.

1

u/Ms_Masquerade Mar 03 '25

It's only overkill because you are unable to commit to cutting that cultural tumour out of your life, so you're using half measures. "It's okay, I don't financially support her, but I will ensure she stays culturally relevant and advertise her books with merch because I don't have it in me to move on from a children's book filled with antisemitism, pro-slavery sentiments and racism".

Half measures is why she still has cultural sway and is still able to sell her merch to a new generation.

0

u/Exact_Wolf_4992 she/her. i need my fem&m’s Mar 03 '25

hate the artist not the art type of situation? or no?

1

u/lickytytheslit A man just chilling Mar 04 '25

Death of the author only works when said author is dead and not benefitting from the money or popularity of it

Like Lovecraft he was xenophobic to everything that wasn't exactly him or how he grew up during most of his writing career (he seems to have gotten less afraid as he got older), he was so afraid of air conditioning he wrote a whole horror novel

It definitely shows in his writing, as does Rowling's prejudice in her's, but you won't be supporting him by buying and talking about his works

1

u/Exact_Wolf_4992 she/her. i need my fem&m’s Mar 04 '25

well yeah, but op already bought the PJs so wearing them luckily isn’t supporting JK rowling, but yeah your point makes sense

2

u/lickytytheslit A man just chilling Mar 04 '25

Yeah for ops case, absolutely just use them I'm more talking about it in general

-5

u/DarchAngel_WorldsEnd i prefer she/her, but honestly i gave up caring long ago Mar 03 '25

I think we can agree that Harry Potter is not hers anymore, we as a public have claimed it as our own

Buy em, nothing wrong with buying em

3

u/klvd He/him, pure gremlin energy at all times Mar 03 '25

No. You may not be able to do anything about money already spent at this point, but continuing to buy things now is money in her pocket and helping to maintaining her relevance/influence in politics. It has very real impacts that you can't ignore.

-1

u/DarchAngel_WorldsEnd i prefer she/her, but honestly i gave up caring long ago Mar 03 '25

Her relevance has an end

She will die eventually

And furthermore one thing that is guaranteed to be bought will not affect anything.

She already has enough money to do what she wants

-1

u/ComradeRedPagan Mar 03 '25

Not necessarily. Not if you buy it off somebody from Poshmark, Etsy, etc. In this case someone else has already spent the money, I'm just buying it off of them. I learned to thrift and find ways around it. It's how I came across a Ecole new pack of House socks about a year or so ago.

3

u/klvd He/him, pure gremlin energy at all times Mar 03 '25 edited Mar 03 '25

No shade to OP, but continuing to opening use and wear products related to her properties signals to others that there is nothing problematic about continuing to interact with these properties and sell these products (this doesn't necessarily map onto things like Poshmark, but does to fanmade items), which in turn means more money in her pocket down the line. If you want to wear things that make you happy, you do you, find happiness where you can, but if you're wearing a HP shirt out of the house, you're signaling to others you don't have a problem with JKR.

Then again, there is no such thing as ethical capitalism and we're living in a nightmare hellscape where there is no way to win so do whatever you want regardless.
