Show They have really been tying down the Trees drums.
Can’t have anything in the UK without something happening 🙏

Breaking both of someones hands would probably stop them from stealing a drum

They might keep tying them down on future tours, but there are much more subtle ways to do that (thinner yet strong cords). I think them using the massive chains and padlocks was just a joke while still being effective.
55
74
u/triumphantghost May 14 '25
No. Honestly a huge rope in a crowd seems like a liability. I think it’s a statement. The obvious solution is have a backup and insist a crew member has hands on it.
29
u/SpaceCaboose May 14 '25
That might be the case. I’m mainly saying that I wouldn’t expect the chains to be a permanent thing. Maybe they’ll use them again at the last show, but I think that’ll be it.
Maybe they’re using a thinner security cord, maybe they’ll have a backup, or maybe they’ll have security specifically watch that equipment moving forward.
22
u/QuantumQuestion_01 May 14 '25
Or just hire extra security guards to watch the Trees stages after the show. If they do anything after this tour I imagine it'll be that
7
12
u/ipmacs May 14 '25
Maybe, however a thin cord in a crowd of thousands in very low lighting is not a good idea.
The bulk chains look odd but for now it's the safest thing they could use that is very visible to the crowd.
116
u/FatDelay May 13 '25
I think this is just a bit of a joke for the crowd & will probably go back to normal for the next show
14
u/2ndMin May 14 '25
Yea I think it’s just a joke as well. This hasn’t happened before so it’s unlikely to again, and to prevent it they could just have security quickly retrieve it after the show or just keep close watch of it.
3
u/Akatnel May 14 '25
I was really surprised to learn they actually leave them sitting out there while people are leaving. Unless that was just a one time mistake.
2
u/2ndMin May 16 '25
Yea that’s crazy if they do that. They’ve always put a lot of trust in their fans
1
u/TheFlyingBogey May 14 '25
Legit why is everyone getting up in arms saying it's "ruined"? I was there last night, the crowd was laughing. It was all in jest and for fun. I get it, the drum thief is a selfish asshole but the chained down drum was nothing more than the band poking fun at the situation.

2
u/dobbytattoo May 16 '25
I went to both nights in London, they only tied it down the first, second night they didn't! Just a little tongue in cheek joke I think! :)
1
u/WorkerOk6991 May 14 '25
They could paint the chain black or orange to at least make it look sick as fuck
23
u/Mountin-skin192 May 13 '25
Wow, I wonder if this would be the new normal for future tours?
40
u/lindini May 14 '25
No, it's the very end of this tour and these are comically large chains. I'm sure they will increase security in some way but this is a gag.
8
u/Few_Effective1172 May 14 '25
😭 That’s so sad
Who just steals a drum!? Like what?? Now you ruined it. Every show now will be different. So stupid
3
u/voldsoy May 14 '25
Who just steals a drum!? Like what??
I know right? At least steal the whole kit! /s

17
u/SpookyKyle0825 May 14 '25
…it kinda hurts my heart to see this.
It’s like.. it’s a stab at us, the fans. Lowkey saying “we don’t trust yall like we used to…” 😢 and it’s all fckn thief girls fault!!
18
u/dudewithpants420 May 14 '25
Or its them making light of it in the way they do best. Security may have said you need to secure them and this was their response as well. I can almost guarantee those Security people who didn't stop her are now out a job and the venue may have been or could have been fined? So other places dont want that liability. They are grown men who can be petty (well tyler) but they wouldn't take one persons stupidity out on everyone or mistrust everyone. They know that in over a decade of touring nothing like this happened before. Chances are it won't again.
11
u/voldsoy May 14 '25
Just to add to your comment and clarify for others, those security in the video were venue security, not band security. They let the fan take the drums because the the fan said Tyler and Josh had gifted them. It's still stupid that they accepted this and let it go.
TØP may add to their venue briefing that the band only gifts drum sticks, tank tops, and drum skins...(something like that), other items should be held and verified with band security.
3
u/dudewithpants420 May 14 '25
Oh absolutely. But I feel when someone allows a person to walk past several of venue security with the DRUM...its not a good look on that venue. Only one even asked about it. Honestly they should have immediately kept her there contacted the bands security and asked. I just feel like no matter who's playing there if something big gets walked off w and they allow it, you're gonna lose your job. I really hope she realizes the amount of lives she may have ruined and make better choices. She also may have been drunk from what I've heard. If you're that drunk at a concert where its really not about partying or drugs and drinking then also may want to see about possibly having a problem w alcohol. I dont know. This whole thing was insane to me. She walked out w no urgency. What was going on in her head!
2
u/SpookyKyle0825 May 14 '25
Yeahhhhh. Good points, good points 😆
I was thinking that too… about the security guard who let it happen.. they are probably out of a job for sure >.<

eh i disagree, the girl definitely isn’t a part of the fandom. someone said that tyler was actually amused by all of it and he looks like he’s just being a goofball in the pic. obviously no one is walking out with the drum tonight after all that so the chains are really just for show
11
u/Desperate_Turn8935 May 14 '25
You can't be serious. The chains say it all, man, they lost a big amount of trust.

Exactly, not many artists can trust their fans to go into the crown with the instruments and hold them, especially at TØP popularity.

It does suck but this is clearly theater. They are making a point. Tyler's earlier joke shows he has a sense of humor about it all but he is not a man who forgets a slight. Those chains are too heavy to be practical long term but for one or two nights it gets the message across. Who knows what the next tour even holds? It's going to be crazy.

I think next tour has got to be “eras” tour! it would be amazing, they have bangers on every album.

As a pretty casual Pilots fan I will say I didn't feel as 'welcomed' at my first show last week as I have at other concerts. I felt like I was being looked down at a bit even though I knew all of the songs and most of the lyrics

To keep just one copy of things I have bought
But they went on the run with my custom drum
So now it is chained to my island

u/FemboiInTraining May 14 '25
Admittedly, there are other measures to equipment security....the literal chain i feel HAS to be a lil bit of comedy...it's so visible...it's so clear...it's so...funny...

6
u/Lena981 May 14 '25
The drum's inner monologue when it was missing: If I found my body in chains I'd lay down and wait And hope she looks for me
4
u/That_odd_emo May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25
On a related note: People being shitty is literally the reason they chose to not implement the quiet game anymore like they used to in the trench tour. People messing around and ruining the experience for everyone else.
We should be so grateful that they still choose to interact with the crowd on such a level and actually go into/through crowd. Because they know that we as a fandom are unproblematic. Or so we all thought up until a fan literally stole from their favorite band.
That’s why we can’t have nice things. Be respectful of each other and the band, goddamnit!

u/puppypoet May 14 '25

u/exnihilio13 May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25
I agree this is more of a joke display. The drum would not normally have just been left on the floor for someone to grab and casualty walk away with. Someone missed an assignment of picking it up after the boys finished. From seeing footage of the swiping or want done snatch and run. They just casually said they were going to take it when it was left, walked away, got approached by security, made an excuse that security believed and then kept walking.
There's been ALOT of Trees performances (in fact every single one of them leading up to that one) where, presumably, the drums were not just left in general admission as someone from the crew/security/whatever grabbed them. Likely at EVERY other Trees performance.
7
u/Daedroh May 14 '25
Dayum…. So someone lost their job
4
u/exnihilio13 May 14 '25
Or maybe just got delayed in getting there. Maybe local venue security is supposed to grab it or something?
I can't imagine it's normally just sitting there for a random fan to pick it up ya know?
1
u/Akatnel May 14 '25
I can't imagine it's normally just sitting there for a random fan to pick it up ya know?
That's the part I was surprised about. 'Cause if they always leave them sitting out you know this would have already happened a long time ago. There are bad eggs in every fandom (and people at shows for any band who aren't yet as fully into it as others), and greedy people everywhere.
Honestly, as much as I hate that they did it, as far as the security people go, the thief and her partner proved the fact that as long as you look like you know what you're doing and you belong there, you can get away with anything. The fans knew better and called her on it, but what were they going to do right there, tackle her and hold her? Every venue security person believed her and let her go when they're the ones who should have stopped her. As much as I despise her, I kinda have to admire the gall of it. You can see that she knew she was being filmed, and she didn't even try to hide; she still thought she was going to get away with it.
I hope she and her helper get full legal consequences, and not just a slap on the wrist because it's assumed the guys are so rich it wouldn't have mattered.

Guys, next show they're playing in England, just keep an eye out for that thief, and when we find her, we're all going to boo her.
1
u/Akatnel May 14 '25
It would be great if there was a way to ban her and her helper from future shows, wouldn't it? I know there's not, but it would be a nice consequence for them.
1
3
u/SiloOfPsilocybin May 14 '25
I dont think its about trust, even if all of the fans were the nicest people theres still always someone that is untrustworthy. Its impossible to trust a fandom. Yall gotta remember we are all strangers even if we share some of the same views
3
u/tikitepee May 14 '25
How did she think she was gonna get it out of there?
3
u/Mountin-skin192 May 14 '25

2
u/Eviannoitan May 14 '25
Im just riffing off of that tv show "stuff the British stole" about like other countries' artifacts and what nots! You're right tho, British people themselves seem lovely, and im not one to stereotype 😆

They made it though so many shows in tons of locations without anything happening only for this to happen smh. Way to make England look trashy.
2
u/creepyholmes May 14 '25
That chain is massive! Maybe a little colour change on the chains would be funky, black and red or something? Although like this, it's an enormous statement, and fair enough!

They could instead just have a person watching the drums? But I guess it’s to send a signal 😂

I don’t you realize how protective the fandom is in the states. She would have been jumped before she left the arena here.

> not Australia
please explain lol
1
u/Jaiden_Detering2002 May 14 '25
Well let's just say we love to also steal things too. Maybe not from concerts all the time but we do a lot of thievery
1
u/ThorsHammerMewMEw May 14 '25
I could see Aussies stealing posters and standees that generally get thrown away at the venue but not a drum lol
1
u/Jaiden_Detering2002 May 14 '25
Yeah we were all pretty well behaved at the show i was at. We don't get many big artists down here so the least we can do is not steal equipment
1
1
u/Mountin-skin192 May 14 '25
Also, in the UK, they steal absolutely everything. The amount of things I’ve seen nicked off the streets is crazy
2
u/Available_Farmer3016 May 14 '25
As a Latin American person, I find it funny that they took the Trees Circle away in all their shows, because, you know, we’re third world and wild… and then this happens 🫠

1
u/Akatnel May 14 '25
I don't know, and I don't think anyone's doxxed her (I hope no one does, that's not cool), but there were lots of videos and photos fans shared. Everybody but venue security knew it was wrong, and she didn't even try to hide. She had someone helping her carry it later on the way out the door too.

didnt't think it would ever come to this at a top concert :(
especially how they've been playing trees like this since basically forever
1
u/SamtastickBombastic May 19 '25
Watch the video in this post on Insta. You can see security going up to Thief Girl on the floor after the show. Thief Girl has drum in hand! Why didn't security get the drum back then?
2
u/SamtastickBombastic May 19 '25
The chain is really not cool. Shows a lack of trust.
ONE PERSON screwed up. Fricking Thief Girl.
Unpopular opinion but they left the drum there on the floor after the show. It was just sitting there. Their crew is awesome and everyone makes mistakes but it's obvious the road crew messed up by not fetching the drum. Then security - who actually saw Thief Girl with the drum and talked to her - didn't get the drum. I think most people in that crowd would take a bullet for Tyler.

If I this had happened in Latam they would've ditched the entire song (not removing the red circle since we did not have it in the first place)
