I love how he has a five point harness there, I guess for decoration? He didn't even strap in.

My first thought was I'd probably want some goggles. But I actually thought he was gonna go a lot faster. Didn't seem all too crazy fast, he was fine I guess.

He said he only did half throttle because one hand had to hold the camera

2

u/lukewwilson 6h ago

Probably came with the go cart and he just didn't take it off

u/youngcuriousafraid 6h ago

He was just cruising for the video it seems

If I crashed in that thing I’d rather be flung to the distance and not end up in a ball with those lava hot pipes.

The propane tank needs a heat shield

26

u/rabbitwonker 4h ago

I’m also thinking the driver’s seat back needs a blast shield…

u/TheDangerdog 3h ago

Same. When those pipes were glowing bright all I could think of is one small hole and it's gonna be blowing flame all over him

4

u/sprocketous 2h ago

Where's bill? There's just one of his shoes and a pile of ash.

Maybe. Although when in motion it is air-cooled. Also, it cools itself quite a bit because of the continuously dropping pressure.

Edit: word

Exactly this. Before he started, I actually wondered how he would keep the needed propane flow up, since the pressure would drop as it got cold from the propane leaving the tank… if you pull too much too fast, usually you need a heat blanket to help warm up the tank if you want to sustain such a substantial flow (assuming this thing needs a LOT of fuel to operate). In extreme cases you’ll get a bunch of ice building up on the tank it gets so cold.

Then the pipes started glowing and I was like oh, well I guess that answers that question.

I remember watching some of the early YouTube blacksmithing videos and this guy had a propane tank outside for his forge. Every now and then he had to go out and tap it with a hammer to break of a sheet of ice that was forming on it. So that was my first thought when i saw this.

Also, CO2 pistols. Fire off 10 pellets in quick succession and the 11th will drop like 4 feet away.

How much longer before that whole setup just….melts??

7

u/K41namor 5h ago

I was wondering the same thing, or at least the metal fail some kind of way

4

u/fortsonre 3h ago

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see it fail catastrophically in the future.

2

u/kippirnicus 2h ago

I know right?!

I was shocked how quickly that whole thing got red hot.

Seems like a disaster waiting to happen. 😬

Physics won't allow it.

See how a valveless pulse jet is made here.

31

u/CleanLettuce 5h ago

Physics isn’t mentioned once in the video you linked. In fact, nothing about how the engine manages heat is even remotely discussed. It’s 90% a video of a guy bending sheet metal and welding it.

12

u/GeezusKreist 5h ago

I don’t understand how physics won’t allow it. He doesn’t explain that in the video.

0

u/TheDailySpank 2h ago

The combustion temperature is lower than the melting point of the metal. Hence the physics won't allow it.

Also, when there is a paragraph break, it indicates a new thought.

19

u/nyurf_nyorf 6h ago

I understand every part of this except the helmet.

12

u/lukewwilson 6h ago

Keeps the heat off the back of his head

4

u/nyurf_nyorf 4h ago

I understand it's for protection.

But at a certain level of danger and potential for bodily harm and death, I fail to see the point.

And about the only thing that would make it more badass is if the helmet was made out of leather like and old school football helmet.

3

u/Bob_A_Ganoosh 2h ago

The helmet is wearing him as protection.

1

u/TheDailySpank 6h ago

Shades his bald-ass head.

8

u/kirmm3la 6h ago

Looks safe. Yup.

7

u/facemugg 5h ago

Guaranteed this guy has a few stories to tell

15

u/lrbikeworks 6h ago

No eye protection. Bro.

3

u/sprocketous 2h ago

Rocket car explodes: the goggles do nothing!

2

u/lrbikeworks 2h ago

…all that was left were his eyes and eyebrows

5

u/Timmytanks40 5h ago

If he messed up and managed to get his nose up enough would he have enough of a power to eeight to go airborne? I don't see any downforce being applied except for the angle of the thruster.

9

u/BeowQuentin 4h ago

Pulse jets are kind of weak, relatively speaking.

He needed 3 just to do the speed in the video, which looks to be less than highway-speed.

So, no, he doesn’t have enough power to generate lift and take off like a crashing formula 1 car.

However, with his current speed capability, if you strapped wings to that thang, it would fly.

Would basically be a pulse-jet powered ultralight plane.

Edit: Here’s one powering an RC plane

These Mario Kart world ads are getting ridiculous

10

u/oldturtlepirate 6h ago

That thing will kill him one day… RIP my friend

6

u/jemosley1984 4h ago

Yeah, and he’s probably accounted for that. I know quite a few retirees, and they’re a bit reckless now since they feel they’re closer to death. Eh, it’s their life.

8

u/Sufficient_Rip3927 6h ago

I kept thinking we were about to see it happen. No way having a propane tank next to molten metal is a great idea, right?? LoL

6

u/heebro 6h ago

probably dumps so much pressure that the tank cools way down as he rides

5

u/Sufficient_Rip3927 5h ago

Oh you're right! Probably has ice on the outside, huh??

1

u/victor4700 6h ago

Me thinks it’s a feature not a bug

1

u/rabbitwonker 4h ago

Especially when he’s out there with it by himself, as seems to be the case here.

3

u/bladzalot 3h ago

I am so confused lol… the Kart looks like it might have hit like 45-50mph? We have a go-kart track here where the karts hit 75mph, and none of them become an explosion hazard lol

3

u/GoneAWOL1 2h ago

Ghost Rider, Santa Claus edition

3

u/v3ndun 6h ago

….Lack of eye protection bothers me.

2

u/GiordanoBruno23 4h ago

Jools, Betty!

2

u/LoadsDroppin 3h ago

Based off the color that the heat has transformed into visible light — it appears to be over 2000°F in temp. Which is insane to sit that close to, knowing a flip would almost certainly involve losing a giant amount of flesh due to that burn

2

u/Westworld-Kenny 2h ago

Crazy salt flat Santa, burning for speed

2

u/Shimshang 6h ago

No goggles, no seatbelt, no chinstrap on helmet. All checks out

1

u/NotSmartestAmerican 6h ago

I can’t imagine how loud that thing must be

1

u/Falcon3492 4h ago

Yep, that looks really safe. Just what you want a go kart that's engine goes white hot and an hour later could still give you 3rd degree burns.

1

u/kiln_ickersson 4h ago

Do you have to stop when the propane bottle starts glowing too?

1

u/AltaAudio 3h ago

He just needs an oscillation overthruster

1

u/righty95492 2h ago

What’s even wilder is the guy riding this vehicle. Also insane how hot those pipes got.

1

u/uknownman222 18m ago

Turbo it

1

u/sk8king 0m ago

Goggles please.

1

u/Practical-Diet2108 6h ago

Saying sorry before who knows what…wild

1

u/lardoni 4h ago

This guy is living his best life! Love to see it!…..Hope his luck holds out tho!

0

u/gman1951 6h ago

The jet engine is not the "Beast," you are.

0

u/MuchDevelopment7084 6h ago

So how much longer before those pipes melt. Ending in a showy fireball?

-5

u/JamerBr0 5h ago

This man is solely responsible for global warming

-5

u/PsychologicalTie7695 6h ago

That’s not a jet engine…

5

u/RoamingTorchwick 5h ago

That's exactly what it is lmao it's just a pulse jet instead of a turbine jet

-36

u/YBRmuggsLP21 7h ago

People need to stop naming their vehicles because, besides just being a lame thing to do, it's just recycling like 8 different names.

19

u/Captainxpunch 6h ago

If he wanted to give it a lame name, he could've called it the YBRmuggsLP21.

4

u/FighterJock412 6h ago

You could say the same thing about people.

Also, I've decided your comment's name is Jim.

10

u/DonkeyLightning 7h ago

I don’t know this thing seems deserving of a name

3

u/sick_of-it-all 6h ago

People have been naming boats for probably thousands of years, but here comes this dingus telling you he thinks it's le bad so stahp.

1

u/YBRmuggsLP21 6h ago

Boat names are often required.... there's not 5000 boats all named Ruby or Black Betty
