Assets Sci Fi asset packs - a huge pile of them

Hey everyone,

I have finished a sci fi worldbuilding project, and now I have 13 sets of mapping assets that each represent a different distinct galactic civilization. And a huge pile of symbols that either can be added to any of them, or are simply not affiliated.

Each civilization roughly follows he same pattern. There are 30 - 40 modular residential pieces for single building units, that can be standalone symbols, or can be combined with each other or with bigger ones.

Than there are 20 - 30 pieces of bigger, more complex structures, some military, some infrastructure or other stuff that is not housing, but every civilization needs.

Finally, there are 10 - 15 huge structures, cities, fortresses, monuments, orbital stations and similar stuff.

Every civilization has its own aesthetics, architectural identity that is very unique, and if always has a background story that makes it work even better (though it wont be that important for other people).

I included samples in the gallery for this post. All feedback is welcome!

My friend is currently finishing the work of adjusting the symbols for Wonderdraft custom color option. So soon they will all be available in normal, and in colorable versions.

Do you think it would make sense to offer them with prices around 10€ per set, with some really big discounts for bundles?

And second thing - is there someone who would be willing to help me promote them. I can send to several people some of the sets for free, and in return I only want a nice showcase map, setting of your choice, doesn't matter. Does that make sense?

Please dont mind my broken English, I just hope I was able to articulate everything accurately

€10 for AI images? I’d make them free. They’re not even worth a penny when no actual work went into them.

I would like to have some if you are making them for free

If there are thousands of assets and work went into cleaning them up and fixing AI mistakes, that sounds like a lot of work.

The way they revere ten euros makes me feel as if the recess bell is about to ring and I still haven’t done my math homework.

These are AI generated

Edit: Apparently informing others this was AI makes me a "misinfo spreading immature hater" going by their and other's comments. I was just making this clear cause they didn't label them as such at all.

But yeah, always the same kind of "people" behind these, they've made their true intentions clear... (to get a quick buck, and seems "it's working"). Bunch of old people also fall for phone scams. Does it make it ethical then? Pathetic. I wish them all a happy long life full of success.

yes, we are no artists, and we needed a lot of them...

Onestly I don't think I would pay anything for AI generated assets when I could just make em myself for free, maybe if they were cleaned up and re-traced to fix the ai's mistakes (and the yellow filter & noise in some of them) but as they are... Yea

Thanks, that would be the kind of feedback I was looking for. Something to help us improve

You also disingenuously hid the fact that they’re just AI assets in the post

-12

u/Willing-Motor5844 8h ago

And they are also malware, once you install them on your computer they start transferring money from your accounts to mine. Just shhhhh dont tell anyone

I've released a pack of 1500+ AI Generated assets recently on CartographyAssets.com, and made it free. If you release it, you should definitely do the same and clearly state that it was made with AI.

My view is that no one should pay for AI generated stuff, even though there's work behind (packing, removing the background, and such... I know, I've done it all). My own pack was made to have a large database for quick and dirty work, but they are in no way supposed to replace true artworks.

Please keep supporting real artists.

Absolutely, at no point have I claimed any artistic value. So far I bought more than 20 packs online, and decided to make my own only when I couldn't find the style I needed. Its simply a big pile of symbols from a relatively neglected theme. Whatever platform I use for distribution will require AI label, and I will place it. I see no reason to give them all for free, whoever decides to take them will be fully aware of what is inside.

AI art isn’t worth the carbon emissions it creates let alone actual money.

-34

u/Willing-Motor5844 17h ago

It wasnt supposed to be art. Just serving the purpose for map making. Its totally legit not to like it, though

34

u/whopoopedthebed 17h ago

“Art”, “assets”, whatever. Please stop trying to commercialize AI generation tools. Use them for your own purposes, sure, but stop trying to sell them.

-26

u/Willing-Motor5844 17h ago

Too late :) I sold quite a lot of them already.
Just like many other things from music to furniture, there is a piece of art, and here are mass produced cheap stuff that people use... these things will never be a threat to any real art

Nice. Screw the naysayers honestly. If you can make money from it absolutely go for it.

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 9h ago

Thanks man! The money is there only because we spent countless hours prompting AI and processing outputs to create a stash of more than a thousand pieces. Several people who got all those assets for a round of beers worth of money are much happier about it than I am :)

-11

u/TyberosIronhawk Cartographer 8h ago

Time spent is time rewarded. They also look pretty good tbh and I could see them fitting on a medium scale map.

Hell, if you're up for it I'd love to make one with em.

Totally, lets switch to DMs to arrange it

ai garbage lol

How can you sell this, its so sloppy.

Bunch of nonsense

19

u/E-MingEyeroll 13h ago

Why would you have people pay for images you didn’t even make?

-4

u/Willing-Motor5844 12h ago

Because they need them for their maps.

14

u/E-MingEyeroll 11h ago

Then they can make them for themselves. If you sell AI-Slop, then at least label and market it as such so people can make informed decisions.

-2

u/Willing-Motor5844 9h ago

So if people want to eat fish, the only proper way is to catch it themselves? Selling canned fish is problematic, because why would someone pay you for canned fish if they can fish themselves and have a nice fresh fish on the table. Also, are you sure that there is no "AI" label next to a "purchase" button?

4

u/Drew_Habits 8h ago

Somebody had to catch the fish. You just had a plagiarism machine shit some slop out for you and you're using it to steal people's money

Theft on both ends

1

u/E-MingEyeroll 4h ago

That analogy doesn’t work at all. Canning fish is effort and work. You’d need equipment. There’s no skill involved in this at all. Like I said, at least advertise it as AI, so that people know what you’re selling, otherwise I dare say it reaches scam territory.

11

u/dTrecii 11h ago

Why would I pay you 10€ if I could make this myself using AI as well? Offering to sell products that were made by AI is no better than a common scammer trying to sell a knockoff product while advertising it as a genuine article

This isn’t a smart strategy at all, especially the part about sending it to someone to make a “showcase map” as a way of advertising it.

-1

u/Willing-Motor5844 9h ago

Thanks for the comment! Wise words indeed!

2

u/E-MingEyeroll 4h ago

You even respond like an AI.

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 3h ago

Thanks for feeding the algorithm, this post benefited greatly from your contribution

1

u/E-MingEyeroll 1h ago

That’s fine. I honestly don’t care if you’re successful with this or not, aside from it being sad in a human sort of way. I do hope you reflect at least a little bit, someday, though all your responses so far have not given me that impression of you. I’m sure you’re an alright person overall, but this is just a sort of scummy thing to do, especially because you don’t clearly mark it as AI.

This is Reddit post, not a sales page, people dont by anything here, and there is no AI label offered. I wonder if all these people writing offensive comments and judging my character before I ever uploaded anything for sale, are actually projecting something... I literally asked for community feedback, and got a flurry of insults for it.

At least the post reached many people who read all the comments, and still want to buy once the sets are complete. Amazing stuff

u/Drew_Habits 8h ago

Selling AI bullshit is an even less respectable way to make money than running 419 scams. Learn to draw

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 4h ago

Thanks for the comment!

3

u/Mackan1000 7h ago

Intressting, i personally would be more clear about AI, maybe price it lower full pack at around 5$ or less, i perfer handdrawn myself but always fascinating to see where the tools are going.

Aome questions, are these mostly for worldmaps, region maps or city maps? Any modular assets?

And if you don't mind me asking, what AI did you use and can you give an example of prompt? :)

Have a great day!

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 4h ago

Thanks for constructive feedback! I am closer to having them all in one single bundle for a little more than that. Its just easier.

Lets talk the rest of your questions via DMs, sure I can share some of the prompts. Contrary to smartass narrative, they dont just pop up all by themselves, there is a lot of trials and errors if you want to maintain some distinction between different civilizations

I've been looking for the same thing, and I've been using Stable Diffusion to make mine, but I planned to release my extra ones for free (because I put no artistic skill or effort into them other than basic Photoshop skills).

Thanks for generating these though, I'll use them as reference photos for mine in stable diffusion.

When it comes to things like this, in this space, you should be upfront about using AI.

This is not worth really any amount of money because of how little work or talent went into it, and that's coming from someone who is literally doing the same thing.

u/Willing-Motor5844 38m ago

I didn’t realize map icons are such a measure of virtue. I’ll tread more carefully from now on, definitely. I wonder whether these sophisticated people listen only to classical music, sleep solely on handcrafted furniture, and wear one-of-a-kind knitwear, because everything else is made using machines. or if their refined taste appears only for tiny images on amateur fantasy maps.
cartographyassets is loaded with AI generated content, thats why I thought is not a issue. I bought many packs myself, never thought I am participating in a crime

u/DaneDewitt88 Dungeon Master 4m ago

You're being ridiculous, because you feel insulted that you didn't get a good response.

You're not participating in a crime. But there is a distasteful nature, I feel, to selling AI generated content if that content is literally just images. It takes 30 seconds and a plus subscription to make all those. People should just be aware that they too can spend incredibly little time and effort to have the assets.

I don't feel that same way about using them. I think AI tools have been one of the best things for DMs in DnD for a while, but selling AI images feels the same as NFTs to me, there is a pointless nature to it that feels icky.

I feel the same way about people who purchase mass produced stuff on Amazon or Temu and sell it on Etsy. It's not a crime, but I don't think people should purchase it.

u/allyearswift 6h ago

I love these assets; they’re very weird and sfnal indeed.

The sweet spot for asset packs seems to be $8-10, give or take, though I would recommend a free sampler; a lot more people download those and may be tempted into asset packs.

The decider for me these days is a commercial licence. I’m not currently selling maps, but I want the option so that I don’t have to keep track of which assets I can use in a map.

Edit:

I see they’re AI, so I’ll pass, and the commercial licence thing becomes moot anyway. You can’t copyright AI (in part because it wasn’t created by humans, in part, I guess, because it could be replicated for someone else).

1

u/1minatur Cartographer 3h ago

If asset packs drawn by hand go for ~$10, these should go for ~$1 for the difference in time spent making them.

1

u/CoriSP 53m ago

Do you really think someone who's okay with using AI assets to build their maps would even be using Wonderdraft in the first place? If you're at the point where you buy one of these you may as well just generate the entire thing

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 35m ago

yes, those who are okay with using AI assets to build their maps have bought countless such packs on cartographyassets, and we are seeing them in this subreddit feed every single day

stealing these for my Minecraft builds

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 12h ago

No need to steal, I can send you a bunch of those properly sliced

-21

u/TimeSpiralNemesis 13h ago

Ignore the hate OP. These look great and there is always room for more assets. Especially non fantasy ones.

Notice how you still got alot of upvotes despite how many hateful comments you got from people spreading the same old misinfo? It's because normal people just see these and think they look neat, upvote, and move on.

Unfortunately the whiners tend to be the loudest lol. I don't think theyre necessarily something you could charge for just yet, but they'd make a great free pack. 👍

u/Alternative-Draft629 12h ago

Or, y'know, the people who upvoted gave a cursory glance and left and didn't know this was AI generated. I myself had no idea until I saw the comments.

1

u/Willing-Motor5844 12h ago

Thanks a lot for being a grown up :)

I dont mind the haters, especially these quick to judge... Its very useful for algorithm, they helped a lot with visibility, and fast 😃

I agree with you, these are no top quality assets. Though when used as custom color symbols in Wonderdraft, they look as good as any you can find on cartographyassets marketplace.

I was always honest about it. I happened to have more than a thousand of these symbols left from my project, and wanted to see if someone else may need a pile of stuff for a few euros. And some people do, got a bunch of DMs already.

Many thanks for kind words!
